Wishful Shrinking

In 2011, I lost a spectacular 56 lbs in 6 months with Slimming World, going from 18 stone to 14 stone. During 2012, I fell off the wagon and put half of it back on (still better than putting it all back on), and so I am now restarting my weight loss journey, with the additional motivation that I will be getting married this year :love047:

I'll be doing Slimming World again, as it's been my most successful diet by far to date (WW was too complicated, food combining was doomed to failure because I couldn't imagine a life without shepherd's pie, gave up on Atkins after about 10 days because I felt terrible...). As I'm in Germany, I have to do it online without the motivation of a group, but this page has been a brilliant source of support in the past, and I'm sure it will be again. :grouphugg:

My eating habits during the day haven't actually changed all that much since I left SW last time, but my problem was and still is the evenings.. after my son is in bed, my habit was always to sit down with a cup of tea and a snack, which was all right as long it was within my syn range, and actually still all right as long as I was running 5 km three times a week, but then the snacks increased to bars of chocolate, and the exercise declined.... hey ho

Today is day 3 and I'm feeling rather rough - probably sugar detox. However, the chronic tummy pain and wind I get from fatty foods has disappeared, and my tum is already visibly flatter, so I can live with that.

Hey, welcome back to SW! I'm back too. Lost 4stone in 2012 and then let it slip last year and put nearly a stone and half back on! Determined to actually get to target this time! I'm getting married this year too - in May so not too far away at all - scary and exciting lol! When's your big day? x

This online community is as good a support group as any sw group could be! At least you didn't put all of it back on like you said and I feel your pain of snacking on a night, thats when I can't control myself and it gets abit out of hand. It's nice when you can see results already though, thats motivation. :) xx

We're hoping April, but we haven't been able to set a date yet! He's a Russian in Canada and I'm a Brit in Germany, the paperwork involved is just unbelievable... Still, at least when I'm having to concentrate on forms I'm not shovelling chocolate into my cakehole....

Oh God, I dread to think. Was stressful enough for me setting a date here for two English people in England lol! :p Good luck with that! Wow, April! That's close! *crosses fingers you get everything sorted*

Mind you, getting my divorce from the cockwomble I was married to for 13 years was even worse... it's far easier to get into a marriage than to get out of it... :(

Good food day today... :eat:

Breakfast: Honey Loops (4.5 syns) and milk (Hex A)

Lunch: syn-free chicken casserole. For this I browned some skinless chicken breasts and shallots in Fry Light (put lots of paprika on the chicken but you can use any herbs you like) and chucked them in a roasting tin with spuds and courgettes cut into bite-size pieces. Poured 500 ml veg stock over the lot, covered it with foil, baked at 200 °C for 45 mins, took off foil, swore on scalding hand in steam (this is optional), and shoved the lot back in the oven to cook for another 15 mins uncovered. Yummy, it was :)

Comfort food for supper: baked beans and bacon on wholemeal toast (hex B), followed by a tangerine. Tea and a choc biscuit (6 syns) after the little un had gone to bed. 10.5 syns for the day *polishes halo*

Been watching re-runs of the Biggest Loser, and am determined to get back on track with exercise. I successfully completed the Couch to 5k running program last time round, and I even started the Bridge to 10 k one, but ground to a halt last summer, when I spent 6 weeks in hospital with severe clinical depression (that's actually when most of the weight went back on - 2 weeks on Lorezapem and I blew up like a balloon!). Did you know that a 5km run (or jogflobble, in my case) can burn off 600 kcal? And honestly, if I can do it, anyone can. Brilliant, it is :superwoman:

Slightly brassed off today. I sneakily weighed myself this evening (although my official weigh-in day is Thursday) and found I have actually put ON a pound and a half since starting SW five days ago. Wtf - how is this possible? I lost half a stone in my first week last time round!

Today's menu:

Breakfast - Honey Loops and milk (hex A), this is my staple breakfast and has 4.5 syns.

