What weight is healthy?

Hi everyone I was just thinking about what weight I should actually be. I am 5'5 and currently weigh 14st 7lb. My target weight is 10st but I feel that maybe it should be 9st because of my height. Can anyone help me work out what weight I should be for my height? Thanks x

Well you're BMI at 10st will be 23.3 and a healthy BMI is between 20-25 so i think you'll be fine (as far as these things go) The more important thing would be down to how you feel when you get to 10st, you may be more than happy and decide to stick, or you might feel like another 7lbs is what you want. How about just sticking with your goal of 10st and then just see how you feel when you get closer to it? x

Oh thank you :) I never realised how low the bmi would be. I think I will do just that, get to 10st and see. Thanks x

Never even thought of looking on Google for an answer but did just there. Can't believe I'm classed as obese :/ just seeing it like this makes me feel sick x

BMI isn't everything and is only used as a guide. It doesn't take account of whether you are male or female, whether you have had a child and the all important body shape. Use it as it is intended, a rough indicator and don't let the "obese" label bother you. By the same token I would set my target weight according to where I feel most comfortable or via clothes size. Personally my weight bothers me less than my ability to comfortably fit in a size 12 in the future. If you get to 10st and are happy then rest there awhile and review your relationship with your body. :)

Hi there,

I'm 5ft 5 as well and have set my target at 10st 10lbs, which is the very top of my healthy BMI range (24.9 or something!!). I'm going to try and get there and then see how I feel. I expect for me this will be enough - it is a weight where I know I felt happy in the past, and fitted into size 12-14 clothes etc. Others the same height might want to be 9st something, but even when I was slim and sexy in my early 20s I was never much less than 10st, so to expect to go much lower than this now seems unrealistic for me personally. But I'll wait and see how I feel. That is the beauty of this - you don't have to decide anything now and can set as many interim targets as you want until you get to the place where you feel happy.

Good luck!!
