Hi all,

Recently found out I can no longer eat gluten/wheat - makes my healthy B that bit more difficult!

I'm not a fan of gluten free bread - anyone else got any suggestions??

The BFree Multigrain gluten free wraps are a HEB (available from Asda in the gluten-free rather than bread aisle)

1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil is still showing on the SW website as a HEB

Hey, I'm going gluten free, wheat free, diary free out of choice, just for the health benefits. I've given up on bread personally but I'd be happy to share ideas x

I'm not gluten/wheat intolerant but I really do like the Dietary Specials white ciabatta rolls. One is a HEB choice and they're really nice. I bought them from Asda x

If you are gluten/wheat intolerant, SW allow you to have any GF cereal as a healthy extra. Only for those who can't have normal cereal though.

as a member there's quite a few gf options on the healthy extras on the website. Still not tons of choice though. I will miss being able to use oil though.

Hi, I only signed up today. I'm a target member of sw, following a wheat/gluten and cow dairy free diet. I haven't been for a wi for months due to a family bereavement but although there are certain things you can't have (we're restricted anyway) I love it! On the off chance, I stupidly bought the farmfoods pork loin roasting joint and didn't think to check the ingredients. Says contains starch but not which type. Does anyone know if it's gluten free? I've looked for gluten free forums on here but can't find. Any. Cheers x

Hopefully you've seen the other Healthy Extra B options for gluten free folk - other than those in the book?

Just in case you haven't...

Healthy Extra alternative choices

Instead of one of the listed Healthy Extras you can have:

  • 60g of gluten-free bread
  • 35g of a suitable cereal eg made from corn or rice
  • 4 plain rice cakes

(note these may not contain as much fibre as foods listed as true Healthy Extras)

True Healthy Extras

Some gluten-free products do contain sufficient fibre to be considered a true Healthy Extra choice. These are

Dietary Specials, gluten & wheat free:

  • 2 slices White Bread, 400g sliced loaf
  • 1 x 50g White Ciabatta Roll
  • 1 x 50g White Ciabatta Roll, Part Baked

Doves Farm Organic, gluten free:

  • 35g Fibre Flakes Cereal

Genius Foods, gluten free:

  • 1 slice Brown Bread, 600g sliced loaf
  • 1 slice White Bread, 600g sliced loaf

Glutafin, gluten free:

  • 5 High Fibre Crackers
  • 1 x 65g Select Fibre Bread Roll
  • 2 slices Select White Bread, Part Baked, 400g sliced loaf
  • 1 x 65g Select White Bread Roll
  • 2 slices White Bread, 400g sliced loaf

Kallo, gluten free:

  • 8 Organic Low Fat Corn Cakes, Thin Slice, Slightly
    Salted

Trufree, gluten & wheat free:

  • 5 Onion & Herb Crackers
  • 5 High Fibre Crackers

Vogel’s:

  • 45g Soya & Linseed Ultra Bran Cereal

Note: Some gluten-free products may still contain wheat starch and would therefore not be suitable for those who also have a wheat intolerance.

I'm looking to cut as much wheat and dairy out of my diet, not entirely intolerant but it does bloat me. (I previously lost half a stone just cutting that out, so it goes to show!) I'm going to have to go half hogs on the dairy until I'm down to my target but the wheat should be easier on EE. I was thinking of creating my own cereal for the morning. Most Museli has gluten products in it, plus raisins and I hate them, bearing in mind I'll eat most things. Porridge does not contain the type of gluten I react to. I was thinking of mixing some with fresh fruit and some dried fruits and nuts and seeds, with it. Does anyone have a list of the latest HEB for dried fruit, nuts and seeds please? Many thanks. xx PS and I agree, gluten free bread is not very nice, my son has been having it for the last couple of years. Glad the poor little blighter doesn't know any different!

if you are gluten intolerant rather than coeliac, I recommend oatbran or toasted oatbran by Mornflake. Both are "proper" HEBs (35g) and the fibre content is off the charts!! The oatbran you make in to porridge (35g oatbran, 250ml water) - now ordinary oats I would NEVER use water, tastes vile, but this tastes just like normal porridge even when made with water, somehow it is a bit creamer even though it is just oats processed in a different way. The toasted oatbran is a crunchy cereal, I usually have 35g with 100ml SS milk.

Ref the gluten content, they have a very good page explaining the contents of their products here.

Extract from the page:

"Only foods that contain less than 20ppm can be labelled as 'gluten-free'......Products containing gluten above 20 and up to 100ppm will be labelled as 'very low gluten'....We regularly test the levels of wheat gluten in our oats, and the levels are often less than 20ppm gluten.... On occasions however the rolled oats may contain levels of gluten above 20ppm - these may occasionally be as high as 80ppm....One interesting point to note (because of the rather strange way the legislation is written) is that if we were to sell our oats made up into porridge using the instructions on the packets then the product would be allowed to be sold as "Gluten Free"."

I use gluten free porridge oats a lot to make porridge, cookies or baked oats as my HEb. I also use gluten free bread. One of my favourite HEb options though is cashew nuts. Lovely to eat whilst watching TV! I tend not to eat the gluten free cereal as I wasn't really losing weight when I ate them so I cut the cereal out!
