Anybody else in Germany?

Hi folks,

I've just started SW, I did do it before but the group was a bit rubbish so stopped going after a while, I live in a different area and this group seems much better.

Be nice if anybody else was in Germany so we could swap SW finds in German supermarkets
:D

i am in germany, bielefeld. where are you?

tracy

I'm just down the road in Gutersloh, Taskey :)

Hoping BBQ season kicks in soon so the SW lark is easier, not sure what's happened to the weather!

do you go to group?

Yep, joined last week. Not been doing it this week as I'd just been shopping but thought I'd join while my friend did cos she drives and I didn't want her waiting around for me if I joined this week.

Do you go?

yes have been going for about a year now

i am loving it. the naafi occasionally get the lean mince in, very occasionaly here in bielefeld so i stock up and freeze it. i find the stuff from lidl has very little fat in it, compared to markauf. i tend to use my syns for my food rather than treats so i syn my mince if i cant get the lean stuff.

optiwell joghurts are also free and cheaper in lidl/markauf - way cheaper than the naafi mullerlights

see you lost 2 pound, although you werent really starting it - well done :)

I drain all the fat after browning it anyway so don't usually worry it but want to try the Babybel burgers. Apparently Netto do a lean beef mince but I've only bought meat from there once and it was off so don't really want to do that again, I'll just use Lidl's and added a few syns to be on the safe side and also grab some of those yoghurts. Not that fond of yoghurt but they're handy for a sweet craving :) I've lived in Germany almost four years and never been in Markauf lol

You're doing really well on yours, good for you :D

thanks, i was born in and lived in germany till mum and dad moved back to uk, then i joined the army, married a soldier, both out the army now but living and working back here - love it. been here for 9 years this time.

i use all the german shops as naafi drives me insane (although i work for them as a mess accountant). we are just back from england today and i now have jam packed cupboards with proper food. i was like a kid in a sweetie shop (except i did not buy any sweets for me)

i love slimming world as it has taught me how to cook from scratch rather than popping open a jar. i actually really enjoy cooking now. my eldest is really underweight and my youngest does not eat healthy at all, so sw has also made me rethink how i feed them too - for us it is a lifestyle and family change for life, rathe than losing then next half a stone. i am chipping away slowly but surely, but i have promised myself i will never be as big as when i first started.

stick with it, and enjoy it, stay at image therapy if you can as you will learn loads from others.

I love Germany, it's a great country, it's a shame some people decide to hate it here before they've even arrived and set themselves out to be miserable.

We were supposed to go home a couple of weeks ago, first time back to London for me to see my family in almost two years, broke down on a Belgium motorway, was stuck in Belgium for three days, our car was scrapped - just the weekend from Hell and still didn't get to go shopping! I tend not to go to the NAAFI very much if I can help it, rip off merchants!

I have the problem that my husband is underweight so how do you balance it so your son doesn't end up losing weight but you're not cooking loads of different things?

They didn't have any Optiwell so I got some Linessa which is 2 syns per pot. Are Mullerlights free, my book says 2 syns for them as well.

I walked around taking photos of stuff like a loon haha

yes mullerlights are free, i think the linessa ones are possibly free too. are you on the facebook site for your local group - there is loads of help on there too

I live in Germany too :) I live in Paderborn! I love the Optiwell yoghurts as well as the linesea .01% milk! xx

our little group is growing :)

I'm not far from Mannheim and Heidelberg - Steffi Graf's home town, Bruehl, down in the south-west, in Baden-Wuerttemberg. My husband's retired USAF and works for the US Army as a contractor, hence being in this part of Germany. Sounds as though AAFES and the NAAFI have a lot in common! That said, I can get 93% lean mince, and other really lean cuts of beef, and there's a couple of ranges of fat free yoghurts (including the Chobani Greek ff yoghurts that are just heavenly!) that I can use.

Magerquark and 0.2% fat Speisequark are very useful standbys - think of them as unsweetened fromage frais and use them in sweet or savoury dishes. Knorr and Maggi do a good range of seasoning mixes and some dried packaged soups and pasta dishes, if memory serves, though I've never done a comparison against UK brands. I cook mainly from scratch and always have done since I started cooking as a kid. I don't routinely do a grocery shop locally as the Commissary is so much cheaper, and also carries quite a few of the local ranges (I can buy my Quark there, for example). Aldi, Lidl, Real and Edeka are the only stores I really know, and I usually use Real or Edeka if I'm short on something and can't be bothered driving the five miles or so in to Schwetzingen to the Commissary.

Should be off to Florida some time in the next few months, though, which is rather exciting.
