    Anyone in Scandinavia?

    Hi

    I am English and have been living in Denmark for just a year and it looks like we will be here for a very long time, wondered if perhaps there were other expats in Scandi countries doing SW - might be good to share tips/recipes with each other.

    Hi How are you finding it so far? It's been a bit of a search mission for us getting some of the right foods, but I think we have most of what we need now. The only thing I am finding a bit difficult is the amount of Birthday parties hahaha. I don't know if it's similar in Finland, but it seems to be an endless stream of them here with mountains of cake (will have to tape my mouth up ) Best of luck with your loss sunnyshine If I find any good tips or recipes with a Scandi slant, I'll post them here Have a great week xxx

    Hi! I didn't see the thread had updated so apologies for not replying sooner! I'm finding some things a struggle, mostly the lack of things like frylight and muller light yoghurts! Quorn is now being sold more widely, although no sausages yet. I've been fully on plan for 2 days now and I'm hoping the rest of the week goes well. I did some batch cooking over the weekend, so if I don't feel like cooking the dish on my menu I have meals to grab. Luckily not many parties going on here but I'm also pretty antisocial!

    Ahh yes the yoghurts were a bit of a struggle at first for me.

    There are ones in Aldi here called "Jogging" - they come in large cartons like milk do - and the ones I've tried are free on Extra Easy (I use the vanilla one for the oaty pancakes which uses the HEb) and then have some flavoured ones too. Lidl do some free one's in their "Milbona" range but am afraid am not entirely sure which - don't really shop in Lidl.

    The other free yoghurts here are Arla "Cheasy" 0.1% fat and they do flavours like a tropical one, vanilla, strawberry and rhubarb. There is a low fat fromage frais in Netto (don't know if Netto is in Finland - sorry) which again is free and another from Aldi called Nicolait 0.2% fat fromage frais - and that too is free on Extra Easy.

    Hope some of that helps. I tend to buy very low fat and calorie ones and then run it through the syn calculator on the website allowing for the free food allowance (just watch out for sugar content as I bought 1 yogurt which was fat free but loaded with sugar and was about 8 syns for the tiny tub! EEK!).

    Fry light wise - there are some "baking sprays" which are as low in fat and calories as fry light available here - tend to be either with the oils or with the baking stuff. Or Felippo Berio Olive Oil Sprays which are (I believe) 1 syn per 7 sprays - and a bit healthier I would guess Sounds like you are doing great with the cooking

    Sausage wise - if you are veggie, I think there are some places which are Veggie shops online where you can have Quorn and Linda McCartney stuff delivered- might be worth a google. Otherwise I make my own sausage patties with extra lean pork mince (and they're syn free which is a bonus) so yell if you'd like the recipe.

    Hi!

    We only have Lidl here They do stock really good quark though! I didn't realise about the sugar in yoghurts until reading another thread on here, but I checked out the nutritional info of a Muller Light vanilla yoghurt online and compared it with the yoghurt I bought, which was lower in calories and sugar, the same in fat as the Muller Light so I took it as a free food...

    I've not seen any sprays here, there is a butter type spray in the isle with butter (unsurprisingly) but I reckon that won't be all that low in syns. I'm not vegetarian but I am fussy about what I eat. And I really do try to be syn free/low syn as far as possible with meals so the Quorn sausages were great. I've never been a fan of Linda McCartney. I do actually use British Cornershop for deliveries of things I can't get here (like self-raising flour, I love to bake... :/ ) but they don't currently offer a chilled delivery to Finland.

    I'd love a copy of the recipe, I've never looked for extra lean pork mince, I've just never thought about it. I eat a lot of chicken and I used to eat a lot less meat than I do now (like pretty much only chicken or fish) so I'm pretty OK on vegetarian meals.

    This is the extra lean pork mince (under 5% fat) sausage recipe, hope it helps If you don't like your sausages too "herby" in flavour you can easily put less in

    This is for making with a pound of pork mince which would make 12 reasonable sized ones - you could either cut the recipe down or make and freeze some. The patties are syn free.


    • 1 pound extra lean pork mince
    • 1 garlic clove, minced
    • 1 tablespoon dried sage, crumbled
    • 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried fennel, crushed
    • Pinch of ground nutmeg
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 large egg white

    Just combine all the ingredients in a bowl mixing them well together, then cover and put the mixture in the fridge for 15 minutes before shaping them into round burger shaped patties and using fry light cook them for approx 5 minutes each side in a non stick pan on a high heat.
