Disheartened - exercise and SW

Hello

I'm just back from my weekly WI and I've gained 1/2 lb, despite sticking to the plan and going to spin class 3 times this week.

This is my second week on SW, bringing my total weight loss to a an extremely disappointing 1/2lb.

I have lost far more previously on SW. However, I am now going to the gym regularly.

Does anyone have care to share their experience regarding SW and exercise? I'm feeling really disheartened with SW and feel like throwing in the towel.

It can get disheartening. I've not done any exercise for about a month due to an operation and, even though the scales say I've lost weight, my body feels heavier and more flabby

Don't forget that whilst working out your muscles will be getting stronger, muscles weighs more than fat. If the scales aren't moving I'm pretty sure your measurements will be changing :) Don't be disheartened, be happy!!! :D

As Cherry Darling has said, muscle weighs more than fat. Also I have heard that when you exercise, your body retains water to aid with the repairation of your muscles.

Don't give up! Are you drinking enough water? It really makes a big difference. Has your consultant given you feedback on your food diaries? I know the plan has been tweaked over the years so it may have changed since you were last on it.
I remember restarting after the extra easy days were introduced but as I'd done it before i didn't read the books, just started 'blind'. My losses were very small, then non existent with gains as well. My consultant wasn't very good and I got no feed back from her.
My sister was doing SW at the time and going great guns. We sat down and went through everything and the main problems were

1) not enough fluid
2) not enough super free food
3) not counting syns correctly- some values had changed, some foods that used to be free were no longer
4) skipping on healthy extras.

Once I got my head around it again and relearnt the plan, things seemed to work. I hope you get to the bottom of what is the problem. Don't give up!!! Xx

Don't worry - the most likely explanation for this slow loss is that your muscles are retaining water in order to repair themselves!

It might help if you can look at your weight loss on a monthly basis rather than getting too tied into the weekly losses - oh and take your measurements, this is where you will see differences over the months.

Don't give up.

Take some measurements now so that you can track them each week along with your weight losses. This way if you only have a small loss you can check to see if you have lost inches.

A couple of weeks ago I had a 1lb gain which I was gutted by but during the same week I had lost 1/4in from my chest, 1/4in from my waist and 1/4in from my hips. So even though I had gained weight, my body was definitely slimmer.

i agree with everything said. last week i STS but had reduced in my measurements because of the excercise. i'm trying to focus on how I look as well as how much i weigh:)
