November money challenge!

Yay I've got to go with another challenge, as I always say, these challenges make me question my purchases, other that a few more Christmas pressies I've nothing to buy, except the usual food, petrol etc.

Am definitely up for his one. November is the first month of having no credit to fall back on! Paid everything off and cut cards up which I feel great about but it's a little scary that there is what there is and nothing more, but will be better in December if I can make it through lol

It feels wonderful and very rewarding after the last few months, but it's the first time in years there hasn't been a safety net (that mostly got wasted actually) but we have paid all bills and done shopping and have £150 left so I should be able to get through it x

We managed to save £300 in Oct. So very please with that. Nov may be a tough month though as we will start buying Xmas pressies etc and hubby has got his eye on us booking a holiday for next year too :) xxx

I've started using cash only week by week, as I tend to be naturally 'tighter' with that than I am when using my bank card (not credit card - thankfully I got myself out of that mess some years back). I work out how much I have for the month after bills, split it over the month, and every Friday get out the cash for that week. I have a money tin that I keep it in, and only take with me what I can spend that day plus my emergency tenner if I'm going anywhere on my bike that might require a taxi home if I have an accident or my bike gets stolen. It seems to have worked okay over the last few months as haven't gone over my overdraft limit, or run out of money and had to borrow of my other half.

That's a great idea Hun.
I've been keeping cash on me lately too to last me the week and I think when u can actually see what you've got and what you've physically spent it really helps xxx

And that last £20 note for the week invariable lasts a whole lot longer than the first one because I want to keep it for 'just in case...' :D. I have so many no-spend days now!!

well i tried to sub to this on my phone but it didnt work!

I am still here and still stuggling along. I also cut up one of my credit cards this month - but it isn't paid off so i cant claim any praise for it. Still, there wont be any more going on it and I can just pay it off bit by bit until it is gone! I will be moving it so that it stays interest free until it is paid off. Really well done to Pixie - that is an amazing achievement that i aspire to!

This month seems to be awful already but on the plus side i have cut down my xmas list and already bought some presents so not much left to buy! I am having to use my other cc a little which i didnt want to do - but bf needs emergency dental work and it just needs to be done.

Another bump in the road was that my overtime didnt come through with my wages like it was supposed it (about £600 worth so it would have been a massive help!) But I cant do anything about it so it is coming at the end of November - at least that will take care of some bills and what is left of my xmas shopping.

I have started my emergency fund but at the moment it only has £30 in it. Not much but i suppose it is something *sigh*

I have also agreed to work a few days in my friends dad's butchers so that will be about £60 per day and I have 3 days booked in so far. They also want me to do some more so on Saturday I will be taking my diary and filling it up with as many shifts as I can fit in!

I am meant to be going away next saturday for the weekend -the hotel is paid for but my friend dropped out and told me to take someone else. It is a hard decision but I think I am going to just take the loss of £30 (as it is non-refundable) and not go. If i go it will be money for petrol, food, drinks and xmas shopping. Now that my overtime didn't come through I think its better to take the hit and not go to at least save some money. (I can work in the butchers and make some money instead)

Anyone else finding it really hard to stay positive about paying bills off etc?! I am struggling to keep myself in the mindset of 'it takes years to get into debt and years to get out of it!' That lottery win needs to come soon (not that I have the money to spend on the lottery!!!)

I think your post is very positive Sparty, you've done a lot to work on looking after your money, you've got extra work, cut up a cc, not going away at the weekend, all positives.

I did go overdrawn last month but also had a lot to pay out for, not too sure how this month will pan out though, I've got a few more Christmas pressies to buy & then that will be my spending done. We go on holiday in 3wks so I'll soon start to eat 'what we have in' & not buy fresh stuff which may not get eaten, so that will save a few pennies.

Thanks happy. I guess I don't look at it from the perspective that I have done positive things to try and help but in the mountain I still have left to climb!

You are right though - I am trying to be as good as possible and can only do so much. I shouldn't be too hard on myself since I'm supporting both of us at the moment. (Bf is self employed and has no work at the moment but hopefully will pick up soon)

I dream of the days I am not in my overdraft at the end of the month lol. Can't remember the last time that happened! But imagine how good it will feel when I do! :)

Well work on Saturday was good - made £50 and got a good deal on some meat. I also booked in another 6 days between now and Xmas so that will be another £300. I'm going to use this towards bday night out (it's mine and bf's 30ths in December) and bday/Xmas shopping to helpfully give my overdraft a breather.

Sorted my overtime so that it's coming in November wage and will spend half of it straight away on the credit card before considering what to best spend the rest on!

How are you all getting on this month?!

It does sound good sparty.

I seem to have bought loads, but don't think I've spent that much, if that makes sense, I've bought Christmas cracker stuff & some Christmas pressies, but not overly spent. I have bought myself 2 dresses from that £5 website, but no other treats.

I'm hoping not to spend too much on food this month with us going away, I'm hoping to spend just what's needed to last until hols.

Only bought one xmas present so far :/
We dont seem to really be in the spirit of things lately lol. Money has been tight but we've been pretty careful so it has helped.
Sold a few bits on Ebay this week so got some extra pocket money.
Tomorrow we have a free night out too. Won tickets to see Micky Flanagan live in a VIP executive box with free food and drink. Gotta love a free night out :) x

Ahh that will be brilliant. Things are tight as always with us but I have a few Xmas bits so not much left to get and my overtime should be paid this month to boost my bank balance a bit

Bf's dad have us our birthday and Xmas money so we decided to take £100 each now and put the other £300 in a savings account towards a holiday next year. We are hoping to book something in the next few months and any other bday and Xmas money will go towards that. It's really nice to have something tangible to work towards!!
