I've not bought any. I borrowed one from my friend, but ended up having to change half the ingredients in a recipe due to intolerances and allergies and basically... they're not for me.

I've never bought a single SW recipe book. To be honest I rarely even use the recipes on the SW website - I just tend to experiment and through a few ingredients together

It's true you can get away with never buying a recipe book because there are a lot of free recipe resources out there, either SW friendly such as on here or the slimmingeats.com site, or mainstream recipe site where you can adapt ingredients to fit with the plan.

But if you are not confident about doing that yet and want to buy a book then I would have a browse through the books the next time you are at class. Your consultant should have copies available for you to look at. There is a small soup book which is very reasonably priced and has some lovely recipes in it, and the One Pot Cooking (sorry I can't remember it's proper title) is also a good one. if you like curries then there is a great recipe book devoted to all sorts of curries and side dishes.

Thanks for your help. The soup, and curry book look ok. Also I've seen a book called four seasons cookbook on eBay, (I don't belong to a class). Any ideas on how much these retail at, as I don't want to pay a fortune!

not sure as I can only get the in class prices.

one book I can recommend isn't actually an SW one though.

The Secrets of Fat-free Cooking: Amazon.co.uk: Sandra Woodruff: 9780895296689: Books

you need to check things for SW, but a lot of the recipes are free with a teeny bit of tweaking and are lovely.

    and I got mine for 36p + £2 postage.

If you like curry, the Curry Feast is a must. I haven't had a bad recipe out of it.

I would recommend Curry Heaven, the Extra Easy cookbook, and Extra Easy Meals in Mins. The magazines are worth buying for the recipes as well.

I don't really rate the 50 Green Recipes book (or possibly it's 100 recipes, lol - can't remember, as I leant it to a friend) - lots of variations of the same thing, and some quite bland things.

Back on track after a shaky start to 2012 - aiming for 10 stone 7.5 to regain my 5 stone award!

I'd reccommend the Christmas Made Easy cookbook......as hamster bedding. Full of good intentions but completely unrealistic!

I went through a phase of buying them regularly and the only one that gets regular use is the One Pot Wonders one. The rest seem to be re-hashes of magazine recipes and a lot of them are pretty obvious IMO- just bog standard recipes cooked in frylight instead of oil. I'd rather browse the Good Food website and make those tweaks for free!

I splashed out on the Everyday Italian one when I first started, it's awful! Such a shame-but it's basically every possible meat, fish or mediterranean veg teamed with every possible variation of herbs they could think of. I could make it up myself quite frankly ;(

If you want my advice- buy yourself a ring binder, some plastic inserts and the monthly SW and make your own!
Don't dig your grave with your own knife and fork!!

i collect cook books all types i really dont know why i bother as i tend to make it all up or use sw mag or this site for inspiration i have bought myself a recipe keeper and write in my inventions / or recipes i see make and like im slowly building up my very own cook book and i consult that all the time whilst my expensive bought ones just sit there gathering dust i work on the theory if what i make tastes really bad i always have a few frozen leftovers in the freezer for emergencies
