    Chins, skin & wobbly things!

As Dday approaches - I can't help but revert back to the same topic in my head!

    I plan on losing 4 - 6 stone.

With this will obviously come lose skin, less fat in the old chins and the rest!!

Does anyone else worry about this or have a prevention or even a cure in mind??

I will of course be exercising whilst following s&s. Mainly toning rather than hiit!!

Read this earlier on the WeMITTs forum on here - kind of put it into perspective for me

The thing is, you MIGHT end up with saggy bits - and you might not. The way I look at it is you've got the skin already - the only choice you have is how full of fat to have it. Start worrying about it when you've got something to worry about - you can always put some weight back on! I feel more comfortable at 7lbs or so above my goal weight, as my arms look better - but then I am 60. For you youngsters, I'm sure things spring back easier. Don't stress about it, any saggy skin I have is MUCH preferable to being nearly 22stone!!!
    Ann x

    and this...

    I agree with Ann.
I didn't give loose skin much thought to be honest...I just wantedto loose weight.also after 4 children & nearly 50 yrs the wrapping is looking a bit worn, BUT now i'm 5stone down (well nearly) & some bits are saggy,(though not all) all I can say is I'd sooner be droopy than flabby.

likwise I'd rather be Fit than fat, energetic than tired, enjoying life rather than observing it.

Plus my cdc says her skin is still improving 3yrs after getting to goal.
& clothes can hide skin they can't hide bulk.

Loose skin worries me, I was joking earlier this month to a friend that I might finally have the legs to wear a short skirt on holiday, but it was likely my flat stomach would be poking out of the bottom of it! It does shrink though, and I think that's why the measurements are important, cause as you change you soon get used to seeing the new you and it doesn't look like you are getting smaller. You will probably look a bit saggy for a short while, I did particularly in my face, but it soon catches up with your weight loss, and before too long you look entirely different. I've now reached the point where I'm starting to think about a final goal, and what size that might be, so I'm now looking at a toning plan - not really done anything much up to now though

    Certainly is 'food for thought'

I didn't find my skin was too bad when I lost quite a substantial amount on cd, but that was 3 ish years ago and with only one baby.

Now 3 years on and a 2nd baby, I'm thinking things may not be a smooth this time round.

I know 100% that I will have surgery once I have successfully lost the weight I need to. There's no doubt about that. But it would be nice to combat a bit of it myself. Hence the gym ect.

Moisturising and massage can also help.

Well hydrated skin has more elasticity, it wont get rid of all loose skin but massage brings blood closer to the surface which stimulates better circulation which helps elastin levels in the skin. Elastin is what makes skin strechy.

Obviously the other option is surgery. But results arent always what you hope for.

It depends on whether you prefer a bit of loose skin or a scar.

I have lost 3.5 stone on s&s but am 5 stone lower than my highest weight a few years ago. I have noticed the insides at the top if my thighs feel looser to me so wonder if I will get saggy skin there and I think I can see stretch marks on my neck under my chin area. My kids and OH say my neck is ok but I do think it looks strange.

Still I would rather be skinnier with loose skin that fat with fat skin. I want to feel healthy Xbox confident and as long as I look good in my clothes I will just wait and see what my final 2.5 stone bring

I agree with most of what has been said. Would rather be healthy weight with some loose skin than over weight with stretched skin. Loose skin to me is like a road map of my life and how far I had come to achieve the weight loss and maintain it. After having 2 lots of major abdominal surgery plus 3 c sections in the past and hating the scars that have been left for me getting the skin removed surgically would not be an option. I know I am not going to have a wash board tummy but hey thats what spanx pants were invented for. I was watching a programme a couple of weeks ago where a woman had the body lift and it went wrong and she had to have it done again, putting her body through more trauma. I think by the time you have to show that you can maintain the weight loss before surgery would be considered simple toning exercises would help a lot along with moisturising the affected areas.

