August Money Challenge

Happy Holidays

Gold Member
Hi all, well another month is upon us, it will soon be Christmas, we need to up the aunty on this now me thinks. Lets get back to basics & remind ourselves of the simple savings we can make. Yikes I've got my 'mum' head on, lol

Okie dokies, it's worth remembering if you've got a credit card with a balance, there are plenty of 0% on transfer deals going on, and if you've got credit card purchases to make there are also some good 0% on purchases deals, I did this earlier this year with the flights to Cambodia instead of using my holiday savings pot I bought the flights on 0% purchases & have set up a direct debit to pay off the balance by the end the intro period ends.

I've been to Morrisons tonight & apparently they have the '£15 Summer Bonus' offer on, it's week 2 now though, basically you collect a bonus coupon each time you spend £40+ in store until 24th August, then bring 4 coupons each from a different week & save £15 off your shop & you don't need to spend £40, happy days!!!

Happy saving everyone:D

After last year`s fiasco, I`ve got Xmas already sorted.
Back in January I set up a savings account for it.
Maybe even have some cash left over.

We`ve got a holiday the first week of September.Hubby`s birthday in November.
Two more holidays booked for next year.
Really need to get sorted!!

I've been giving my friend £50 a month since Decembers pay to keep for me for Xmas :D
Have a 20p tin ..broke into it for hols spends and had £300  New tin started for Oct hols :)

Had a great surprise this morning.

We pay for electricity by direct debit with EDF.
Had to double check it.

As we`re low users, from next month our monthly payment has been reduced to £1!!
At first I thought it was a reduction of £1. But no!
The full payment is £1!!
Happy days!!:D

I think food is so expensive, isn't there a cheap family foods website, I'm sure somebody once posted something like that on here.

OH remembered to buy me The Sun so that's a saving, it will go in the holiday tin though for our Trans Siberian trip, whenever that may be, lol.

Was it approved foods?

What was the voucher for?

I want to go back to the days when we had corner shops and just bought what was needed instead of what we might want!

See we all love our food and different stuff which makes it more expensive I think.

Now I've got the taste for holidays I'm thinking the money I could save could be spent on holidays lol

It wasn't approved foods, I'd forgotten about that website.

It was £5 off when you spend £10 on meat & fish, valid until Sunday!!! That's £5 towards holidays :D

Crikey I know what you mean about corner shops, I always buy more than I went in to the shop for, I don't waste food but I don't always look at how much stuff costs, I just think if I need it I'll buy it, whoops!!.

Ha, ha, we're lucky we can go away when it's not peak season, which means my money goes further, I have been known to sulk in the past if we couldn't go on holiday, that's when I did my first Sun holidays from £9.50, now they are bargains and worth doing.

Wow that is amazing!! Is that permanent??? You must have over paid a fair old whack to get that!?!

Sorry, I should have replied earlier.
As far as I know, it`s permanent until the overpayment has been used up.
The only thing I can think of is thay we moved last October.
We were given a monthly direct debit payment of £54. We`ve been paying that ever since.

I don`t think our actual usage has changed. Maybe the metre at our old place wasn`t set correctly.
However, our old place had gas as well. Our current place is electricity only.

Hmm have done lots of Sun hols but not sure if with the lack of flexibility it's worth it overall but yes there were times we wouldn't have had a hol without them and the flexibility is more of an issue with the school hols, so much stricter nowadays with kids having time off!
