    Oops, I did it again!

I went and started another diet...........

After years of different diets and weight fluctuations I joined a SW group in April 2013. I'd had a briefly tried SW before when it was Red and Green, and it just didn't fall into place for me. This time when I joined, there was EE. I'm not sure if it made life easier or my head was just in the game but I was hell bent on losing some weight. The fact that 98% of the clothes in my wardrobe no longer fit me (sound familiar anyone??) was a major factor, along with my growing waistline and cholesterol issue.

Fast Forward 14 months>> So after deciding to ditch the group a long time ago, I'm going it alone at home. I fully appreciate it's not for everyone and they prefer the group option. But I am stubborn as a mule, which is a positive quality in this dieting lark!

I've been mulling it over for a while now and decided to finally put "pen to paper" and jot down some of my thoughts and feelings, some diet related, many not necessarily so. Please feel free to join me on this journey.

    Scales - friend or foe??

So, love them or hate them we all rely on scales to gauge our weight changes. Based on what you see this can result in a great day to your worst nightmare. You can feel elated or driven to the fridge/cupboards/takeaway for a massive binge. Personally, I don't like them and I try my best to weigh once a week as in the logical part of my brain, I know that weight fluctuates all the time and there is nothing to be gained by jumping on them daily. Yet, frustratingly, the closer I get to my target the slower the losses seem to be and the more enticing it is to get on the scales to see if the diet still works. It goes against all my principles.

I have always advised everyone on here to measure yourself from the very start and keep a piece of clothing that is too tight. It's the one thing I always regretted not doing myself. On the days when the scales aren't your friend, then that tape measure or piece of clothing might just make your day.

So I'm wondering to myself could I stay off the scales for a month? This might just be my own personal challenge to myself for the month of June. I wonder if anyone else who is not at group weighs monthly, as opposed to weekly, or daily??

Hello and welcome along. No it's not something I would normally do. I have a mini challenge set for myself for the end of July (my 50th birthday ). A promise to myself that I will keep going at least until then and re-evaluate what I weigh and do I stop or carry on? I am following one of the challenges set by another member (lickthelid) which should take me up until the end of July anyway and that is helping to keep me motivated. Following the challenge we do weigh each week and post our results but I think I'm going to give it a try just for June. Because I have the luxury of following SW at home, I am not accountable to a 'membership'. However, I imagine even if you were you could probably weigh once a month providing you still paid the subscriptions in full, but I'm not sure it would be very popular!

    30 day challenge

    1 June 2014 - Day 1

Absolutely adamant I will not be getting on the scales. Today is sunny and warm and I've been able to get myself into a pair of cropped trousers I've not worn for a number of years. Plus a trip to M&S to buy smaller undercrackers has been a success!

I can't believe you are doing it. I'm so impressed. I would be a nervous wreck not weighing in for a month!! I wish I had your will power! I too bought smaller knickers this week woo hoo to the knicker reducers

I must admit so far has been a breeze but it's only been a couple of days and I only tend to weigh once a week anyway. However, when Thursday comes around (which has always been my weigh day) will I cave?? To make life difficult for myself the scales are sitting there looking at me in the kitchen. I think I need to move them (out of sight out of mind kind of thing). If it's a success I might try it again in July but let's see how the first month goes . I have to confess to wondering will it intensify the feeling of pleasure or disappointed dependant on what I see when I step on the scales after the month is finished??

    30 day challenge

    3 June 2014 - Day 3

So far, so good. No desire whatsoever to get on the scales. I thought it would be a psychological thing, once something is denied, you want it.

Breakfast - Crunchy Bran with milk (HEXA & HEXB)

Lunch - Ham, mixed salad, dressing (1.5 syns)

    Tea - Salmon, Rice, Sweetcorn

Plus, melon, blackberries, raspberries and Onken Yogurt and a cheeky Kit Kat (6 syns)

    4 June 2014 - Day 4

Breakfast - Crunchy Bran & Milk (HEXA & HEXB)

Lunch - Jamie Oliver Salad with dressing and Ham (4syns) - Guesstimation on the syns based on the back of the packet.

Tea - Roast chicken, SW chips, Peas.

Plus, Banana, Raspberries, Blackberries and Onken yogurt (1 syn) Kit Kat (5 syns)

Still resisting any ideas of getting on the scales. Tomorrow would normally be my weigh in day. However, I've wore a pair of trousers today that normally I would struggle to fasten comfortably, so I'm happy with that
