One SW day at a time

If you're reading back on this in twelve months time, Sally, and you're the same weight or even heavier then I am going to punish you. Remember your old diary and how annoyed with yourself you are whenever you look at how far you had come? WELL THEN.

I am making a fresh start, which means a fresh diary, a fresh CAN DO attitude, a fresh target.

Last year (2012/2013) I lost 2 stones following the SW diet and although it was a slow process weight-wise, I could definitely feel a massive difference in my wardrobe. I had a diary here and that really, REALLY helped me to feel accountable. I cancelled my online subscription in April 2013 as I had also headed back to the gym and was sure that I could keep up the weight loss through calorie control.

I slipped in around June and it's been a pretty steep and very slippery (due to all the fat) slope into me now being close to the heaviest I have ever been. Interestingly the weight has pretty much all collected around my belly so I look completely different to how I've ever looked - and not in a good way.

The weight has really packed on since January when I gave up smoking. I have used not smoking as an excuse to pig out at every opportunity.

I AM MISERABLE. I had to buy a size 18 pair of jeans yesterday. Today I tried on a skirt that used to be far too big for me and it was skin tight and I looked like a weeble. Barely any of my clothes fit me.

I have a hectic social life - I am out every weekend but I need to find some way to factor healthy eating into this lifestyle. I also need to start exercising again as I always feel a million times better when I'm getting the old heart rate up.

I have rejoined SW online again today.

So, let me get some goals down here.

My first goal is to get under 13 Stone. I weigh myself in lbs as my scales are pretty stupid. So 12st 13lbs is equal to 181lbs. That's 9lb to lose.

I will be 100% on plan today.

I am going to take this journey one day at a time.

Saturday.

I woke up as fresh as a daisy after a great nights sleep. I didn't manage to eat any breakfast though as everything I decided to have just sort of fell through. I couldn't have cereal because I was planning on using my HEXA for some feta cheese at lunch. No porridge in the house. No bread. Not much fruit. It was all a bit of a disaster!

After lunch I headed off for a facial which was amazing. I must remember how much I love having them and should go more often.

Went to the pub in the evening and drank lakes of vodka - I think I had about ten. That is ridiculous, but it's so difficult when everyone is buying rounds and no one will take no for an answer. I bloody hate diet coke though. I drank enough of it last night to put me off for a while. Bleugh.

Onto the food.

Breakfast - Coffee with almond milk (2)

Lunch - Butternut squash, puy lentil and feta cheese (HEXA) salad. (HEXB for oil in dressing)

image-3387595713.jpg

Dinner - Piri-Piri chicken with rice and cherry tomatoes.

Snacks - NY cheesecake muller (1), apple, 10 x vodkas (25)

Total Syns - 28. Whoops!

It'll even out. Low to no Syns today and tomorrow should flatten that off for the week. This is why I weigh on Fridays!

Welcome! I'm so cross because if I'd just kept going I would have been at target by now instead of having to start again! BAH!

Let's draw a line together and this time next year we'll be just fabulous!

Oh and I can't get to your diary yet as I'm still a bit off of the 500 posts - I guess I'm much quieter round here than I think. ;)

Sunday.

I managed to escape a hangover, which was VERY lucky all things considered! Had some brunch and then set about helping Ma prepare Sunday dinner for 6. I also whizzed up some jalapeño hummus but I went a bit mad and added too much liquid so it's a bit sloppy and VERY garlicky. I've shoved it in the fridge and I'm hoping it might stiffen up a bit. (Heh)

I managed to stick completely to plan (and clawed back the over synnage from yesterday) despite lots and lots of temptations - creamy potato gratin, gorgeous goose fat roasties, honey and mustard parsnips, gateaux, cheese and biscuits, wine....I avoided them allllllll! :p

Sunday's Food - Extra Easy

Brunch - Baked beans on 1 x slice of wholemeal bread (HEXB)

12742080715_3622d5ca33.jpg

Dinner - Prawn cocktail made with 1tsp seafood sauce (1). Roast lamb, celeriac roasties, roasted BNS, carrots, broccoli, green beans, gravy (1), mint sauce (1tsp so negligible syn wise). Strawberries and pineapple. :innocent0002:

Snacks - Jalapeño Hummus with carrots and baby sweetcorn.

I've just realised I didn't have my HEXA - I could have had some cheese after all!

Total Syns - 2

100% on plan. I am patting myself on the back!

Subbed! 2 days down and well done so far. I happen to think that alcohol is not food therefore not countable! Consider vodka as more an antiseptic so if anything you are now cleansed on the inside !!

Oh and well done for side stepping the gratin - nothing would have got in my way with that shiz!