I've got that neck thing going on too, it does improve with daily moisturising, but I can still do a good Diedre impression! I've never, since being a teenager, been able (or wanted to) wear anything shorter than on my knee, I've always had a pad of fat sitting just above it on my inner thighs that looks hideous - it's gone! I've got very fat legs proportionally - really struggled in the past to get trousers that fit as my thighs were about 4 sizes bigger than my waist - I've lost a lot more fat off them than elsewhere so I'm almost in the same size waist to thigh now - and, the loose skin here is going. I'm sure you can imagine I've got quite a bit here, and with gravity it looks pretty awful kind of hanging in wrinkles - but it is going. I've just got some hotpants and zaggora tightening cream (got to love ******* and coupon codes!) - they'll be here next week, and I will be delighted if they improve my legs enough to wear shorts - but, if they don't, then I'm more than happy with a skirt that sits above my knee, never thought I'd get to that stage.

As for my belly - I'm with you on that one DonJon. I've had several big gynae ops, last years laparoscopy left me with a bad infection leaving awful scars so I'm not planning getting that out anytime soon anyhow. And shrinking scar tissue is the bizzarest thing! I read somewhere that you can get nhs skin surgery if you get your bmi below 25 following gastric bypass surgery, wonder if it applies if you've done it yourself. I would consider a tummy tuck if I was left with an empty sack, but I'd be taking a while to consider it, and give it chance to shrink a bit more

I've been thinking about it too. I don't want to lose all this weight and still have to hide behind clothes because of all the loose and saggy skin!! I've got a holiday in August, I want to be able to wear a bathing suit and look nice in it my then. That's why I've decided to do a little exercise alongside S&S, nothing too strenuous, just 10-15 mins on my exercise/stability ball with hand weights 4-5 times a week. I think that as you're approaching goal and start to refeed, that's where exercise becomes really important. If you stick to a high protein diet combined with good exercise, strength/resistance training as well as cardio, then you'll see any loose skin start to shrink back as you tone up. Like noodles said, it just takes time, your skin catches up eventually! Moisturising helps too apparently but really it all just comes down to genetics. Some will get loose skin, some won't and you don't really know until you get there unfortunately!

Some NHS trusts do offer the skin reducing surgery if you can show that the excess skin is psychologically (sp) affecting your life but I think on the NHS you have to show that you can maintain this for a minimum of a couple of years before you would be considered. You read so much horror stories where things go tragically wrong and the desired outcome in not achieved I would be worried that I didnt come off the table or had post operation problems like I have done in the past. If you think about how long our bodies have taken to stretch to their current size (years) our bodies are not going reduce the excess stretching in a short space of time.

Does anyone else find on VLCD that it is always the face and neck to show the sagginess first before the thighs tums and bums.

Only place I've ever noticed it is a little on my thighs actually. I'm at my lowest adult weight now though so not sure what'll happen as I lose more.

I was really quite concerned at the start as my face just dropped and went all saggy, I really did consider if that was going to continue that I might think twice. But, within a couple of weeks it settled into it's new smaller size. I always thought I had great cheekbones - turns out it was fat! When I look at my fat pics, I've got massive big apples either side of my nose - gone now. It is a real shock to see the droop, but it does go - not enough for the incredibly short skirt I just got from Very - that's one going back for sure!!

I've always been worried about loose skin since starting this diet, I've even bought a ton of lotions and potions to rub in, and been trying a few "wraps" to help shrink the fat cells. I honestly can't tell if working as i know i would have lost inches on this diet anyway, but i do think it's helping!!

My biggest concern is my jelly belly! I put on several stone when i was pregnant, and had a c-section, so have a very wrinkly and saggy lower belly. I was hoping that it might get better, so will keep an eye on it over the next few months using the wraps!!

I think my thighs Will also be a problem, we shall see, would be great not to have them rubbing!! xxx

I suppose we will never truly know quite how we will feel or which approach we will take until we get there!!

It is a worry factor for me though.
I am still quite young at just 25, so although I Would love have the mentality that the fat has gone and if all that's left is saggy skin then so be it - I can't help but think that after all the hard work losing and keeping the weight off - I want to be as confident and comfortable as possible and think that lose saggy skin will just put me straight back to where I am now confidence and comfortability wise!!
