Hi

I'm Bev, age 27 and I currently weigh 23 st 10lbs -!!! I joined Slimming World yesterday and am slowly starting to change my eating habits, increase my exercise and get more out of life. I'm hoping/dreaming to start a Radiography degree next September and in order to get onto the course I need to lose weight and improve my fitness! In the past I've tried to lose weight but not had my heart in it, I've tried to do it on my own without any support, this just doesn't work for me. My group seem lovely and I can't wait to step on the scales next week with a loss!

It's so inspiring to read all the stories of weight loss on Mini Mins, I hope one day if I keep this up I can be a big loser too, so I thought I'd join and try and keep a diary of my experiences. It's always good to know how you were feeling at certain points along the way, especially when you have a bad week and want to realise why!

It's early days yet but so far I'm enjoying the plan and making the most of the filling super free food such as fruits and veggies. Would love to meet some friends along the way too, and anyone in Sheffield would be most welcome as it'd be great to find a buddy to go on walks with!

About to set off to the swimming pool for the first time this year! To be honest i'm dreading the walk of shame from the changing room to the pool but once i'm in the water I know i'll enjoy every minute of it!

Hi Bev, welcome to Mini's and to SW. I'm sure you'll love it.

Well done on braving the pool, that walk puts the fear into most people, me included! x

Hi Bev

Welcome! Glad you are enjoying SW so far, I don't have as much to lose as you but for a good decade have been constantly on diets and constantly feeling guilty about food. I'm on week 3 and am already feeling like this is the plan that will help me conquer my demons which I thought I'd have to live with forever.

Have fun discovering all the food you can have and recipes to try - we are all here to help!

Good luck on your journey and a massive well done for braving the pool.
If you're anything like me you always worry people will stare, yet when I go there no one gives a monkeys about me :) such a good relaxing way to exercise

Xx

Thanks Bev, Xena and Amber! :)

I'm on day 5 so far and I'm still feeling great. Really enjoyed my swim in the pool, was terrified that people would stare but everyone just got on with swimming. Besides even if someone did stare at me, I'm in the swimming pool obviously trying to lose weight, so I just figure it's their problem and not mine!

Started my new job yesterday, I need some care experience in order to apply for the Radiography degree so I've got a job at a care home for the year while I study my open university course. It's completely different to anything I've done before, mainly call centre stuff but it was lovely getting to know the residents. well, most of them! One old lady in particular was having a bad day and was screaming insults at everyone, I happened to walk past her and bear the brunt of her anger, she called me "a disgrace with no figure" and said I had a "fat bum". Of course I laughed it off, yes I do have a fat bum but I'm doing slimming world and getting healthier... but yeah, inside it still hurt. And although today is my day off, I'm still thinking about that cruel comment! She's a 90 year old woman for God's sake, I need to get some perspective! Of course the rest of the residents were lovely, but it kinda put a dampener on things! :( Still I'm not going to let it stop me getting settled in my new job, colleagues seemed lovely and it's only 4 x 7 hour shifts a week (either 8-3 or 3-10) so will leave me plenty of time to do my studies and concentrate on getting fit!

Anyway, my day off today, going to go out for a walk this afternoon to burn some calories, no mean feat for me considering I was on my feat for 7 hours yesterday! Feet still ache a little but I've got some really good shoes from Hotter, they were £60 but completely worth it as so comfy when you're on your feet all day!

Only 3 more sleeps till weigh in on Tue, I swapped my morning shift for an afters so I can go to the same group, will be nice to make some new friends so I'd like to stick with the same group!

Aw you were right to brush off the comments of that lady, you know deep down that you're making the effort to get to where you want to be, and I'm sure she had no idea what she was saying. The job sounds good, my sister in law works in a care home and says it's very hard work and very stressful sometimes but she loves it.

Enjoy your walk today x

Thanks Bev, I know you're right and she didnt know what she was saying. I think since joining SW i'm even more conscious about my weight if that makes sense, but being as I'm doing something about it already I'm going to just ignore the comments. Decided I'm gonna turn it around so having old ladies telling me how fat I am is motivation! Will be great when I see her in six months or so when I'm skinny! x

Popping in to subscribe! :)

I completely understand what you're saying in terms of being more conscious about your weight now you're doing SW - it's very easy to turn a blind eye to yourself in a way, when you're not dieting, but when you make that brave decision to do something about your weight you are very aware of it and how you look! I find I'm now looking at myself more because I'm trying to work out if I look any different, but it just makes me even more aware of the problem areas! BUT - as you say - when you're doing something about it, it doesn't matter what people say. Because you know that you're in control, and that's the important thing!

