Syn- and Alcohol-free Drinks

Tonight marks the third weekend I've sat here nursing a fancy glass full of something both alcohol- and syn-free; a side-effect of enthusiastically starting Slimming World and Dry January at the same time. It's going okay, but watching the OH polish off a bottle of wine does leave me feeling slightly envious, hence my search for fancy drinks that (a) make me feel somewhat like Lauren Bacall whilst sipping at them, and (b) are both syn- and alcohol-free.

Anyway, tonight's solution is:

Lemon and Ginger Pressé

  • juice of 4 lemons, juiced and sieved to remove seeds
  • shredded lemon rind (to taste)
  • a thumb's-worth* of root ginger, finely chopped or grated
  • 3 to 4 tbsp sweetener (to taste)
  • 1.5l luxuriously posh (or bargain-basement cheap) fizzy water

Et voilà — a chilled glass of spicy gorgeousness! Who needs red wine?

Any other suggestions?

Well, I always thought lemon juice was syns for some reason (like other fruit juices). Thanks for that, looks good!

Instead a drink in the evenings I often have home-made ice lollies, either fruit flavoured made with diet squash and bits of real fruit in them (I also think your recipe would be great for this) or low-syn hot chocolate made up and then frozen. Very refreshing! Frozen grapes are good for evenings too, but that's not a drink either lol...

That sounds lovely. Have you tried slimming world pimms? You'll have to trust me on this one as it sounds horrific but I served to to family who had no idea it wasn't real pimms!

2 litres diet lemonade
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 lemon, sliced
1 lime, sliced
1 orange, sliced
1 orange, sliced
Handful of cucumber slices
A big bunch of fresh mint
Ice

And sprite with crushed mint, ice and lime wedges is a pretty good syn free mojito

I'll have to try that - I love Pimms!
