Disneyland Florida

OH & I have been discussing holidays & he wants to take kids to Disneyland Florida in 2015 therefore not doing anything next year. I'd love to but its so much money which I don't necessarily mind but I want to make sure we pick the right hotel/villa etc. So Im looking for any tips & hints as to how to make the most of it should we decide to start saving & commit to going. Wld we be better to stay in the resort its self or outwith? Not to keen on driving over there mind u!! Id appreciate ur thoughts & comments on the matter to help us choose.
Thanks

I haven't been for over 10 years but I wouldn't recommend staying on the Disney resorts, I'm sure they are fab but very expensive! Best option would be to hire a nice villa nearby and you can do your shopping at local shops. The parks are expensive but so worth it, the kids will love it.

I know you said you wouldn't like to drive but I would say really you need to over there to get about.

This topic has come up a few times, there are some threads in the holiday section you may wish to check out.

If you can't find them let me know, we've been quite a few times & book everything ourselves, flights, accommodation, car, park ticket.

I also have a spreadsheet I use for planning the hols, so I know how much we need to save, pm me with your email address & I'll email you a copy.

Archer1984 when u say nearby wld that be International Drive or where wld u recommend? Obv I need to do my research to make sure we have the best possible experience but just looking for some starter points. Many thanks x

I'd agree with Archer1984 you do really need to drive to get the best out of the holiday, many of the hotels/villas will offer free transportation to the parks but you're then tied to their times. Driving is so easy in Florida, they are so accommodating.

Wherever you stay you're not going to be near to the parks as they are spread around Orlando, but you can stay near to them all, if that makes sense.

Thanks Yikes I just have visions of about 6 lanes of traffic nose to tail lol No kids this afternoon so going to look Internet and price it based on 2014 to get an idea etc

After a quick look ystdy going by June 2014 prices - villa £1200 and flights £2500 plus Disneyland tickets, car hire and spending money. Better get saving ;)
Ive ordered a book from Amazon 'Brit Guide Orlando 2014'. I think Im actually going to enjoy planning this trip. Keeps me busy & focused so that has to be a good thing lol

Oh we've used the Brit Guide, it is a good guide book, I did send you an email last night with bits on.;)

I've just realised you asked when the best time to go was, we've been in May when they are just coming out of the dry season & October when they are just coming out of the wet season, but times it's been really nice & warm October was hotter I'd say. We used to work it round half term & take the kids out of school for a week. One year we had to go July as the kids were going to Uni & college, but I won't go again, it's the rainy season & the second week (which was at the beach) we had a few days indoors playing games. And it does really rain.

Yes thanks for the email. We will be going at the end of June for 2 weeks. May look at taking them out for a week so we can go slightly earlier.

Hi, I am off to Florida for the 5th time next November, can't wait.

I am new to this forum so not sure if it is okay to mention another forum and apologies if not but if I am then you should try googling 'the DIBB' they have some amazing tips and they are a very friendly bunch. :)

Yes I discovered DIBB the other day & found it very informative.

The more I read the more confused I get Which Disney Hotels offer free transportation ? Am I right in saying there is no direct transport between parks, u need to go park to hotel, hotel to park? Bearing this in mind which hotels are offer the best transportation links?

Some say 'continuous transportation' & some say 'unlimited use of Disneys free transportation throughout Walt Disney Resort'. I know it sounds daft but really not keen on hiring a car. Looking at Disneys Animal Kingdom or Disneys Art of Animation but all will depend on 2015 prices.

Honestly driving is so easy & the other drivers are so accommodating, there is no road rage at all. If you remember, you, the driver, must be in the middle of the road, it's easier to drive, well that's what I find & there are hardly any roundabouts. In fact I can't think of any roundabouts in Florida & you can turn right on a red if it's safe to do so. life will be easier with a car.