Hey welcome. I started slimming world 5 weeks ago and have lost 19.5lb in that time. I had a start weight of 22st 5lb my target is 10st 7lb. good luck with your journey xx

Flix - You hit the nail on the head with that one, before I started SW I just turned a blind eye to my size. Although I knew I needed to lose weight it was like I'd chosen to ignore my body rather than confront it. Now every day when I look in the mirror I see my body like it really is, and because it isn't the way I like it the little barbs and comments hurt more. It doesn't even have to be a comment from someone, for example when I sit in a chair with arms and it's a bit tight it's just yet another reminder of my size, and how much i'd like to change it. At the end of the day though there are 2 ways to deal with it i guess:

a) Get really upset
b) Use it as motivation to change

I'm going with b) and trying to store up every bit of negativity for when I hit the pool so I can take my frustration out on the water! Oh and congrats on your loss so far, you're doing great! :)

ican - wow! You're doing so well, it's amazing what can be achieved in 5 weeks! I'm actually really looking forward to my weigh in on Tuesday now, can't wait to step on those scales and see the change in me!

Hi Ladies

First of all, well done on taking those steps. I am a struggler and I love my takeaway food, I am trying to be a lot better, and I have been doing slimming world for about 3 weeks now, at home. My partner attends the classes :)

This time we (my partner and I), have tried to make sure we have a good variety of food, as when we were doing slimming world last year, it was, chilli, spag bol, potatoes & Pork chops, rinse and repeat.

Now we still have Free Chilli, Free Spag Bol, but in the mix we have 3syn Carbonara, Free Chicken & Lemon Casserole, 3syn Curry and we are always on the hunt for more new things, to keep really varied.

Good luck on your journey I will pop by every so often and see how you are getting on :O)

Thanks lothaerna, hope it goes well for you. Takeaways are my downfall too! Me and the fella used to have them at least twice a week, now we're both doing it together its a lot easier. Variety is the spice of life as far as food is concerned. I've eaten a fair few salads but managed to mix the food up quite a bit so far. It helps that at my current weight I'm allowed 15 syns a day so encouraged to use them, I've not managed 15 yet but 11-13 a day seems to be my average, it's amazing how quickly they add up with the odd cereal bar and a couple of slices of wholemeal bread!

Been working today, my second shift! All the old dears were lovely and no more nasty comments thank God. I was really wondering whether I had it in me to go to work at a place like that if I constantly got put down, now it's only occasionally I can cope with it ;) I did the 8-3 shift today and really surprised myself by having the motivation to go swimming after work, despite spending the best part of 7 hours on my feet! So that's 3 walks and 2 swimming sessions this week so far, not bad for a newbie!

Food wise it's going well too: Today I had Weetabix and banana for breakfast, a small portion of chicken and veggies for dinner at work and my tea is slimming world chips, 3 fish fingers (5 1/2 syns) and baked beans, with a couple of nectarines and a yoghurt for dessert, yum!

Only 1 more full day to go before my first date with the scales, I've never been as excited to get on the scales in all my life. I've tried diets before and failed, but something really is different this time. I've never had this level of drive and determination before. It's as if something inside of me realises it's now my time to change, I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I know I've never had it before!

Just had a slimming world big breakfast - bacon, poached eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans, it was absolutely gorgeous! Proof once again that you can stay bang on plan and have some really good stuff without even touching your syns!

I'm working 3-10 today so got a salad from the Morrisons salad bar to take with me, don't worry, none of the bad stuff except a scoop of tuna mayo pasta which I've added to my syns for the day! It's amazing thought just how much bad stuff is in most of the morrisons salad bar options, so many calories in some of them, its crazy! I try and concentrate on tomatoes, cucumber, sweetcorn, beetroot and the oriental salad to fill my box up with as much super free foods as possible!

The SW plan never ceases to amaze me. I'm just annoyed that I didn't find it sooner!! Is it today or tomorrow you WI? x

Can't wait to find out how you've done!! x

Feeling on cloud 9 at the minute, had my first weigh in and lost 3lbs!! It's so great to be able to say I've lost something at last, and it's given me even more determination going forward. Group were lovely once again, looking forward to next week and seeing how much I lose. I can see this weight loss lark getting kind of addictive, it's such a buzz stepping on those scales and knowing this is actually working!

I know 3lbs isn't the huge loss some people get in their first week. I never expected loads as I've been eating healthier for the last couple of weeks before I joined, so all the water weight will already be gone.

I came home from group to my boyfriend cooking us a healthy spag bol for dinner, he's got the week off work so I'm making the most of it. Smells gorgeous too so I'm going to go and eat that, then working 3-10 again tonight.
