    Anyone TTC?

    Is anyone else ttc?
We've been 'trying' almost 2 years but i've always been 20st plus so i've known it would be tricky, have fallen 3 times but sadly i lost them. As lovely as my doctor is he has said i need to lose weight before sending me for tests. I know he's right but doesn't make it any nicer.
So if anyone wants to chat babies, i'm obsessed

Im TTC, Have always been 20st plus too, 28st at one stage a couple years ago. Have been trying for 5 years now. Married for 2.

Im now 16st 13.5lbs, at 22st I had an emergency op to remove a 20cm cyst on my right ovary which overstretched my right tube so thats knackered, and went for tests in september to see if my left tube was working, and its not so now been told to get down to 15st before they will speak to me again.

Fingers crossed for both of us,

if you're on FB add me im baby obsessed too

To be honest, I would go see another doctor. Regardless of how much you weigh, if you have been trying for over 2 years and have suffered several losses now, you should be referred to a specialist.

As you could be suffering from PCOS, which makes weight loss hard and also can result in miscarriage. So it is not as simple as your doctor telling you to lose weight before they will do tests.

I feel for you girls. I was referred to fertility via my GP after 2 years of no luck - did some cycles of clomid (an ovulation stimulator drug) that all failed and was told by them to go away and lose the weight and come back. At the time I was 21st 2. I did as they asked, rocked up again 7 stone lighter, did some more Clomid, and the third cycle worked. They also thought I could have PCOS but didnt have many obvious indicators at the time.

TBH Britmum, while it might be useful to go for investigations now, at least if the OP has lost a significant amount of weight before she gets there, they can start any treatments straight away, and my eldest daughter can testify to the fact that it works a HELL of a lot better when you arent carrying as much weight. Clomid, incidentally, can only be used for a set number of cycles, (I think its 6 within a 12 month period and 12 total over a lifetime) so if that is their first line plan for treatment, it really DOES benefit you to be in the best possible shape before you start.

I wish you all the luck in the world - there is no way of understanding exactly how distressing and frustrating TTC is when it is unsuccessful for a prolonged time unless you have been through it. The jealousy, the anger and the frustration are unbearable. Worst 4 years of my life, by a loooong chalk.

***hugs to you all*** I cant tell you how much I wish you success.

yes but speaking as someone who has PCOS and has gone through infertility and a loss, it is a never ending cycle, as it is difficult to lose weight for PCOS sufferers. Hence why she needs to be referred now. Especially as the OP has experienced 3 losses now.

If it is PCOS that is the cause of the problems, then there are various things that can be done to help her with her weight loss, metformin has worked wonders for me.

I am not saying she should be put on clomid or referred for IVF of something like that, as that will not happen without getting into a healthy bmi, but there is no reason why some tests can't be done to at least rule out a thyroid problem or PCOS, of which both can cause problems with weight loss and miscarriage.

Otherwise if she does have PCOS or similar, she could be struggling along for years trying to lose the weight on her own. Investigations should always be done after at least 2 years of trying and several losses regardless of weight to at first rule out some of the usual health problems that can cause infertility. It isn't always as simple as just saying, lose weight and then we will do investigations.

I dont disagree with you, but the way the NHS is, they will go for the easiest cheapest option first. I was lucky to be referred prior to being told to lose weight, tbh.

I was just sharing my experience in order to help the OP feel like it wasnt just a waste of her time losing the weight before being referred.

I began TTC about 2 years ago. I had to push my GP to send me for testing after stopping the pill & having no periods for 3 months.

They took a lot of blood, gave me tablets to make me have a period... Took more blood. They came to the conclusion that I was not ovulating at all. I had a hysterosalopingogram (I'm pretty sure that's spelt right) & that came back as normal.

The Doctors decided it was my weight stopping me from ovulating & told me to lose 10% of my body weight (about 2 stone) & then they would be willing to try me on Clomid. There's no point trying it atm because the higher your weight, the less likely it is to work & they recommend only a few trials of it before moving on because of the risks of cancer.

I'm back on the pill now just so I have periods & babies are on hold until then. It makes me so frustrated & breaks my heart when I see people around with babies.. & people I grew up with who have babies they don't want!

Please feel PM if you need any advice about the testing, I've been through it all Pocked n prodded & dealt with some rude (VERY rude) Doctors.

You certainly aren't alone in this *hugs*

Just ETA - I have been diagnosed with PCOS but it doesn't hinder my weightloss at all. There are different types, which require different types of treatment. I have no cysts, just a hormonal imbalance which is sorted out just fine with the pill. PCOS isn't an awful diagnosis that should be feared.. Just wanted to add a little ray of hope before anyone worried Lol.

This might be a silly question.. Were you on the pill when the PCOS tests were done? I had a few done, one set was while I was on the pill & my GP claimed my hormones had sorted themselves out.. They hadn't, the pill had sorted them. Lol. It's amazing what some of these Drs come out with!

Do you know whether you're ovulating at all? There is a test that the Drs can do to clarify this for you & was one of them that I had done. Might be worth asking about? I was lucky that the fertility clinic were so thorough in their testing before deciding it was purely a weight issue - they basically ruled out everything else & that's all that was left! Lol

Not on the pill but i might go back and ask for tests, surely i have a right to know whats going on with my body. I'm not sure if i'm ovulating, the couple on months i used the fertility monitor was all highs but apparently it takes a few cycles for it to adjust to you. I'm so scared i can't have a baby and i think half the time i sabotage myself because at least at the moment i can blame the weight issue, if that makes sense.

It makes sense to me, I am the same. My main weightloss goal is to have a baby.. But what if I lose the weight & I still can't conceive? Where do I go from there? It terrifies me. Even though I lost 10% of my weight, I didn't go back to my GP for the clomid.. No, instead I binged & put 10lbs back on!

You definitely deserve to know what's going on with your body. I find that I have to push for things with my GP, don't be afraid to tell them what you want. I took my OH with me for extra support. & you might get a few answers as to whether or not you're ovulating, whether you have any cysts (it is possible to have PCOS without the hormonal imbalance). & of course, they might be able to offer some answers about the miscarriages you had.

Hi, I am so sorry for your losses, could not imagine how hard that was and still is for you. I have a little boy and really really want another child, however I am refusing to try until I have got down to target as being overweight and pregnant was hard work. That said, I can't believe that your doctor will not address the issue until you have lost weight, it doesn't seem fair.

I really wish you the best xx
