Hello everyone

I have just signed up to this forum today. I joined slimming world two weeks ago and was shocked and upset to find out how much I actually weigh :(. I know I have done this to myself and I know that it is going to take me years to lose half of my body weight (10st) . It just seems like a daunting and unachievable task right now. I find inspiration from all of you who have done so well and have never given up so thank you. Baby steps to chipping away at this much unwanted body :sigh:

Wish me luck  lol

Kazzie

Hi Kazzie, have you done slimming world before? I started for the first time in March this year and have lost 3 and half stone so far have still got 10 stone to lose, but feel this time I will achieve it, it really is a diet you can follow for life, in fact my mother and sister sometimes wonder how I manage to lose weight eating a much as I do, I go to class Thursdays so perhaps we could encourage each other, if you ever have any questions you can usually get the answers from this forum, so good luck Someday x

Hi Someday

Its my first time on slimming world, but I did do weight watchers in South Africa. I have put on so much weight since I moved to the UK :-(. I nearly died when i stood on the scales. Wow well done on your weight loss so far, that is excellent and gives me some faith that maybe I can lose the 10 stones that I have to. My weigh in is on a Tuesday (which was today ) and i would love to be able to offer you support! This is my third week, how did you do in your first month? Im still trying to find my way around the site, I love to see peoples achievements and look at some of the receipes for ideas. What is your favourite meal? Lol sorry so many questions just need all the help I can get!

Hey Kazzie!

At my heaviest I weighed 16 st 7lbs and my goal weight (as I'm pretty short haha) will be almost half of that so I know how you feel! The awesome news is that even though it might take years to reach your goal, you'll be conquering small goals all the time and you'll feel and look smaller within the next few months, so what seems like forever will really quickly and there will be lots to look forward to in between. :) If that makes sense? I hope you do well and best of luck with it all!

E x

You will do it Kazzie just trust the plan. I lost 19 pounds in the first month, not suprising as at my first weigh I was almost 26 stone, last night at group I was 22.6stone. The biggest thing I have had to get in my head is just how much we can eat, in fact I have proved to myself the weeks I lose more are the weeks I have eaten more (increase syns not above 15 tho') My next goal is to lose enough that I can go swimming, I am too self aware of the weight to feel confident about going yet. Keep in touch xx

I think one of my favourites is the simplest, roast chicken hot or cold with a pile of slimming world chips and mushy peas, I batch cook a lot of things in the slow cooker, bolognese, curries, casseroles, mince beef and veg which I can have on a jacket or top with mash or sliced potatoes, I do prefer fairly plain english cooking.I just love smoked mackerel, but it has to be synned with salad, there are some good ideas in the magazine and on slimming world site xx

Hi Emily

Thanks so much for the encouragement, it really helps. Congrats on your weighloss so far, thats amazing! What day do you weigh in? Are you finding it easy? I am so cross with myself, I have been so good since I joined and last night we had friends from London come and visit and a had a few whiskeys and water now I am dreading weigh in on Tuesday. I need 2.5lbs to reach my first stone and wanted to get in within my first month but that seems unlikely now. What are you favourite receipes? I try and make things that are quick and easy during the week and on the weekends make more time consuming ones. How do you get that ticker thing under your name? lol

Hi Someday

You must feel like a new person after losing all that weight!!! Well done! 19lbs in one month, yeesh thats alot, im just trying to get to my first stone lol. I know exactly what you mean about the swimming, I would not even think about going swimming right now (unless I was guarenteed the pool would be empty and I was on my own lol) To be honest I dont think I am eating enough. My second week i weighed in i only lost a pound :sigh: i was go disappointed because i basically did exactly what i did the first week and last week I lost 3.5lbs so i am 2.5lbs away from my first stone. I am not doing any exercise though so might take a walk tomorrow. Do you go walking? Thanks for the food ideas and love chicken and stews so i will find some of the receipes online now. How is your weekend going?

You're welcome. :) I weigh in on a Wednesday morning at the moment but I'll probably change it soon! I'm really really hoping I lose 3lbs this week so I'll finally get into the 12 stones. Don't worry too much about the whiskeys! I went to London for a weekend once and had all kinds of naughties for 3 days and still managed to lose a lbs that week. As long as you're good the rest of the time, it's okay to have a treat every now and again! I thinking coming to terms with that has made my SW journey much easier. I know that between now and my goal weight there are going to be weeks I gain, but as long as there are less of those than the weeks that I lose then I'll still get there eventually. :) Some days are definitely harder than others though lol.

My favourite recipes are probably the salt and pepper chicken recipe, so tasty! I also love love love making burgers. I don't think I ever ate them before I joined SW but now I'm addicted lol. What kind of foods do you like or is there anything that you're really missing or struggling with? I might be able to recommend some good things! H

Hope your week is going well. :)

Hi Emily

lol we will see on Tuesday the effect the whiskey had!!! and you are right if this has to be my way of life diet then the odd whiskey should be ok. I really hope you get your 3lbs this week, goooooooood luck you can do it. I would love to be in the 12's only got a few stone to go (like 7 lol). I miss pies, pies and more pies! and Takeaways! I know, i know the most fattening things you can eat but i used to love them, no wonder i am the size i am!!

