    Slimming World & Psoriasis

Does anyone else find that sticking to plan means their psoriasis flares up? I finally gave in & got diagnosed by the doc & have been told to avoid eating chilli, spices, tomatoes, berries, Aubergine, amongst other things. This is pretty much 1/2 my SW diet - nearly all my meals are tomato based or spicy. How can I live without fat & flavour in my meals?!

Has anyone got any tips on best moisturisers etc to use?

Like you I love spicy and tomato based so can feel for you. I have no answer to substitutes. Can you use garlic??

Paul suffers from very bad psoriasis and the thing that aggravates it the most is coca cola so he never drinks it these days.

Lily( carrying 2 hitchhikers diary) suffers from the most horrendous psoriasis I have ever heard of. She should be able to help you with the moisturiser question. The only suggestion I can make is to ask the pharmacists in your chemist. The first thing that springs to mind is when I was having radiotherapy there was a range of special, gentle creams, shower gels etc.It might be worth asking about them. There was soap too.

Hope you get the info you need.

    hugs xxxxxxx

If you get off, get thrown off, or lose your place, run after it! If that doesn't work, get the next immediate wagon. Fight to stay on the wagon it will take you to your destination

It's a right feckin pain Sue!

Tonight was always gonna be a carbonara, and tomorrow I can something with salmon & Philly light maybe. Lunch tomorrow can probably be soup which is itchy food free but breakfast is a complete head mess for me. I need to avoid berries & I usually add them to porridge, and tomatoes, which I usually have with baked eggs or something like that.
I have 1/2 a pineapple in the fridge - maybe I could just haw that with some fruit & fibre & a yogurt?

After tomorrow I really haven't got a clue though!

How about cheesy scrambled eggs ? Can you have pepper??? I love pepper with scrambled eggs. Roasted red peppers and onions springs to mind instead of tomatoes. Boiled eggs chopped up with a spoonful of low,low fat mayo with diced cucumber or beetroot mixed into it or even finely chopped gherkin.

Sauces for pasta without tomato........hmmmmmmmm............thinking....... .........pepper sauce ( if you can have pepper ) made with fromage frei, black pepper and a sprinkle of sugar. Cheese sauce made with Laughing Cow extra light,5 is a hexa and melted in a spot of hot milk make a great sauce,3of the blue triangles is another option.onion sauce made using blended roasted onion and fromage frei, quark or natural yogurt. Balsamic vinegar is another great flavour booster so is Worcester sauce, mint sauce blended with mayo etc.............as I think of more I will post them for you.

Some of the curry powders can hardly be considered to be spicy as in SPICY.

I know you said the doctor told you not what to eat, but have you seen a pattern with your food diary & psoriasis. My dad really suffers with it so I know how awful it can be. I've posted in your food diary what he uses to help make his skin a little better.

I hope you soon find your trigger.

Thanks both! I forgot to mention my devoutly carnivore husband so the meals need to meat based as well.

I nearly always keep my hea for cheese, I guess I will just have to be inventive with it! I like the blue cheese idea - will defo try that.

I suppose I could do pork loin with SW chips & veg.

My friend at work whose wife suffers says that you just need to steal clear of the itchy foods for a week or so to get it to calm down so we'll see. I guess I just need to use it as an opportunity to try some new meal ideas

Thanks Sculls - I'm trying to avoid the steroid creams tbh as long as I can and am hoping I can at least alleviate it by avoid certain foods for a while. The light treatment thing does seem to work but not sure how I would go about that- my GP is next to useless at referring you for anything unless you have a limb falling off!

HH - You have a point about trigger foods. I've not eaten berries very often in the last 6 months and the psoriasis has still been there, so it seems unlikely thats the culprit.

Sue, your scrambled egg recipe sounds divine, think i'll be doing that for breakfast at the weekend - minus the red peppers until I figure out if they are one of the trigger foods

Tried to rep you all but apparently I need to spread the love a bit before I can x

Paul gets the greatest results using gentian violet. It is fine if you don't mind having purple skin lol !!!

Mind you we do have some very "retro".purple patterned sheets !!!

Hey! My friend goes to light treatment a couple of times a week through her doctor and it has worked amazingly! The only thing is she said she has to stop soon as her allocation will run out and she is worried it will come back x
