Onwards and Downwards!
Well Week One of my SW journey is complete so I thought it might be useful to write about how I felt this week and about issues which may sabotage my efforts!
My week started off on a Thursday I had class in the morning and it was daunting walking in through those doors but I'm glad I got it over and done with and don't feel so nervous about going anymore, lots of people all there for the same reason after all.
My first big test was later that day having to start work at 2pm, having only just learned about the extra easy plan, free options and syns I had no idea what to eat before I began work so I ended up having some Slim-a-Soup and and apple and banana. Luckily work wasn't as busy as usual and I managed to contain my hunger til I was finished and could then have a walk around the shop to buy free foods and think about supper. (advantage of working in a supermarket I guess!) Later that night I had a massive plate of Stir Fried Chicken and Vegetables with Blue Dragon Sweet and Sour Sauce. I couldn't believe the amount of food I'd made for myself and began to panic that it was far too much for me to lose weight but I checked the guide book and sure enough it said "eat as much as you like" of free foods so as long as I kept the syns counted I ate til I was full and even left food on my plate.
Once I had mastered the rules the rest of the week seemed quite easy. I tended to use my healthy extras exclusively for breakfast (Weetabix and Milk) eat lunches and dinners that were nearly or entirely free foods and if at the end of the day my Syn value was under 5 I would then treat myself to a weight-watchers choc caramel wafer (or two if the syns permitted!) Amazing being able to eat those wafers on a diet. Just before bed is a danger time for me for snacking so to have those wafer and for it to be "allowed" it's a total Godsend!
Another godsend was that I was still allowed to drink my favourite Pepsi Max - I know it's calorie free anyway but previous diets have banned all fizzy drinks and as I love them so much I do struggle with it. I have found myself upping my intake of water naturally too since fruit juice has syns in it and you find yourself thinking "no I'll choose something syn free and keep those for later/dinner"
My dad also struggles with his weight and I've noticed that he's been trying to tempt me into eating unhealthily by for example, offering me some of his chinese food tonight or by asking me to cook unhealthy food for him late at night, the smell of which can get to me pretty bad - my dad is disabled so can't do this for himself and if I go downstairs at all after 9pm I get asked to make something. So I'm staying upstairs at night from now on lol.
I've started working towards my bodymagic awards too, walking the dog 3.8miles per day and feeling pretty good about that
The week did seem to drag in though since I was so excited about my first weigh in to see whether or not this actually works. I must confess that, as a slimming class virgin, I had only ever read about success stories in magazines before and when reading them had cynically thought to myself, "I bet it's all a great moneymaking con". But this past week has shown me that the SW plan really does encourage healthier eating and positively reinforces more healthy choices. The psychology behind the plan is interesting too, but so far I'm impressed.
I'm 5.5lbs lighter and looking forward to getting smaller
