    Gallstones :(

Was in so much pain last night and the emergancy doctor rushed me into hospital. They discovered that I have pretty bad gallstones

Recieved some tablets which will hopefully break them down but i have to go back in for an ultrasound to dertermine if they have worked, if they havn't I will have to have surgery to remove my gall bladder, which is the last thing that i want.

The doctor also told me that it could have been caused due to my weight loss which isn't good.

Sooo scared though if i need the surgery, even though it is only key hole, the whole thought of been put to sleep and not been in control of what is happening is scaring the hell out of me.

Hopefully the tablets will work, although the doctor wasn't optimistic about them.

    Has anyone else had this??

    Hi,
I found out I had gallstones after suffering for about a year with the pain. I wasn't given the option to take tablets to dissovle the stones because I was told there would always be a chance they would develop again. I had my gall bladder removed by key hole surgery and it was fine. I was in and out in the same day! That was about 4 years ago and I haven't had any more trouble.

I know you are anxious about surgery (if it come to that) but I would try not to worry about it, it seems to be a straight forward, routine operation these days. Hope the tablets work for you. x

Hi, I had my gallbladder removed about 3 yrs ago by keyhole surgery. I was so scared at the thoughts of having the op that I cancelled my first surgery. Honestly it was nothing to worry about, in and out on the same day. Best of luck and try not to worry x

yep me 2, i was 18 - 19 nd had it for well over a year b4 the doctor decided to test me to see if i had it, he actually told me it was heartburn and indigestion for about 8 months and perscribed me gavison for the pain! shud of sued him lol. it started wen i was preg with my son 6 yr ago and it was down to bad eating habits such as eatin cheese, full fat milk and basically an unhealthy diet, the stones r balls of cholestrel (yuk) so it got to the point where i felt like i had been stabbed the pain was so bad, i went to the hosp by the off chance and i had the pain whilst i was seeing the doc and they cud see how much pain i was in was terrible, so i was in for a week and had all sorts of tests done, it also led to me gettin pancreatis but then luckily that was treated.

in the end i had the surgery and it was fine. gotta take it easy for a while but u will be fine. i lost so much weight aswell coz i had to go on a no fat diet. but all in all it was fine. 5 yrs on and my only prob is i have ibs which hasnt been diagnosed but i go to the toilet quite abit but im used to now and theres not much i can do bout it.

    xx
    Good luck and enjoy!

Aww thanks everyone for your replies
I have to go for another ultrasound in two weeks to see if the tablets have broken them down.

Yeah i have been told it is key hole surgery and it isnt the surgery what bothers me, its the putting me asleep, i am such a control freak and knowing that i wont be in control really scares me

Yeah they have told me for the past year it was heartburn so bit pissed about that lol.

Yep, me too. I had my gall bladder removed in 1999. And if I had to make the choice again, I would certainly got for the op again. Although I had colics to horrible extends, I kept putting the op off for more than two years. In the end I had no other choice than having it done asap - and in hindsight I wish I had made that decision a lot sooner. Yes, there was a bit of pain after the op, however it was nothing compared to the pain, nausea, vomiting, .......... before.

Oh poor you, I hope the tablets do the job. I've heard that weight loss can lead to gallstones, pretty scary that you try to make yourself more healthy and end up facing that trauma! Hope you're better soon.

I have had a general anaesthetic once - my son was an emergency section and the spinal didn't work. I had about 10 mins to get my head around the idea before they stuck the wotsit over my mouth. Boy did I take deep breaths.

It was a no brainer really as we thought my son was in distress and had to get out asap.

What I hadn't realised was that when under you have no sense of time. One second you're breathing into this face mask, the next you're in post op abusing some poor nurse because you want a cuppa and you want it NOW and not the sappy outsize cottonbud soaked in some syrupy crap. What can I say? It was the morphine....

My sis-in-law had keyhole surgery to blast the gallstones just before Xmas and has been like a button ever since - a tubbier button as she's been shovelling everything she had to avoid before down her neck.

Sod's law his APGAR at birth was 8/10 and 5 mins after was 10/10. Little sod was not in any distress at all - and nearly 17 years later he's still taking life at a yawn and an A*

hi , I had gallstones and had my gallbladder removed last about 6 months ago . The pain from gallstones is horrendous ( the only thing I think that comes close to child birth !) and although i was terrified of the operation it was a no brainer for me as i didnt want to risk that pain again !!!
I had never been put under before either and I was terrified of the loss of control too , but it was actually not bad , one min i was talking to the guy putting me to sleep , the next I was back on the ward having a hot choc
I hope the tablets work for you , but if you do need the surgery try not to worry too much , its over before you know it
