success without groups?

I joined slimming world on Saturday. I have to say that the image therapy really isn't my cup of tea in fact for somebody with low self esteem like me, its a worst nightmare. I like the idea behind slimming world and am wondering whether people have as good a chance of success without going to the groups?

thanks in advance.

Hi Donna, I've just started back (on my own) and have been inspired by the many success stories that I have read about on here. Just give it a go, I'm sure you will do well.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.

Hi Donna, I'm a newbie that has started SW from home too! Been on the plan for 2 weeks now and seen some good progress already. I've not attended a group ever, I'd rather just do it all myself however I can see where the group would help you if things were vearing off course maybe. I see no reason why you cannot be successful from home. I do keep a daily food diary and I also make a 7 day meal plan for the week ahead. I don't always stick to it 100 percent but it helps give me some structure and control in advance. I figure it will be good to refer back to your food diary if you've had a bad week, to spot where you went wrong and prevent that happening again. I'm sure you'll do great :)

I attended groups since 2005 on and off the last Time I went was a year ago and the consultant had gotten huge! I mean she must have put on at least 4 stone! Not much inspiration there! I find that regularly logging into minimins has helped me lots and to stay focused hearing everyone's losses every week! You can deffo do this at home and you have all our support right here :DX

Hiya I totally agree. I've been a member of WW and SW on and off since 1997. The heaviest I've been is 14st 9lb and that was only 5 weeks ago, I'm now 13st 6lb after only 5 weeks of staying on plan with SW and doing it on my own with no class. I like to read through posts on this site to give me support and ideas. You can do it folks :-D

Hi I lost a stone in 6 weeks last time and I did not stay to group but got weighed every week . I am trying to go it alone this time but I have made myself a scrap book of all the recipes from the slimming world mags that are free :)

That's a great idea katkins and well done on your previous weight loss. I used to have the worst willpower in the world, never saying no, eating the leftovers from my daughter's plate as I hate to see food wasted but now - I'm a totally different person I know I can do it :). Good luck with going it alone it definitely is a battle but there is plenty of support on here, I'm sure you can do it.

I never stayed to class either as I found we seemed to focus on certain people every week, and with it being in my lunch hour I got fed up of it and stopped going.

Hi

I have also started slimming world today. Also from home. A friend has loaned me some books. I have been trying weight watchers but I'm always hungry. My friend eats so much more than me and has lost just over one stone in comparison to my 5 pounds in 4 weeks.
I have just got to 10 13 and 1/2. I also want to lose at least half a stone before Xmas. More if I can.
Please help!!
How do I lose around 2 pounds a week??
Can I use 10 sins a day but add them to 70 over a week and deduct as and when I use over the week.
This makes more sense to me as I may eat less one day but more another depending on the day.
Also need to pull finger out and try and exercise daily.
Tips please.

I've never been to group and I'm going it alone. My mum went to group but it wasn't really for her. Being a member of this site is just like going to group though due to all the support.

Hi KLS I used to do WW but I also found myself being constantly hungry, SW is so much better.

I have been following the plan myself at home I found class never helped me. I have now lost 1 and a half stone in 7 weeks so you can definitely lose 1/2 stone by Xmas. Try and stick to lots of superfree food, I have been eating lots of salads with a jacket potato or SW chips thrown on or fish, chicken or egg. Also make yourself some soup that will help you - my favourite at the moment is homemade tomato which I made more of yesterday and froze portions in the freezer :) x

I went to a sw group couple of years ago and another first starting the diet about 7 years ago, I now do Slimming World on my own and find using minimins also helps me stayed on track! I find it a waste going there to pay a fiver when i was just going to get weighed! I have all the books and minimins to help and I think I'm doing not too bad on my own!

I used to go the class with a friend but she gave up so i did too, big mistake !! now using the online SW site but this forum is great as yu get to talk to likeminded people for support

I'm sure you can do it without going to class, but I enjoy it personally. Seeing how everyone is doing, getting ideas and recipes, being able to ask consultants question and generally just coming out feeling really positive and feeling like I can do it! I think if I gained weight then didn't stay to class I would just end up feeling miserable and would end up in a downwards spiral. It's ok if you're losing it's the times you gain it's best to stay to class.

Edit: just realised this is a really old thread, but I think it's still valid points :p
