On January 28th 2013, I joined Slimming World with the mentality that I would give weight loss one last try to prove I couldn't do it. I weighed in that night at 22st exactly wearing a top that was a size 24-26 and a pair of leggings that kept rolling down as my waist was wider than my hips. My periods had been so irregular (none for months at a time then a couple a month) and my hormones were all over the place. I was miserable. I slunk into the room and hid at the back hoping no one would notice me. By the time I left that night, I had a glimmer of hope. I set my first target to lose 6st as I didn't want to think about a final target, but didn't see the point of aiming for one or two stone when I had so many to lose. Getting to 20st didn't seem like an achievement, I would still be 8st overweight.
That first week, I gave it an honest try, even though I didn't expect much. I knew I could lose weight, I just couldn't keep it up. I lost 2.5lb in my first week and that bolstered me. It wasn't the huge loss I knew I could achieve, but it was maintainable. Someone mentioned in those first few weeks that 1 lb a week for a year was over 4st in a year, and somehow my attitude changed. I was in it for the long haul this time. I'd been on slimming world before and lost almost 2st but piled it (and more) back on. Something clicked in my brain that day that if I'd gotten my act together the first time, I'd have been at target and I wouldn't still be struggling to shift so much.
Fast forward to the summer and I'd lost over 4st and was feeling good. I was wearing a size 18-20, my periods were regular again, and my confidence was soaring. Then I had my first true gain and my motivation shattered once more. I tried everything to get my mojo back. Red days, green days, success express, limiting fruit, gorging on fruit, cutting down on carbs, lots of exercise, limiting exercise, tons of water, taking a break from slimming world, religiously counting syns. ..honestly, I think all I did was shock my system into paralysis. False starts, hiccups and frustration have dominated my last 9 months and it saddens me that if I'd been able to get my **** together in all that time, I could have been at my new final target of a healthy bmi by now.
This is not a plea for pity, I don't know that anyone will read this, this diary is for me, but if my being honest can help someone else, then it's worth putting it all out there. My lowest weight since I started in January 2013 was 16st 13.5lb. Today I weigh 17st 9.5lb. I have stumbled but I have not quit. Sometimes you have to retreat in order to go forward in a new direction.
Today I am making myself a promise. This is my new slimming world journey. I plan to lose another 5st 11.5lb. It won't be easy, nothing worth doing ever is, but I deserve it and I will fight for it.
Today is the first day of my third slimming world journey and I can do it.

J ust in from my walk this morning and he figured I'd update on my meals yesterday. I've stopped having breakfast as such because it's just an excuse for me to eat more. My lunch is usually early enough that I can wait (around 11am).
So despite no breakfast, I still have a mocha type thing from my tassimo machine (made with ordinary instant coffee - free and 1 suchard chocolate pod -3 syns) and 1 pint of water before my walk. It's only a mile and a half but is well worth it.
Lunch as I say is early but I had a pasta salad made up with onions, peppers and sweetcorn (all free) and about a tbsp of sweet chilli sauce (an overestimation probably but better over than under) - 1.5 syns. I also had another huge coffee and 750ml of water.
I had a malteaser bunny as a snack and almost died when I found out it was 8 syns but it was delicious so I don't care.
Dinner was baby potatoes, chilli and garlic chicken fillet, cauliflower, broccoli, sweetcorn and onion and was far too much. I sort of thought I was starving then when I started eating, I realised I really wasn't that hungry.

The chilli and garlic on the chicken fillets was from a grinder which is probably free but contains paprika oil which I'm not sure about, but I have a few spare syns for the day anyway so it's all good

Total syns 12.5 (roughly)
Total fluids 2.05l (actually more cuz I had about half a bottle of diet fizzy lime but have no measurement for it).
All in all, a day I'm happy with

Yesterday was another good day. I think I like starting my day with the day before ' post. It reminds me what I shouldn't throw away.
Breakfast again yesterday was a pint of water followed by a 400ml mocha (3 syns).
Lunch was pasta salad this time with some chicken and sliced baby potatoes throw in from the previous nights leftovers (I suppose an extra syn in case the ground spices weren't free - 2.5 syns).
Dinner was huge, don't have a picture but 4 slender choice sausages (2 syns), 4 baby potatoes and an enormous plate of veg. I made some smash gravy with aromat, stock and smash so that was free too.
I also had a kitkat after work (5.5 syns).

Total syns 13
Total fluids 2.05L

Happy happy ?

Well done so far on your journey!! I'll be following your diary from now on.

Thanks jenniecakes, how are you finding SW? I see on your profile you're running a 10k very soon, good luck with it, and let me know how you get on. Hopefully someday I'll be able to do the same. I'm doing race for life in June, although I won't be able to run it all. I figure every bit i run is better than parking my butt on the couch.

I love SW! I was always a weightwatcherer in the past whenever I dieted, but I've found this much easier to stick to in the long run. Plus, i'm never hungry! And I'm much healthier in general.
Thanks for the sponsor btw!! I've never really been a runner, or a sporty person at all in the past, but I guarantee if you put some energy in to it, and go out every 2 or 3 days for a short run, you'll soon find your staminer builds up.
I've never done a running race, so pretty nervous about the whole getting there, signing in, etc, but once I'm running I should be fine lol.
Let us know how you get on this week at weigh in. What day do you weigh in?

