Sharon's Before 50 Plan

On 04/04/13 I joined Slimming World. I have done it before but have really struggled in past years whilst looking after ill parents and a stressful job to do more than lose more than about 2 stone then regain, lose again etc. every time I tried to start again I'd either get viral illnesses or be dealing with hospital admissions or care home issues. Sadly they both passed away within 3 months of each other in early 2011 and then had their home to clear etc upshot being I lost a bit gained a bit as you do. Next year 25/03/14 will be my 50th birthday and we also have a family wedding on 28/03/14. A friend and I joined together and I was thinking even two stone would be good - I really could do with losing around 5 stone plus from my start weight but a smaller aim first. Having said that three weeks in I lost 10lbs and can feel it, loving the food and trying some great recipes (spicy chicken recipe and meatball pasta on current SW mag I can highly recommend, diet coke chicken is also amazingly good). Week four weigh in is tomorrow evening though scale hop (ok I know I shouldn't have) I'm not sure if I've lost this week .... Will let you know, but I am sticking with it and doing the time. Last week I worked out 1lb to Xmas would be 2 st 7 and 2 lbs would be 5 stone so best foot fwd and see if I can finally shift it all to reveal the inner me :) would be lovely to start and complete the journey and end up with a real WOW factor. The last time I was even close to my ideal weight I was in my 20s so it's been sat there a while now. So start weight was 17 stone 9, last week was 16 st 13 so 10lbs off in first 3 weeks - whoop. I want to at least reach 12 stone maybe a little less but it's been so long I really won't know until I can knock at the door and say hey this is me!

Hi Sharon Sorry to hear about your parents it must have been awful for you and completely understandable that you gained some weight at such a stressful time Congrats on your 10 lbs loss thats fantastic Im delighted for you Best of Luck with the rest of it xx

I know thats very disheartening for you Sharon but keep the chin up I'm sure it'll show next week when you've tried so hard That happened to me last week I was so good and I gained a pound so Im hopin Im down something by Saturday

Hi Sharon I won't be home tomorrow so I had to weigh myself a day early and I'm down 3 lbs since lastweek so I'm sure that you'll be down a few next week too :)

You have him well trained lol Yea its alot easier to stick to a diet when the results start showing It'll definitely pay off for you next week Enjoy your weekend off :)

Good luck Sharon - it sounds like you are focused and have realistic expectations, so you will succeed, despite small blips on the way!

I had two weeks in a row where I gained after being 100% on plan - very disheartening. My consultant suggested trying a few red/green days and upping my syns a bit - to an average of 10 a day - and it worked. Just experiment a bit and find out what suits you best.

Which curry are you cooking? I've got the Asia cookbook and have made five or six dishes from it - all fab!

Ok we'll today we are doing our first BBQ of the year as my son is home from uni for the weekend. I've made homemade burgers with a babybel light in the centre, doing risotto from the current SW mag and some sticky chicken skinless drumsticks, chicken/pepper/courgette/onion skewers and mixed salad - wholemeal roll from HEX :). Must admit am looking fwd to it. I've also made some homemade humus - again current SW mag. Hubby has lost another 1.5 lbs this week so 9 llbs total for him and 9.5 lbs for me even with the unexpected 0.5 blip this week. Jeans are feeling more comfy so all good and I'll see the fluid blip disperse next Thurs with a two week weight loss.

My sister thinks I'll cave at some point and give up on the way but I'm determined to stick with it and achieve as much as possible before my 50th next year and buy a wonderful dress to turn heads for our family wedding 3 days after my 50th in March 2014 - watch this space :)

Hi, Sharon! I chanced upon your posts whilst browsing and thought I'd say hello. :) My diary, that I admittedly don't update very often, is called Tracy's Countdown to the Big 5-0, so you can see why I was drawn to yours, lol. My countdown is now over - I was 50 last July AND my nephew got married 10 days before that, so I too had that double incentive to lose weight! I did have more to lose than you, 9-10 stone, and knew I couldn't do it all in the 11 months I had before the two events, but I shifted about 5.5 stone by then, and now just over 8 stone. I'm not on SW though, I'm a calorie counter, lol. I can also empathise very much with your problems with your parents. My Mum had Parkinson's for years, then related dementia, and she died last December, and my Dad has diabetes, heart problems and prostate cancer but is plodding on - it's really hard, isn't it?

Anyway, now subscribed to your diary, so I'll cheer you on from the sidelines, if that's ok, as I continue with my own ever-slowing journey towards my goal! :) xxx

Hi Tracy. Thank you for your lovely message. You've done fantastically well and yes can see where my aim is very common to the one you had. My stepfather who, we lost in Feb 2011 had Parkinson's with dementia, eventually necessitating 24/7 nursing home care, which brought it's own battles to fight and fight for him we did. Mum had heart problems, diabetes and kidney failure which moved very fast unexpectedly in the last two stages and we lost her April 2011. I did lose a bit with SW that autumn but then for various reasons slipped but held some of that off so 9.5 lbs lighter from four weeks ago but holding off 19.5 lbs from 2011. It is so hard when you lose loved ones hey. Will have to hunt to find your diary and the support is appreciated so thank you :) As I'm new I currently only have limited user privileges.

Hi Sharon, thanks for replying! :) I know exactly what you mean about fighting for care for your Mum, we had a similar situation, and bad hospital experiences towards the end of her life and we fought for end of life care at home. All very draining.

I wouldn't bother too much with my diary, I'd be the first to admit I'm rubbish at it, but I suppose it does have a few photos and the odd update, lol. It's in Other Diet Options/Orlistat/Xenical Diaries, or it may be easier to look on my profile under threads I've started, if you can (sorry, can't work out how to link to it here on the app, lol).

Take care! :) xx