Lunch - rice and baked fish topped with cheese and tomato (2.5 syns)

Afternoon snack - a banana

Supper - two small slices wholemeal bread (hex B) topped with lettuce, tomatoes and cold chicken. Fat-free yoghurt and a handful of grapes for dessert (0 syns)

"Betthupferl" (what we in Bavaria call a snack before bedtime) - cuppa and a choc biscuit (6 syns).

I hope these two pounds are just water and disappear before Thursday

I've been sneaky weighing myself and I've not lost half as much as I thought I would have, first time doing SW I shed eight pounds in my first week and this time round it's just not budging?? not doing anything different, if anything I'm being even less naughty. xx

You too?? I don't get it  Perhaps it takes longer to kick-start second time round? I do notice my tummy's flatter and I look less bloated, so something must be happening...

Do not take notice of weigh ins during the week :)

I read somewhere that our bodies constantly fluctuate and there can even be a difference of upto 5lbs within 24 hours just from water etc. Thats why we should weigh at the same time each week, to get the most accurate results :)

Honestly, I know how hard it is not to have a sneak peak. I used to do it. Ive done it before and convinced myself id gained when id lost at official weigh in, and the other way around to! Its dangerous because it can make us lose hope if you are disappointed with the inaccurate result, or it can make us a little cocky if we think weve lost and then "that one little treat wont hurt". Its not worth it, so I dont bother now! :)

5 lbs! I now have this mental vision of splashing whenever I take a step... :D

Wise words though, thank you. I shall banish the scales to the dust bunnies under the bed.

Yeah 5lbs is mental isnt it? Was quite shocked but think it just neans its possible, not that it generally happens everyday lol.

Just no point in stressing out over it whwn you cant be sure its accurate.

Think I may have found the problem - too much salt! I crave salt like other people crave chocolate. I cut it out yesterday and spent today peeing for England, so with a bit of luck I might clock up a small minus at tomorrow's weigh-in after all :D

Todays menu:

Breakfast: Honey Loops and milk (4.5 syns and hex a)

Lunch: fish and SW-style chips (2.5 syns) - needed a salad with it really but didn't have the time to chop lettuce and whatnot as I had to dash off and take my son to basketball training.

Afternoon snack: a fat-free vanilla yoghurt (0 syns)

Supper: Chicken, lettuce and tomatoes on two slices of wholemeal bread (hex b), followed by a generous handful of grapes (got some seedless red ones at the moment which taste delicious) - O syns.

Cuppa and a biscuit ( 6 syns) before going to bed.

Excited about weigh-in tomorrow!

Good luck for WI *crosses fingers for you*

So the worry was for nothing... weighed in today, and lost quite a respectable 1.5 lbs :D Wasn't expecting anything spectacular in the first week because I have only had to make a few changes (substituting Fry Light for oil, cutting down on sweet stuff and reducing portion sizes) - just goes to show that SW gets to be a habit.

Eating was actually rather an effort today, as we are all feeling weak and horrible with some kind of lurgy. Ended up eating the same as yesterday, with the exception of spag bol (3 syns) for lunch and a couple of Oreo cookies (5 syns) instead of my "Prinzenrolle" biscuit (6 syns) in the evenings.

Incidentally, I am staggered how hard it is to find low-fat products in Germany. I have to scour the supermarkets to get fat-free yoghurt, and beg friends in the UK to send me Fry Light :(

Incidentally, the latest series of Germany's version of "The Biggest Loser" started last night. My (12-year-old beanpole) son sat watching it and announced, "Ooh look Mum, you should be on this!" Thanks son..... :8855:

Seriously though, there is something I just don't get. In Germany, weights in TBL are calculated in kg rather than stones and pounds, but the participants were still getting the same weight loss figures, i.e. 5 to 12 kg instead of the 5 to 12 lbs which seemed to be normal in the first week on TBL in the UK. I mean, considering 1 kg is 2.2 pounds, that means their weight losses supposedly ranged from about 10 lbs to more than 25 lbs in just one week??? What the hell are they doing?

What's more, the trainers and training schedule seemed to be comparatively tame compared to the UK version. Mind you, they were at a camp in Andalusia... perhaps they are sweating a lot of water weight off in the heat. Even so.... 25 lbs in a week?
