    lunch with a friend?

I've been invited to lunch at my friend's house. the disbeliever who thinks I'll never lose weight because I have no staying power... I've not told her I'm on SW, and don't intend to until the loss begins to show.

anyway, she's used to me taking my own milk and margarine due to the whole lactose intolerant thing, and to me being a fairly health conscious hippy type, so getting away with telling her I'm now using gluten free seed bread (and asking if I can bring my own) should be easy, but what about the other things she normally has there? cakes, biccies and whatnot? I don't want to fall at the first hurdle but it'll be so hard to resist! I also don't really want to take a flexi day in my first week.

how do I cope?! how would you cope?
    thanks!

    Hi Flibsey,

Good luck on your journey and if you really don't want to 'out' yourself, nor have a flexi day just yet just hope your friend has things like kit-kats or jaffa cakes. Kit Kat is 5.5 syns for a 2-bar (11 syns for 4-bar) and jaffa are 1 syn each. That way you can have a bit of a mix and stay within your 15 syns for the day.

Home made or shop bought cakes can be horrendous in syns but if there's nowt else on offer - choose a cake with minimum filling or frosting.

It might be easier to come out though and take a small selection of the lowest syn cakes you like and show her that you can still partake as long as you are a bit more selective.

I guess if you really wanted to you could suggest that you cook some pasta with a tomato and vegetable sauce? Say that you want to try cooking new things and as such today is your day to try so would she mind being a guinea pig?

Or is it more of a sandwich kind of lunch date? If so just make a sandwich with whatever filling (lean meat, cheese as a HexA, tuna with synned Mayo) and bulk it out with salad? Or eat a fruit salad or some free soup before leaving so you only have just the sandwich while there.

If you have the syns available have a biscuit or two/packet of crisps/slice of cake - you don't have to deprive yourself if anything just ensure you know of the limitations within syns.

Or if all else fails just say you have a bit of a poorly tum and don't feel up to eating much but fill up before you leave to resist the temptation of the calling from the kitchen cupboards! Xx

    Sandwiches I think. I hope!!!

thankyou, I appreciate that. She's used to me reading labels (she doesn't cook much lol) due to the allergies and intolerances so I can also check the packets of the food and do the whole 20 cals = 1 syn

    thanks!

Ooooh just thought! If you're having sandwiches why not suggest a club sandwich?! Mega filling and can do a variety! My ideal would be -
Bread, Mayo spread instead of butter, lettuce, tomato, chicken, bread, bacon, cheese, more lettuce, Mayo and topped with bread.

Extra low fat Mayo is half a syn a tbsp, if using the bread from your HexB then the extra slice is only going to be approx 3 syns, cheese from HexA and the rest free!

In fact, I know what I am going to be having next Saturday for lunch! Xx

    Hi flibsey,

It's a shame your friend think you will not succeed in your weight loss. I'd hate to think anyone thought that of me.

I'd say take your own food that is syn free.. A cheesy pasta bake, syn free soup, or some meringues with quark topping and fruit.. That will help with the cravings.

Ask her not to put too many naughty things on the table too.. X

Re 'other things' why not save some syns, that way you can have the biccies & cake & still stay within the plan. Unless you know exactly what you are eating, eg kit-kat, you're going to hazzard a guess at the syns, but if you plan to save some syns for lunch you'll be ok

she thinks I wont succeed because I never have in the time she's known me.

yeah, if I ask her not to put out naughty food it'll be waaaaaay too out of character for me hahahaha!!!

I am going to make some low syn brownies. I nearly always take a cake, and I have a recipe that works out to 4.4 syns a chunk. Fat free, sugar free and tastes amazing. you're only synning the flour (24 for whole tray) and cocoa powder (4 for whole tray), and it works out to just under 4.5 syns per 1 inch x 2inch chunk. I'll weigh a chunk when I make some as the values currently refer to it being cooked in an 8" tin. she'll never notice lol.
