just want to ask for those of you who was very overweight when they started slimming world how did you plan your losses? did you give yourself a big target or aim a bit by bit or see how you got or getting on,
myself when started 2 mths ago was 22st 13lb:rolleyes::sigh: and i know i got long way to go so far doing okay lost 18.5 lb in 2 mths
and aiming get my club 10 then thinking to aim 2 stone at a time ?

I have a few stone to lose. It is daunting! I have resinged myself to the fact I'm going to do this for months and months - maybe even a couple of years.

I have a target weight but haven't set it at group yet as it seems so far off.

I break.it down into 7lbs then club 10 and further 7lbs. You just need to do what's right for you :)

I have just set myself a target for the end of the year, going on 2lb a week and starting 5 weeks ago i am hoping to lose at least 4 stone, even after that i will still have a lot to lose but i figure its a step in the right direction. have lost 16lb in the last 5 weeks so am more than happy with my progress so far.

If you look at my stats, you'll see that I started at 21st 2 and I really didn't think about a target at all, there was just too far to go. As the weeks went on I just looked towards my next 1/2stone sticker and was pleased to see my book filling up with awards. I am now thinking that I want to set my target at 12stone which is less than 3stone away. It's amazing to think that less than a year ago it was over 9stone away!

I think the reason that SW give out the 1/2 stone awards is that for many people the idea of setting a final target makes their weight loss aims seem far too unmanageable and daunting, enough to put anyone off! What mini targets you set yourself are entirely up to you, but I would recommend that you keep them fairly small to start with so that you can be buoyed up by your achievements.

Good luck!

I am quite harsh on myself I suppose with my targets.

I joined end of May last year weighing 21 stone 12lbs & my 1st mini target was get into the teens, I did this within about 7/8 weeks.

Next target was 3 stone by the end of August as we were off to Disneyland Paris & I wanted to be able to get on the rides. I think I'd lost 3 1/2 stone by the time we went.

I had aimed to have lost 5 stone by xmas, I ended up with over 6 stone loss by then.

I have always aimed high & up until that point smashed it.

My next target is get out of the teens, I have 19lbs to go :D

I initially aimed to be at target within the year, 13 months in I still have 23lbs to go. I will do it but as I get nearer to target it's one step forward & 2 steps back!

What am I trying to say? Who knows! We're all different.

Hi do any of you have food diaries? I have loads to lose too but it's so slow this time round and I'm getting really disheartened with it all, some of your loses are fab and I'd love to see if there's anything your doing that may help me? I'm on my phone so would really appreciate it if you could post any links to food diaries? Xxx

I started at 27st 8.5lb and didnt have any goal at all. 2 stone would be way too much for me to have aimed for I think, but its different for everyone. I broke it down into the tiniest goals - the next half stone award, the next time the scales roll from one stone-zone to the next, my Club 10, sticking to the plan for the longest Id ever managed, losing the weight of an x (whatever x, you choose it), the next BMI rollover change etc etc etc. I still do it this way and I still dont have an end goal as I never expect to be a "healthy" weight but anything is better than what I started at. As soon as I set a distant goal it might seem unachievable and make me give up.

I didn't really have any expectations when I started. As I had failed so often before I expected to this time as well, so just sticking to the plan was a big achievement! As time has gone on I've got slightly more goal focused - the impetus to move down a stone bracket or into a new dress size has been very motivating. Good luck with your losses x

wow im amazed by your losses i will get my club 10 then after that will aim a stone at a time but realistically at 5ft 9 want to get to at least 14 stone then see how i go from there

Hi,
What's working for me is the 7lb targets....
I started at 26st 12lb & with a blip last week due to holiday I'm at 23st 8lb, so 46lb in 15weeks.
I am 3lb from my next 7lb....
I also have longer term targets like a weight for my birthday, weight for Christmas, a date I want to hit Target by & an event I want to be fit enough to compete in.
Having short & long term targets will help with focus, treat yourself to something you enjoy each time you reach your long term targets!!

I enjoy buying new clothes in smaller sizes & selling or giving old clothes to charity shops!!

Good luck & welcome to the road to a healthy weight!!

I started 2 years ago weighing 22stone exactly. I made myself a spreadsheet up with LOADS of different goals - 5% of my body weight, half stones, BMI ranges, big chunks (25lb 50lb 75lb etc) and it worked a treat, I always had a small goal to aim for.

BUT when I got to 5 and a 1/2 stone off I told people I was half way there and it all went wrong, I think because I just couldn't cope with having such a distant target. I've wobbled for the last year, I got half a stone more off and since then have gained 2! I'm now at a 4 1/2 stone loss with no real end target in mind and have gone back to looking at the next little success - at the moment the next one is to regain my 5stone award. Hope that made sense!

Hi all,

I started out at 26st 7lbs and had an amazing start to my diet with SW, i am now on the verge (hopefully saturday) of getting my 4st award however i have to say i have lost focus somewhat over the last few weeks because of things going on in my life.

I am pleased this thread has come up because for the first time since starting this diet i feel i need some help to stay positive.

So from this point forward i am determined to refocus and get back to losing weight consistently.

As for targets i set my interim target at 4st when i first started out and if i do hit it this weekend then i think from here on in i will be focusing on 1/2 stone at a time with an end figure in mind of 18.5 st but this will be dropped when i get to that figure.

Good luck to everyone, shall we try to keep this thread going for encouragement for those of us in it for the long haul? i think it would be nice to have regular contact with people who know what its like to be really big!

yes i will certainly try and keep this going, how about we can all come here on weigh in day and share losses/ gains/ maintains?
it certainly seems a long way to go for most of us or some are already on their way so good luck to all and lets keep going

Unfortunately I don't know anything about spreadsheets but I'd love something like this. Could you explain to me how to do it?

I'm just taking things half a stone at a time, but I also love when I go down into the next stone bracket. Only a stone to go until I get into the next one!

Hi all. I also have plenty to lose about 7 stone and have only made a 16.5lbs dent in that so far so plenty to go. First of all am just focusing on getting to my club 10 and then will just focus on getting into each stone bracket.

I have to have something small go focus on otherwise it just seems too daunting. I also find having challenges on here helps x

Sharing our goals is a great idea.

My priority at the moment is to lose 3lbs so I get both my two stone and club 10 awards! Would love to do it my my weigh-in on Tuesday. After that I want to lose another 2lbs to get to the next stone bracket...