I like your thinking on the vodka - by using this sort of mental gymnastics I think I can probably discount wine as well?;). I wasn't too terribly bothered about the potato gratin to be honest - it was the roast potatoes that called to me - they had gone all sticky and crunchy and fluffy on the inside - and then I looked at my celeriac ones and wanted to just throw them at the window!

Monday.

Oh the drudgery! Why didn't I win the lottery on Friday or Saturday? It's NOT FAIR. First day back to school/college for my two sons this morning, so I waved goodbye to my lie in - the mornings are getting much lighter now though so it's not such a desperate struggle to get up but it's still a wrench!

I did a little meal planning, a little reading through some diaries, a little looking at recipes and a little work. (That last one was a lie. ;))

I cooked the evening meal and because I was making something the boys will eat as well (and so didn't have to cook two different dinners) I prepared dinner for tonight - Greek lamb with Orzo  using up the leftovers from Sunday. Talk about virtuous!

I did have an ulterior motive, however, as my friend is having a party this evening ...yep, I'm out on a school night tonight. I really want to take it easy, so I'm debating telling everyone that I'm on antibiotics or something so that I can get away with just drinking diet coke (bleugh). :D

Onto the food.

Extra Easy

Breakfast - 35g Crunchy bran (so this has increased to 40g and I didn't realise until after I'd ploughed through it!) HEXB, Almond milk (HEXA), banana, coffee.

Lunch - Butternut squash and chickpea curry (2) with rice, 1tbsp mixed pickle (2). NY cheesecake muller (1)

BNS chickpea.jpg

Dinner - Cajun spiced chicken breasts, butternut squash chips, salad, corn on the cob with 1tsp butter (2). Raspberry "ice cream" (Greek yoghurt blended with frozen raspberries and SF vanilla syrup)

OK, so I know I should syn the raspberries as I had the audacity to stick them in a blender, but as I only managed to eat one scoop I think I'm going to let it fly. :whoopass:

Total Syns - 7

100% on plan today. I did a sneaky peek this morning. Very naughty of me but it's looking good - now if I can just behave myself tonight...

Greek Lamb with Orzo? Recipe sil vous plait! I am doing something greek lamby and I need inspiration!

Good luck with Mission Pub tonight!

Recipe pour vous! I tend to cook by sight/feel so I've put some measurements in for the spices/herbs but it's just a stew really, so you can add more of some and less of others if you fancy.

Greek Lamb with Orzo

Serves 4 at 3 syns per serving. (I usually get about 5 portions out of it though as I serve this with green beans and broccoli, in which case you should syn it at 2.5)

Note - You could leave out the EVOO and use fry light, and forget the feta cheese topping for a completely free meal.

Ingredients
1 Tbsp Extra virgin olive oil (6 syns)

1 x pack of Lean diced lamb
1 onion
2 carrots, Sliced in half, lengthways
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
1 carton of passata
Tomato puree
2 Cloves of garlic
1-2 tsps each of dried Thyme and Oregano
2-3 tsp Smoked Paprika
Cinnamon, 1 tsp ground and a stick
1 tsp ground mace
Pinch of ground cloves
1 x Lamb stock cube made up with water
A couple of handfuls of orzo pasta
Fresh oregano, rosemary and mint
45g feta cheese. (6 syns)

Method
Heat the oil gently and brown the lamb in a heavy based large casserole pan (you might need to do this in batches depending on how many you are cooking for).

While you are sealing the lamb, roughly chop the onion and peel the garlic (I’ve specified a couple of cloves but you can decide how much you want to add – it’s up to you) before blitzing to a pulp in a food processor.

Remove the browned lamb from the pan and add the oniony pulp to the pan with a good pinch of salt (to prevent browning) and gently cook until soft.
Add the spices and herbs and continue frying for a couple of minutes until fragrant.
Replace the lamb into the pan (and the juices which will have accumulated in the dish) and add the tomatoes (tinned, passata and a squeeze of tomato purree) stock (about a pint), the carrots and the fresh herbs. Bring to the boil and then place on the lowest possible heat and leave to bubble away gently for 2-3 hours (or longer - just keep an eye and if it starts drying up too much add a splash of boiling water).
After a few hours of gentle simmering the lamb should be soft and the sauce a little bit thicker.
At this point I usually turn the oven onto a low heat (gas mark 2) and add a couple of handfuls of Orzo before giving the stew a final stir and putting the pan, lid on, into the oven to cook for 30 minutes – or until the pasta is cooked; but you can leave it on the hob on a low heat - as long as you keep checking to make sure the pasta isn't sticking to the bottom of the pan
Make a quick mix of feta cheese, fresh chopped mint and oregano to sprinkle on the top of the stew.