Hi Kazzie, had a reasonable weekend, I have quite severe arthritis and can do very little in the way of exercise, which is why I want to be able to go swimming. You could very well be right about not eating enough, my losses had slowed down and so last week made sure I had at least 12syns a day, far more than I have normally been eating, low and behold on Thursday club night I had lost 3 pounds, I think really trying to have trust in the plan is best, but it still seems incredible that you can eat so much, I have never known a diet like it. I'm going to have pasta and home made bolognese tonight with a side salad. Just got to lose half pound to get my 3 and half stone, I think because I have so much to lose I do not feel overly different yet, seem to have lost the weight waist up but carry most waist down, no doubt it will sort itself out. In the meantime dream about the clothes etc that I am longing to wear, and winter boots to fit my calves lol x

Thank you kazzie. I lost 4lbs this week so I'm finally into the 12's! Woohoo. You'll be there in no time, I have faith in you! :D There are some really good take away replacements! I used to spend a day making big batches of various stuff like curries or Chinese meals etc, put them into freezer containers that you get for quite cheap and then whenever I'd get home from work it was sort of like having a take away because it was already done! You could also make loads of SW friendly chips and freeze some to be oven cooked when the craving comes.

There are some pretty good pie recipes too! You can use the dry powder instant mash to make a pastry alternative or use filo pastry for a few syns! This blog is really good for ideas www.slimmingeats.com and also if you google 'Helen slimming world recipes' there's a really good website for recipes. It won't let me post it on here for some reason? Weird! :)

I've got 3.5 lbs to lose til I hit the three stone mark. I also don't feel too different yet but I have dropped from a size 20 to a size 16, I can't see it in the mirror though! Perhaps our brains take a while to catch up with our bodies lol.

Hi Emily, have been reading your talks with Kazzie, and noticed you said about burgers, this is something I have been fancying having a go at, would you please let me know which recipe you have been using. Its my group night tomorrow and I am hoping for at least a half pound loss to get my 3 and half stone sticker, I told Kazzie I would let her know how I do so you will most likely see it here. You are doing splendidly with your loss, reading yours and other peoples highs and lows really helps to keep me motivated as I have an awful lot to lose, but this time I will get there (eventually) will post again soon Margaret

Hi Margaret

Sorry to hear you have arthritis, its so painful my mom used to have it. Swimming will be great for you then. I borrowed the wii Zumba from a friend at work so gonna try it on the weekend, I'll probably be finished after 5 mins lol. I have seen alot of people speak about the 30 day shred dvd by Jillian from the biggest loser, not sure if I want to get it though because she almost kills the contestants on the show :p Wanted to wish you goooooooood luck for you weigh in tomorrow...YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Karen

Hi Emily

WOW!!! 4 pounds!!!!!!!! 11's here you come...Thats awesome! and down 4 dress sizes, your clothes must be falling off you. I lost 3 pounds this week, I was thrilled and reached my first stone :D Thanks so much for the site and tips, going on to have a look now at the recepies. Think I will cook some meals this weekend and freeze them thats a really good idea. I made the SW chips last weekend they were great, I actually prefered them to takeaway chips they were always to oily. Going on the hunt now to see what i can find to cook this weeked.

Hello! Thank you guys! Well done Kazzie, that's amazing! :) The first one is just the beginning and an amazing achievement. :) Let me know if you try anything good at the weekend!

Thank you Margaret and congrats on your weight loss, 3 and a half stone is a hugeeee loss. Not long until you reach 4! Here's the recipes for the burgers, I vary what I put in them a lot of the time but the base mix is always the same.

1 pack of extra lean mince
1 finely diced onion
2 beef oxo cubes
1 tbs salt
1 tbs pepper
1 egg

Combine everything except the egg until it forms a sticky and well mixed consistency, I do this either in the food processor or by hand (but it gets a bit messy!). A whole packet of mince normally makes between 6-8 burgers. In a seperate bowl, whisk the egg. Use a handful of the mince mixture to make a burger shape and then brush with the egg mixture to seal it together. Fry on a medium to high heat with some frylight until fully browned and cooked! I try and use a spatula to pat them a few times throughout frying to release any excess moisture.

I normally add paprika, bbq sauce and garlic powder to my burger mix and they have a really nice taste. The bbq sauce caramelizes the burgers a bit and makes them extra juicy. You could also try adding bacon or mixed herbs or tomato puree and basil or anything you fancy! You can also use any left over mix to make meatballs, I once used the mixture to wrap around small chunks of cheese and then fried and had with pasta and tomato ragu, that was really lovely! The best thing to do is experiment until you know what you like best and what you don't. :) Hope that is some help and good luck with your next weigh in!

Hi Emily and Karen, so pleased to be able to say I lost 2 and half pounds so got my 3 and half stone sticker, thats 3st 9lbs altogether, I am setting myself a mini target of 20stone by christmas I think that should be achievable then I MIGHT think of going to a ladies only swim session.. Going to do those burgers tomorrow or Saturday, not bothered about a bread roll but a plate of s.w. chips sounds good.
You have both done well this week see if we can all aim for a good loss again next. Enjoy the weekend Margaret x
