Not using all my HEX A

Hiya, looking for a bit of advice, which I think I've read before on here but can't find the thread/post.

I normally have skimmed milk for my HEX A, and use it in coffee throughout the day. Recently I've been drinking less coffee, so less milk. Yesterday for example, I only drank 200 mls of the 350 mls.

Should I be synning the milk if I don't drink the entire 350mls? I suppose I could change to semi-skimmed so the allowance is smaller, but we all drink skimmed here and seems a bit odd to change it just to fit in with my HEX. Also, in advance I won't know if I am going to need all 350 mls... on any particular day I might NEED more coffee ;)

I can't see why you would have to syn it for using less of your healthy extra, they are completely optional, so you don't have to use any of them if you don't want. I regularly use less or none of my HEA and I've lost 4.5st so far so I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck with ur journey tho xxx

Thanks x Well done on your loss, that's amazing x

Now that you mention it, I often don't have my Hex B at all, which I've never worried about, I happily leave it out.

I just wondered if having "some" of a HEX had to be synned as you're not getting the full nutritional allowance, which is the point (or my understanding anyway) of a HEX.

Anyway, I guess it's not making a difference to my weight loss yet, but it might be something that I'll have to look at when I am near my target later on. Way, way, way later on!!

Yeah, I know what u mean, but it's not as if the amount you drink has the bad stuff like fat and the rest, the calcium and good stuff, so I guess the issue would be if not having so much milk would mean you weren't getting enough calcium for example. In that case, that shouldn't affect the plan, and wouldn't require synning the milk (in fact, that would make you less likely to drink milk at all). As you said your target is a while away, I wouldn't worry about it xx

I would move on to Semi skimmed and then use 1/2 a syn per dash of milk in your coffee if you go over.
The exact values are one tbsp full fat is 0.5 syn 2 tbsp of semi skimmed is 0.5 syns and skimmed milk is 3 tbsp for 0.5 syns.

I struggle for HEXA cos I don't drink tea or coffee, but I've really been enjoying apple wedges with a piece of cheese as a snack so that solved the problem.

I think in the past SW's 'rules' included to syn it if not having the full Hex amount, but not anymore!

However I will say that at the start I didnt have my Hex's and I had much slower losses. Having 3/4s is fine, but I'd try and introduce HExB if I were you- so many nice things to have too!
Bowl of 35g chocolate shreddies would be both your hexA and B for a yummy treat (if skimmed milk would still easily leave you enough for a couple of coffees), or a wholemeal roll with grilled cheese- mmm!

Hex's, once you get into them, are better than synned things! They're like your free ticket to a treat and they help your weight loss from the extra fibre and calcium!! :)

Thank you WannabeThinna. Over the last week I've been synning the dashes of milk and using Hex A on cheese, so that seems to be working out ok for now.

Thanks Tetris. I've been having more of my Hex B, usually an egg on toast, but I think I'll splash out on some crispbread this week. Might make a good evening snack with my cheese.

I've been looking for a thread about this for ages! Thank you :) x

Hi Fifi

Just to update you, for the last couple of weeks I've had my Hex A and Hex B fully each day. My losses have also improved which I am putting down to feeling fuller on the Hexs. For A I have mini babybel light or laughing cow light. For B I have Ryvita. I now syn the couple of coffees I have instead of using milk as a Hex.

That's brilliant to hear! I've had some big losses but, I've found on the weeks when I haven't lost much I haven't used my Hex's enough so I will go along the lines that you've followed and hopefully that will work! xx

Thanks coughdrops. I really have not paid attention to the HEX because I don't like any of the B choices and without counting or measuring I have a few cups of tea each day with skimmed milk and just figured that would cover the A choices. I never bothered to really investigate the HEX and just figured that having less than my allowance (less A and no B) would not make any difference to my weight loss - after all I just assumed that putting less of anything into my body would help. Your experience has just shaken me awake that I need to use them properly. Sigh, I really don't like those B's but I suppose I will have to try.

If you have access to the online food diary, check it out, there are some HEB's that you might not be aware of, like certain soups, extra virgin olive oil, or if you haven't tried them, some of the cereal bars are much better than I expected. I developed a taste for rocky road hifi bars and double chocolate Alpen lights, which make great snacks if you're peckish

Over Christmas I didn't really track my Hex's (or anything for that matter!), so back on it today. Have a new pack of Ryvita to get through... exciting or what?!
