We have pots on the kitchen windowsill, in the downstairs loo, and even a trough in the dining room for my herbs...many of them will grow very happily indoors, and things like rosemary even have pretty purple flowers on so can be used in place of 'houseplants', plus they make the room smell great too

A lot of herbs, such as mints, are 'weedlike' in that they will put up with almost any conditions...I just make sure to rotate the ones on the windowsill if some look like they aren't getting enough light, and turn pots every couple of days so that you get even growth and not one really leggy side and one side with nothing on it...you can grow herbs in SO many small places, I would urge anyone to give it a try...it has worked really well for me and I am not the world's best gardener by any means!

I make everything into ice cubes now... When I open a box of passata I dont use it all so freeze it into cubes and drop one or two into gravies and stews when needed. I chop up coriander/parsley (stalks and all) put them in water in ice cube containers.. and the jelly stock (skim off fat) from chicken I freeze into cubes and one or two can go into soups.. they all go into bags... I also freeze whole lemons after washing them, and just grate them skin and all - saves using up a whole lemon and you get all the flavour you need. I did try garlic but it wasnt very successful.

I also use the tops of plastic milk bottles.... I cut the white plastic bit of with the screw top and use that to seal the bags with... you just put the top of the plastic bag through the hole and screw it on.... great for peas as they just pour through the hole

Dont upset me otherwise I will EAT YOU!! I am dieting!!

I bought this thing called a bluapple. I keep it in the salad drawer & it really does keep fruit & veg fresher for way longer. It was definitely worth the money for me - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005W4L6SE

Another tip I read for salad leaves that has worked for me so far is to put your salad in a bag & blow into it before sealing it - so the bag is expanded. The carbon dioxide preserves the salad apparently. It means that the salad takes up a fair bit of room & probably not ideal to serve the salad to guests as your breath is all over it but it works for me!

    Re: Tip Of The Day

I find buying lettuce as a head rather than a bag keeps a lot better. Its also really easy to grow the leaf lettuce like rocket so as soon as this stupid weather sorts itself out the seeds will be coming out again. Then you just take the leaves you need.

I read on this site a while back a lady makes up her salad boxes in Tupperware for work and places 1/4 if a lemon in each, she said they lasted for the 4 days - although not tried it myself

I keep all my veg in big sealable boxes in the fridge and they last for ages longer than if I didn't.

I also keep my potatoes and onions in a big whicker basket but separately in bags from poundland which have ' vegetables' or 'potatoes' labelled on them. They stop the onions from sprouting and the potatoes from growing eyes.
I also have a similar bag especially for mushrooms and I was amazed how long it keeps them fresh for.

I tried the lemon wedge in a salad Tupperware and it worked brilliantly xx

To keep lettuce fresher for longer I line an airtight tubberware containter with paper towel, and wrap the salad in it (basically so the paper towel is a blanket to it) and keep it in the fridge.. Its lasts ages.. Best part of 2 weeks I'd say..
