    What to do with slow cook beef pieces?

    Hello everyone!

    I have two big packets of slow cook beef pieces that I found in the freezer today, having bought them ages ago for pennies in the Reduced to Clear section. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do with them? I'm really struggling to think of something that isn't just beef and gravy. (Actually, I can think of a lovely beef in Guinness recipe, but it's not very SW friendly!)

    I only tend to cook with slow cook beef pieces, on a strict budget! Shin is my current favourite
    Tonight we had a fairly traditional stew, used a maggi beef, red wine and shallots packet mix with tinned toms, pearl barley and veggies, delicious!
    Also chunky chilli con carne- exactly like normal but slow cooked beef instead of mince.
    Beef curry is always a winner in this house, and im sure a few weeks ago in a thread along the lines of 'family friendly meal ideas' Pete- username 'bilsat' -suggested a gorgeous sounding steak and ale pie filling sw style!

    Pete’s Steak & Ale (2014)

    Serves 4

    Ingredients

    1 Tbsp. flour (4/4= 1 syn per person)
    1 Tbsp. Worcester sauce
    1 Tbsp. Tomato puree (s) (sff)
    8 Shallots cut in half (s) (sff)
    150g Mushrooms, quartered (s) (sff)
    200mL Knorr dark beef stock
    440mL can of Guinness original (6.5/4=1.625 syns per person)
    450g Chuck steak, cut into chunks (ff)
    Twig of thyme

    Method

    Cook the shallots in a frying pan on a low light, sprayed with frylight, for about 15 mins to allow going golden in colour. Set aside.
    In the meantime, in a casserole pan, cook the beef to brown it, sprinkle the flour over it & mix well, when browned, remove the meat & set aside.
    Deglaze the pan with the Guinness, scraping the base with a wooden spoon, increase the heat & reduce the Guinness by half.
    Return the beef back to the pan, with the mushrooms, shallots, stock, thyme, tomato puree, reduce the heat to a simmer, cover & cook on an “Eco” setting (90C) for several hours.
    15 Mins before the meal remove from the oven, uncover & check the thickness of the liquid, if to thin increase the heat & keep stirring until it thickened up as the liquid is boiled off. Remove the thyme twig.