Thanks, I weigh in on Monday so hoping for a good loss to give me a boost back to where I had been. I've started the C25k app and gotten to week 4 so still early days, but my treadmill belt is slipping so I've had to put it on hold and I'm still too self conscious to run in public (I know, only a couple of weeks to get over that). I'm looking forward to it tho.
Glad you're enjoying SW, it really is the easiest type of diet. You can adapt pretty much any recipe or snack without feeling like you're giving things up. I tried weight watchers years ago, and while I know it works for tons of people, I think for more than a couple of stone loss, it's much harder because at the time I was familiar with the plan, there wasn't anything really that you could fill up on. Once your points were gone, that was it until the next day. In my head, this was a recipe for disaster because the minute I had an extra anything, the whole day was a write off so I may as well go nuts and have me a proper binge. If I was gonna feel like a failure, may as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb.

I know exactly what you mean. I used to have a massive, literally huge binge as well after weigh-in every week. Even though it was propoints/points for everything i never felt fully in control.
I'll keep my eyes open for your weigh in on monday

Thanks jenniecakes, will post here when I weigh in ;)
Yesterday was much the same as the day before, pasta salad for lunch, a bag of crisps after work and dinner was slender choice sausages, fried egg and potato wedges, with cauliflower and broccoli to stuff the plate full. And lots and lots of water :p
Total syns 12
Total fluid 2.5L

No walk this morning as I had to start early. Got told yesterday I have to be finished work for 12 which means I had to start at 6 instead of 9, then I have to pick a friend up from the docks as she's over to visit from Scotland. Gonna be a bit off plan today as we're probably going for lunch and then having some drinks this evening. Hopefully I can keep some control (I think I want smash fish tonight for dinner, had a craving since someone from group posted a picture on the fb group), and get back on track tomorrow x

Didn't get my smash fish yesterday, didn't cook at all. Had earlier than usual lunch of sausage, sausage roll and a wrap from a shop so I'm not counting syns for yesterday cuz that'd decimate them.
Kept some control tho, went for dinner when I'd picked my friend up and had a stir fry with boiled rice. I know it won't have been syn free but it was probably the best option on the menu and I resisted having chips with it which is a victory.
Had a couple of choccie bits tho and a few cider so WAAYY over my syns for the day. It was planned tho and I'm back on the wagon today.

So this week seems to have really paid off. Weighed in tonight at 17st 4.5lb on the scales at class which is 1 lb off since 2 weeks ago (my scales at home are almost exactly the same), but roughly 6 lb off since last week.
Motivation is sky high for the week ahead, despite being a bit off plan over the weekend. Hoping for maybe 3 lb off for next week so that the following week I can get back to my lowest again.
Wish me luck ;) x

Fantastic! Well done Hun, I'm sure you can do 3lb, even if you go off plan still try and syn things as it'll give you a good idea of how you've been and often you'll feel naughty and pull it back the other days

Have a great week x

Thanks jenniecakes, that's the plan, feeling really motivated and itching to exercise just now, but not sure what to do. Think its a bit late to hit the gym and don't wanna go for a walk...might check out YouTube for some exercise vids

Wound up doing 45 minutes of Just Dance on YouTube. Was great, think I'll be doing much more of that. I noticed a lot of different types of exercise on there so who needs a gym membership ;)
Breakfast yesterday was 1 slimbo (5 syns) with my he cheese.
Lunch was pasta salad (free)
Dinner was SW chips, fried egg, beans and another slimbo (I was really hungry after class).
I also had a milky way whose syns I didnt check but it was worth it and my treat for after class.

Total syns > 10
Total fluid 1.9L
Exercise 45 mins

OK so been a bit lax this week, was really good up until the weekend then just went a little loopy. Still managed to shift 2 lb so I'll take that. I won't list what I've eaten lately cuz to be honest, I'm not very proud of it, but when I've been good, I've been really good, so I suppose it evens out.
Taken up swimming again, although i'm not much of a swimmer but gonna try and go Mondays after class, Wednesday after work and before my other work, Friday evening and Saturday mornings. Went Saturday with a friend and managed 12 lengths (50m pool) then 16 tonight. Feeling fantastic and itching to go again. Don't know whether to make the most of this motivation and go as often as possible, or to pace myself so I don't get fed up and stick with walking or the gym on the non swim days. It's not like I'm doing enough to injure myself or need rest days, I just don't want to get bored of it and give up....first world problems, eh?

7lb loss this week to make up for last weeks 4 lb gain. Seem to have gotten my head sorted. Made up an excel spreadsheet to keep my food diary and that seems to have made all the difference. I have never before kept a full weeks food diary, but I think I'm a convert. This week's meals are planned and shopped for so no excuses. Hopefully 3 lb off this time next week :D

Just finished dinner and had to post, OMG, I love pizza! It's not even naughty pizza. Made the base from the fakeaway book (125g strong bread flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 sachet of easy bake yeast and 75ml warm water), and I'm not sure if it's the recipe or new pizza stone I bought from home bargains (£5), but I'll never buy a bake at home pizza again, frozen or otherwise. Every bit as good as pizza shop pizza, and half the price or less. The whole 9 inch pizza would be 22 syns, but I'm stuffed after half of it and a handful of SW chips.

Pound and a half off Monday night, taking me below my lowest since starting SW. Decided to treat myself today by (finally) getting my engagement ring resized. I have gone from an S to N. I have been told that this is an average size for a woman so I am delighted. The only thing i am an average size in is shoes.

'Nother half pound off and slimmer of the month by default (the actual sotm didn't stay so I got her prize :D ). Aiming for a big 4 lb this week to get me my 5.5 st award next week. Gonna try to aim for at least 9lb off a month.
