Healthy extras

Hi all,

I always seem to put skimmed milk and porridge as my healthy extras. I have porridge everyday for brekkie except weekends and I drink quite a bit of tea. I can't work out if it's better to syn my milk sometimes and have a different HEX, perhaps if I wanted cheese or a sandwich. I always seem to syn those. What does everyone else do? I need some advise.
thanks
sue :)

Hi, I alternate between using healthy extras on porridge and milk or cheese and cereal bars. You could try oats with yoghurt for the overnight oats. Also I now add water to the oats first then a little bit of milk and put in microwave so I have more milk left over for coffees. Im also toying with the idea of making porridge with either quinoa or cous cous to use my healthy extras elsewhere. Not sure if that helps.

Hi Adell,
thanks very much. I think I'll try the more water with my porridge, and the yogurt with the oats, I love yogurt so that will be an easy one .

No problem. I find adding water to the oats makes them expand more and you seem to get more of a bowlful, doesn't taste as creamy but I add honey and its fine :)

I split my Healthy Extras most days as I never seem to want a full portion of whatever I'm eating. So I'll often have one weetabix and one slice of wholemeal bread instead of two weetabix or whatever. I pretty much always use my HEA on skimmed milk just like you, but I might split that too on days when I'm not drinking much tea or didn't have cereal. I'll sometimes do 125ml semi-skimmed milk and 3 extra light Laughing Cow triangles as my HEA to mix it up a bit. If I run out of milk on those days and want more I just syn it per dash of milk after that.
