Trouble with takeaways

I need to get back on track with SW. I love the food that you can eat, but it's the syns - I can't work out how to fit in a takeaway without putting it all back on again.

I've done SW before, managed to lose some weight, but then had to go back to work and put the weight back on again! It's difficult getting to a meeting, especially as I have a disabled child who doesn't like hanging around and wants to keep moving. So I need some other support, as in this online group.

I seem to have a problem with losing and carrying on losing. When I lose a pound I seem to put it back on and then have to lose both the original pound and the additional one! My downfall seems to be eating out or takeaways. Any suggestions for takeaways that really fit in with SW?

Honestly? My answer is don't have takeaways (and yes, I can hear the intake of breath and muttering from all over this forum right now!!)

But honestly, takeaways are expensive and usually high in fat and calories. Any time saved in cooking is wasted in going to get them and then there is the extra cost of petrol if you go by car.

Whilst that's true and I'm a big advocate of cold turkey (both literally and figuratively) the reality is that it WILL happen and as long as you factor it in by flexi-synning and not letting it destroy an entire week, it shouldn't do any lasting damage. The reality is that the harder you are on yourself the harder this way of life seems to you and the more likely you are to rebel.

Whats more achievable is to cut them back, either in frequency or volume. If you have one a week, make it one a month. If you have a payday blow out, make it for special occasions only. Have smaller portions, share with your partner, get plain rice instead of fried or a small pizza instead of a large one. Knowing you CAN do it and that long term you WILL still get there is the heart of this. It's not a diet, its not about restricting yourself forevermore. It's a way of life that accepts everything goes in moderation and accepts we slip up, we blow out, we celebrate, commiserate and indulge.

Dont give up because you can't 'figure it in'. That way sabotage lies. Have it, enjoy it. Move onwards and downwards.

I know were not supposed to but i use my syns weekly and have a proper take away every weekend like 40 syns worth! And just have low syn days for the rest of the week...so im still within my syns x

There are ways around it as I also have a takeaway once a week as my OH can't do without so from the chinese I generally have boiled rice (free) and chicken in black bean sauce (5) and some plain noodles (free). If we have a kebab I either have a chicken kebab (which is chicken breast pieces griddled) and I just class this as 3 syns for oil and then I have salad and pitta bread (7.5) so total of 10.5 syns. Or I will have a small doner kebab which is 8.5 for the meat and then 7.5 for the pitta bread so 16 syns. If you like Indian again stick to plain boiled rice which is free and try to stick with Chicken dhansak (6.5), chicken jalfrezi (8.5) or lamb rogan josh (6.5)....so you can still have takeaways but just try to make the right choices and you can stay within your daily syns x

You could try making your own take aways.
There is a reciepe on here for SW kebab meat and it tastes just the smae as the shop one but not as greasy, its a life saver after a couple of drinks when the take away menus are calling.
Have that with a HEXB pitta lots of salad. I make a ritta to go with it with FF natural yogurt mint and cucumber. If thats not enough have it with some SW chips with a HEXA of cheese on - or make the cheese sauce out of the sauces book.

You could make your own pizza's, just syn a ready made base then pile it with loads of veg and HEXA of cheese. There are loads of curry reciepes on here as well as chinese. Have a scan of the receipe threads.
Everyone fancies a take away now and then and that's ok. But SW is all about changing your attitude to food and making better choices for life. It sounds like you want to eat what you eat now but still loose weight - well bottom line is we can't do that. If we could we wouldn't need SW in the first place!!

PS sorry just read you post again I was wondering what it was about going back to work that made you put the weight back on?

Favourite takeaways - are particularly Indian, Chinese, and pizza (although I tend to avoid pizza more than the others because that cheese just disappears on the surface and you don't know how much you really have on there unless you make the pizza yourself!)

Don't know really - I try to eat as healthily as possible, with lots of fruit and veg. However, I seem to go to pot regularly, eating less fruit and then try to get back on track. But it seems to happen regularly. Going back to work meant I didn't have time to attend group which I think helped me most to motivate me, but trying to do it online I found very stressful as I was juggling so much at the same time - cooking, cleaning, caring for disabled son, housework. At one point it all got too much and everything went out the window, washing piled up, papers and post piled up, it was just a case of fire-fighting. And to try to work out menus for a week or even a day was difficult as my mind just shut down! It was information overload. I do always try to get back on track, but don't like set-backs given all these things I have to juggle. Sorry to be so long in my reply. I like the support and motivation and having peeps around motivates me. Thanks everyone for all the comments, I appreciate it. Some really good ones here!

You should be really proud of yourself for trying to get back on track! You could have used work as an excuse to give it up altogether but you didn't! I think it's a great first step! You need to sit down take a breath and start small! Pick out 3 favourite dishes that are easy to make! Then make a huge batch and freeze so you won't get caught out! When I started I took an hour and a half in a Sunday making a soup, a curry and boiled ham and chicken to keep in fridge for sandwiches or to add to rice! Then when I was managing my routine a bit better I tried new things! Take everyday as it comes and look at what triggers you to go off track! Then you'll know what you need to change or what to ask advice for! Good luck x

Having read your most recent post, I am now feeling a bit guilty about my comments about just not having takeaways. Obviously you have a great deal to cope with in your life, and my remarks must have seemed a bit judgmental and unsupportive, for which I apologise.