It's a bit of a faff but you could bung everything (bar the orzo) into a slow cooker I guess and then add the pasta when you got home - or as I've done this time which is to prepare everything except for the pasta the night before and then bung it on when you get in and add the pasta.

My stomach will be well lined tonight at the very least!

Tuesday.

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

So the party was jolly good fun - until 2am - and now I am sitting at my desk - not feeling too bad hangover-wise but very, very tired :4635:. I did drink far too much vodka but I mixed it with soda and I also necked some water. There was a buffet of food which I didn't touch - I didn't even want to TBH as I'd eaten my dinner and was nicely full up.

Food for yesterday was good - a couple of little tweaks but nothing major (Apart from the vodka)

Extra Easy

Breakfast - 2 x boiled eggs with celery salt. Coffee with almond milk (Half A)

Eggs.jpg

Lunch - Butternut squash and chickpea curry (half B for oil - TWEAK!) with lentils (1.5) and 1 Tbsp mixed pickle (2).

BNS lentil.jpg

Dinner - Greek lamb with orzo (Half B for oil, Half A for feta), broccolli, green beans, cavolo nero . Vodka, vodka, vodka.

Lamb.jpg

Total syns - 30

I'm still within my weekly limit - in fact I've still got 29 syns in my back pocket - but I am going to do my best to not use them all.

Now, just to get through today without stuffing my face with chocolate!

Hey

Thanks for the recipe, it sounds heavenly!!!

Well done for side stepping the buffet too. ... you remember what I said about the vodka? Its antibacterial wash for the insides so it doesn't count!!!

And also well done for not swiping your friend about the head. Were they being serious, or trying to wind you up? I hate it when people say things just to get a reaction but don't necessarily mean what they say....

I cannot work out this multiquote thingy - I never have been able to do it. I think I might be a bit of a dullard...

Anyway - yeah, it was pretty easy to swerve the buffet, would have been a different matter if there'd been a cheeseboard! I'm sure my insides are now as clean as a whistle. ;)

Thursday.

I'm not too sure what's happening with the photos on this thread - it's a bit weird. Anyway.

So yesterday was spent feeling pretty exhausted for most of the day! I struggled through though without resorting to junk food to keep me going which is A Good Thing. I popped to Asda at lunchtime to try and find some of the BFree wraps which can now be used as a HEB option - I want pizza at some point next week and I've also got a recipe for chicken enchiladas - but the shelves of the Free From section were all sad and empty. :(

I had planned to make some soup for tea as I thought that would be quick and easy...well it wasn't exactly quick but it was delicious so it was totally worth the slight faff.

I've got a busy weekend coming up so I'm trying to keep my syns down to the bare minimum for yesterday and today.

Yesterday's food - Extra Easy

Breakfast - Baked beans and scrambled egg on toast (B), coffee with almond milk ( Half A)

Beans and eggs.jpg

Lunch - Lamb with orzo (2) with feta (half A) and green vegetables. Melon and grape pot.

Dinner - Red lentil and bacon soup (1.5). Delish!

Red lentil soup.jpg

Snacks - None

Total syns - 3.5

Right, I need to catch up on the work I didn't manage to get done yesterday due to desk-slumpage.

Hiya

I cant seem to see your photos! I saw the one where you gave me the orzo recipe, but nothing else since then. . .

It took me an age to work out the multi reply thingy too, I can only do it from a computer, not my phone, but by the "reply" "reply with quote" is a "+ symbol, hit that on all the posts you want to reply to and then the last post you want to reply to, hit the "reply with quote" as well and in the quick reply should be all the posts..

I'll give that a whirl - Thanks. No idea what's happening with my pics I'll have to do some mucking about, I didn't used to have these problems.

Friday - WI day.

6.5lbs off :bliss:

I am one happy bunny this morning - well I would be even happier if star week hadn't decided to make a housecall yesterday but I can live with that!

So I felt a bit rough around the edges yesterday, stuck to the plan 100% though which was pretty good going.

So onto yesterday's food. No photos as no one can see them anyway!

Extra Easy

Breakfast - Crunchy bran (B) with almond milk (A) and a banana, coffee.
Lunch - Red lentil and bacon soup (1) - Honestly this soup is unbelievably filling, I'd really recommend it for hungry days.
Dinner - Salmon kedgeree

Snacks - Lemon cheesecake muller (1)

Total syns - 2

So hooray to the weight loss, hooray to the start of a new week and all my weekly syns re-setting and hooray to Friday!
