New Year new start.. and getting slim for my wedding!

Right, well I’ve started a food diary so might as well start a weight loss diary too! :)

My problem has always been that I love my food waaay too much. The amount I can eat, I don’t know how I’m not a lot bigger/heavier than I actually am. I was always one of those people you hate that can eat whatever they like and not get any bigger, so I got used to bad eating habits. When I was about 18 I worked at a vets surgery so food was always very much ‘grab something and go’, I used to eat crisps and chocolate if we got a tea break mid morning, for lunch it would be a ready meal or I’d go to the chip shop round the cormer, usually followed by more chocolate! Awful really when I look back! It was when I got a job in an office (and have been in office jobs ever since) and was suddenly sat down all day that my weight started going up. I was a size 8 for years then all of a sudden I was a 10, then a 12… I’m now a 14 which is the biggest I’ve been – OK not massive I know, but fact is I just don’t feel happy. I’m short so any extra pounds just don’t look good on me – any bigger than a 10-12 and I don’t feel happy in myself.

I had my first baby in December 2008 and when I was on maternity leave with her I used to just eat through boredom really. I never really lost the baby weight from her and then I fell pregnant with my son who was born in March 2011. I joined Weight Watchers in summer 2011 and lost just over a stone, I started at 10st 10 and got to 9st 7. My goal weight was 9st but when I got to 9st 7 I realised I was a size 10 for the first time in years and felt great so I decided to stop losing. I went back to work in December 2011 and unfortunately that’s when it all went wrong again. All of a sudden I was juggling work and 2 children and didn’t have time to go to WW meetings, and of course it was nearly Christmas, there were lots of lovely cakes, biscuits etc in the office and of course it was that age old thing of “never mind, I’ll enjoy myself after Christmas and then be healthy afterwards”. Of course that never happened, I fell into old habits and carried on eating badly, was kind of in denial for ages and didn’t weigh myself for a good while! It was only when I realised none of my size 10 clothes fitted and I was back in my old 12s and was actually struggling to even get in them – I had to go and buy size 14s – and that’s what made me realise! I weighed myself and was 11st 9 which is my heaviest ever! So I’d put all the weight back on plus just over another stone!

I’ve tried a couple of things – tried My Fitness Pal but despite sticking to the calorie allowance each day I just kept losing and gaining the same pound every week. Lose 1lb, gain 1lb, lose 1lb.. etc. I decided to try WW again but joined online this time. I lost a few pounds but, I don’t know what it was – my heart wasn’t in it, I wasn’t sticking to the propoints allowance (my own fault I know), I was having too many ‘cheat’ days – I just wasn’t in the zone.

So after enjoying Christmas 2013 and eating far too much as usual I’ve decided this is it, once and for all – I have less than 5 months until my wedding in Greece and I need to get my butt in gear! So as from New Years Day I cut out all the usual crap from my diet and swapped it for healthy things. For example, at work is always a bad/tempting time for me – a typical day’s food at work used to be: Instant latte when I got to work at 8:30am, at 10:00am me and my friend would go downstairs to the café and I’d get 2 slices of toast (usually peanut butter/Marmite etc), a caramel latte, and quite often a biscuit/flapjack etc too. Lunch would be a sandwich or wrap from the café or sometimes a hot meal like chilli/curry, chips etc. Then crisps or chocolate. There’s always biscuits and treats lurking round the office so usually in the afternoon I’d usually have one of those! Dinners in the evening were 50/50 really, we’d have healthy things like stir fry or chilli, low fat curry etc but then other nights it would be pizza and chips.

So when I came back to work after Christmas that was it, all change. A typical day since then has been herbal tea when I get here, water throughout the day. Breakfast – usually a bowl of special K or porridge. Lunch – WW or homemade veg soup, packet of quavers, 1 jaffa cake. Then dinner in the evening as healthy as poss. I also joined the gym at the beginning of January so I am aiming for 3 times a week – I did that last week. I lost 2.5lb last week.

I have now decided to try Slimming World – I’d always thought it sounded too complicated but I went round a friend’s house last week and looked through her booklets about it and realised it actually sounded quite good. So I started that a couple of days ago, I’ve planned my meals for the week and have been shopping to get it all, I’ll carry on with the gym 3 times a week too and see how I do on this. I can’t quite get my head round SW and how much you can eat on it, I don’t understand how you actually lose weight (I think I’m struggling to get out of the Weight Watchers mindset where pasta and jacket potatoes are very high in propoints values and yet they are ‘free’ on SW) so I’ve half got it in my head that I’m going to gain weight this week. BUT I’m giving it my best shot, so let’s see what happens! I weigh myself on a Friday, so 4 more days to go. I’m doing to SW ‘extra easy’, the red/green days look too confusing at the moment and the extra easy means me and my partner and children can eat the same meals most of the time.

So let’s see what happens come Friday…

Oops I meant to add – When I weighed myself after Christmas I was 11st 5. Weighed myself on Friday after just over a week of healthy eating and 3 gym sessions and I was 11st 2.5, so 2.5lb lost. Hoping for a similar loss this week, I really hope SW works for me! I want to aim for 9st 7 again but am going to take it bit by bit – I’ll set myself a ‘mini goal’ of 10st 7 first of all.

Good luck hun. Pure determination and motivation will help you get slim in time for your wedding.
There's loads of good tips on here and they are great for keeping motivated.
Good Luck.x

Thank you :)
love your diary btw!

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning (I know, I know!). I really need to stop doing that because I know if you weigh more often then once a week then it doesn't really show true weight loss/gain. However seeing a loss gives me a bit of a boost! Although seeing a gain has sent me off track in the past so yep I really do need to knock it on the head.

