How often do you drop a dress size?

I know the rule is roughly a size per stone but I wondered how accurate that is for most people? How much did you have to lose to drop each size?

I've found I've dropped 3 in nearly 4 stone. First one always seems to take a bit longer! I've got a night out next month and want to buy a pretty new outfit for it. Reckon I can drop a stone by then, hoping it'll mean dropping a size too but tying not to get my hopes up!!

I found it was more than a stone when I started losing weight. The weight gap between sizes 20, 18 and 16 was more than a stone for me. After that it came down to a stone a size.

Fingers crossed for the next size down for your night out! :)

I would be interested to know this too... I'm 23lbs down in the first 4 weeks, and all I know is that the jeans that were tight at Christmas are now literally falling down as i walk around...(Could be embarrassing!) but I'm too scared to try the next size down incase they don't fit and it just demotivates me...

I was a size 18/20 at 15st 9, I'm comfortable in size 16s at moment, I weighed in at 13 12lb this a.m but think it'll take another stone or more to get into 14s... So different for everyone

It is so different for everyone. It took me about 1.5 stone to drop from a size 20 to an 18, another 1.5 stone to drop to a 16, but already I can feel that some of my 16's are getting too big, but not enough to be a standard 14 in the high street.

I really do think everyone is individual. I've not really lost that much over January as some of it was Christmas gain, in terms of weight, but I've really shrunk in size. Before Christmas I was snug into a 16 as long as it had a bit of stretch at 3 stone off. I've only dropped another 9lb since then and any smaller 18's I was still wearing now look like I'm in someone elses clothes, I'm in size 16 jeans (from new look no less, so they ain't generous) that fit my legs but are too big on the waist, and have got a couple of 14 dresses and shrugs for Marrakech in 2 weeks that fit now. I got a couple of size 12 end of season bargains for my hols in June, and although they are snug, I can get them on.

So, Ithink it really does vary - I'm defo a 14/16 and I'm still obese!!

In july i was 22.7 a size 24/22.

Im now 19.12 and still a size 24/22.

This could be because i wear comfy clothes that stretch with me. All my clothes are cut so differently i cant gauge sizes at all.

I was an 18-16 at 14.10 bit of a muffin top in a 16

I have lost 16lbs down to 13.8 and I no longer have a muffin top over the top

When I was 12 I was a perfect 14.

I dropped 1 in 23lbs I was a 14 (creeping into 16s) and now I can get in most 12s and very big 10s!

Ha this all has frustrated me a bit :/

I live in leggings and tops that i customise myself (I live in band top and normal shirts look frumpy on me cause I have ridiculous boobs) so I have noooo idea what size I am.
But yesterday I have two pairs of denim shorts I bought from asda summer just gone ... I didn't care about the sizes tbh just knew they were big and cheap. One is a size 22 and the other is a size 24 ... The size 24 has ALWAYS been big on me like could fit my arm down the side of them ... The 22 fit me but pinched a bit :/
Now I've tried both on ... The 24 are even bigger on me and the 22 won't do up unless I lay down but even then don't zip up haha :/
I can't gage my size at all from my weight loss ...

Does anyone have a list of inches and stuff for clothing sizes ?
I have looked this up but I saw a bunch of different lists one saying my measurements meant I should be a size 28 :/ which I'm defo not haha :s

Hah don't mean to like take this over ... Just thought someone may be able to help haha :)

It's funny how different people are isn't it? I find it really interesting. I know I don't really fit the 'a stone a dress size' category, takes a little more for me. There are bigger gaps between the bigger sizes though. To go from a 22 to a 20 you might need to lost 3-3.5 inches but for a 14 to 12 it'll only be 1.5-2. That's why it's harder to find well fitted clothes when you're bigger.

Sugar_face sizes depend completely on the store. A 22 in Asda will be complete different to a 22 in New Look or Evans or anywhere else. Wish everyone would just standardise sizes!! If you google the store you mostly buy from with size guide (e.g. asda size guide) it'll tell you different measurements for different sizes. Doesn't always quite work out though, I know I've measured at home and then had to buy a size bigger than what the size guide says. So I usually add an extra inch to what they say just for comfort!

Definatly agree caz. And even in the same shop the sizes can vary. Its madness.

I did a retail management module at uni so can explain that one! Basically, a high end retailer such as Gucci have very high standards. They'll have their measurements for each size and their manufacturer has to check against them. They have a very small margin of error, only a few mm bigger/smaller so sizes vary by no more than half a cm otherwise they're rejected. Lower end places like Primark and even places like Next have much bigger margin of errors. So they'll accept clothes that could be a cm bigger or smaller than their measurements, meaning thy can vary up to nearly an inch!

M&S isn't the best one to use! They try to flatter people to get extra custom!! A 16 in M&S is more like an 18 anywhere else!

Ok.... For example, take a size 22.

M&S hips 50in
Asda hips 46.5in
Evans hips 49in

It's not just M&S that do it to be fair. Think they've got better than they used to be.
