Half a syn cake

I made my first half a syn cake earlier, and not feeling too great today and have just managed to eat the whole cake! Comfort eating without a doubt!

I know its only half a syn so why do i feel guilty?!!!!

Xx

Oh dear. Just because it's only 0.5 syn for the whole cake, it's not going to do your losses any good by eating it all at once.

The recipe for this:

1 tub quark
4 eggs, separated
5 tbsp sweetener
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
fruit to decorate

mix egg whites until stiff, in another bowl mix yolks, vanilla , baking powder, half of the quark and 4 tbsp sweetener. Add half the egg white mixture and whisk. Fold in remainder of egg white. Pour into a lined baking tin and bake at 180 20-25. mins. Mix rest of the quark with remaining sweetener and spread over cake when cooled. Top with fresh fruit.

Maybe I shouldn't have eaten it all, but I have had no other syns today and it was lovely! Whats done is done, I guess that technically I am still on plan!! tomorrow is another day!!

Think I'd have found it tough not to eat the whole thing too, to be honest. But it's not like you just ate 500 calories of sugar (2 chocolate bars) - you had lots of protein in those eggs and quark so that would've been pretty filling. :)

I wouldn't feel too guilty. If you'd made a quiche with those ingredients (bar the sweetener) instead of a cake you wouldn't feel bad about it - you'd have seen it as a meal (and if you put fruit with it, there's your superfree!). Doesn't seem so bad now, does it? :)

Thanks Lily; when you look at it like that, it doesn't seem so bad after all! Just felt wrong that i had managed to get througha whole cake!!! X

I'm Defo trying this recipe!!! Just joined today and then met a friend for a coffee... And some cake ? how do you syn the cake, it was an Oreo cheesecake, think slice?!

I'm going to be better tomorrow ?

500 calories is 500 calories no matter how its made up. As a one off you'll probably be fine but eating it everyday as well as meals would probably scupper your weight loss

I do like the 1/2 syn cake though (though my kitchen always looks like a bomb site after I've made it!!)

I was trying to address the fact that Amy felt guilty. Don't know about you, but when I feel guilty about eating something I sometimes think "What the hell!" and eat everything in sight. Guilt and dieting don't go well together. So the point about 500 calories was that it was better to eat 500 calories of eggy protein than it would be to eat 500 calories of fat and sugar. And increasingly, scientists are beginning to realise that calories aren't all the same. Protein fills you up. Sugar doesn't. If you eat protein you're less likely to eat more once you've finished. Sugar consumption tends to lead to more sugar consumption. :sigh:

Guestimate how many calories were in the slice and divide by 20 - that should give you a reasonable idea. You might even be able to find a fairly accurate calorie count if you look online. :)

Does it taste like cake. Haha very intrigued by this recipe I do miss having a fat slice of cake! Xxx

Thank you Amy :). I will try this. If I manage to find some quark!!

Tesco, Asda, Morrisons usually have quark - but it's sometimes hard to find in the stor - just ask - this cake is worth hunting for!!

Yes I've often done something bad and thought what the hell and gone on to ramming more bad stuff in unfortunately and I get your point about it filling you up

I havent made one for a while but really enjoy them and "try" to make it last 3 days