HOWEVER - it showed 11st 1.375 (yes I'm being very exact lol) which is a loss of just over 1lb! Really hope that loss is still showing on proper weigh in day on Friday, with maybe a little bit more too, hopefully!

In other news, I got ready for work this morning and put a pair of trousers on that were too tight last week (you know when you can *just* get them done up but they look awful, and there's overhang? Not a good look!). They did up perfectly this morning. So something is working :D

Another gym session tonight and I'm dragging my workmate along with me too, lol. I've been emailing my wedding planner this morning and it's really brought it home just how close the wedding is getting - less than 5 months now. We fly out 31st May so just over 4 months really, eeek! It's got me even more determined that I WILL do this!

It's always fab when you can fit in something you couldn't before. I've got a lovely dress that I brought to year on NYE but it was a bit tight, so I am hoping I'll get in it on Friday night as I'm going to a party. I'll feel fab if I manage to wear it with confidence.

You're on the right track hun, keep it up.x

Ooh, good luck, hope you get to wear your dress! :) Just back from another gym session - time to quickly eat my pasta, jump in the shower then collapse into bed! xx

Hello there! Hope everyone is OK.

Today has been another good day, no more sneaky weigh ins but I so can't wait til Friday! I'm terrified that I'll have put on weight rather than lost it lol! I think it's because I'm finding this so much easier than Weight Watchers! With WW I used to really struggle, I hated having to calculate the points of every single thing I ate and really struggled to work them out when it came to cooking from scratch etc. But with SW I have pretty much eaten the meals I normally eat! (Just cut out the crap obviously lol). I made SW chilli the other day and my OH couldn't even tell the difference! Whereas when I made the WW one he wouldn't eat it, lol. I really really hope this works and I'll have a loss on Friday because I feel like I could really stick at this.

I've only had half a syn today so I'm even going to treat myself to a bag of maltesers tonight! Guilt free woohoo! I did have a massive chocolate craving at work today and so nearly gave in but I managed to resist. Just kept thinking of my wedding dress! OK it wouldn't have been a total disaster as I had syns left, but it would have meant I couldn't have any tonight!

Speaking of wedding dress - had a phone call earlier from the shop where I've bought my dress from, to book in my fitting! I had a first fitting when my dress first arrived but this will be the 'proper' one where they do all the measurements and see what alterations I need. Even though I don't want to have to pay out for alterations, I'm really quite hoping I need them lol! When I ordered my dress I ordered the size below the size I actually was at that point. So I'm going between being scared it'll be too small and scared it'll be too big! Lol! Anyway the fitting is 16th April so exactly 3 months to get to the size I want! Wish me luck eeek! :D

Argh, I really need to stop having sneaky peeks at my weight. Had another sneaky weigh last night and it said 11st 2 - so just over half a pound had gone back ON. I was 2.5lb at weigh in last week so now I'm really worried I'll STS or even gain! Why do I do this! I keep reading about people staying on plan and gaining so I'm panicking now. Hurry up tomorrow morning so I can do my official weigh in!

Just home from the gym, I really need to keep this up because it's really helping me to stay motivated with eating the right things! Mind you I did just use my last few syns on a cup of tea and a penguin biscuit - sooo worth it. I do love my little evening treats! I'd got 2 choccie biscuits I'd saved to use syns on today and I got back from the gym and my OH had eaten them - there was nearly a murder in this house!

Stop looking!! Hard I know but your weight fluctuates. I used to always have a sneeky peek most mornings but then I'd get disheartened to see it wasn't showing a loss on the day before.
I'm sure when you get on the scales to do your official weigh in it will be ok.x

Thanks :D fingers crossed for the moment of truth tomorrow morning, lol! I'll update once I've weighed.. eek!

2lb lost! Woohoo!!! :D:woohoo:
Of course me being me is now wondering why it wasn't more, I see others that lose twice that in their first week and I stuck to plan 100% and went to the gym 3 times. I'm an ungrateful sod aren't I lol! Think I just need to stop comparing myself to others! Ah well, happy with that anyway :)

Well done hun, 2lbs is fab :)
Exercise turns fat to muscle so any muscle you are gaining will be as heavy as fat so that could be why you didn't see a big loss. But 2lbs is great, you should be really proud of yourself

Thank you I feel better now then! Hoping to get to my first mini goal next week :D

This week hasn’t been too bad, will see what my loss tomorrow is like after our Papa Johns pizza takeaway on Saturday night! I did try to syn it but couldn’t work it out so in the end I thought sod it, I’ve stuck to plan all week, I’ll have a treat and then be back on plan tomorrow! I have then pretty much stuck to plan all week, there has been the off day where my syns have gone over 10 which I don’t really like doing (I know you can have up to 15 but I just prefer to limit myself to 10) but then I have tried to have a few less on other days so fingers crossed it works. I went to the gym Sunday, I miss Tuesday but went last night instead to make up for it and then I’m going tonight too.

I had a sneaky weigh in last night, grr I know I shouldn’t. But anyway it showed 10st 13.5 so that’s lb loss so far. I really hope that still shows tomorrow when I do my ‘proper’ weigh in (and I’d love another lb to be off too) as that’ll be my first mini goal reached, of getting into the 10st bracket! :)

Good luck on the scales tomorrow. Naughty naughty for getting on them before your weigh in day....I often do the same, lol!!
Well done sticking with it all week.x

Lol I know, I'm so bad for it, I can't stop myself! xx

Another session at the gym done! Now watching Breaking Bad munching on choccie - saved my syns :) roll on weigh in tomorrow!
