Ally's gluten free/semi lactose free SW diary

Ok, because i'm now having to adapt SW to being gluten free, I decided to start a fresh diary, start over.

Ok for anyone who doesn't already know me. I've been on slimming world since end of 2009, currently lost 6 stone 6.5lb battling again my own body which suffers from PCOS making it oh so hard to lose weight. My target weight is only 9.5lb away.

In late decemeber i was off work ill with sever stomach pains which went away...after 2 weeks they returned, I have been off sick from work since 3rd January, admitted to hospital mid january with suspected appendicitis, turned out it wasn't. Weeks came and past, test after test came back negative for anything. I was referred to a consultant see if he could find out what it was. In june i finally figured for myself that when i ate ice cream i was worse, so i cut lactose, the pain eased but was still there. The consultant suggested i be tested for coeliac (for some reason the dr hadn't tested me for it even though they were suspecting ibs (despite any of the usual meds for ibs not helping at all)), so after the test i cut gluten and have been mostly pain free since. But my coeliac test came back negative. However doesnt mean I havent got it.

I was suppose to return to work beginning of july but because of bad panic attacks when i thought about going back, i was put off again and referrred for CBT (which i still don't have an apointment for), although i have now figured the trigger for myself and working on it. Basically i am a web developer by trade, made redundant last august, but my new job uses a different programming language than i know and because i was getting stressed about it before being ill, thinking about going there again made me panic, so now i'm building my own website at home based around coeliac, so it will help in more ways than one, using what i'd use at work. And i think thats working, when i started i could feel the fear at writing the language, but now i don't feel as panicky thinking about it, so hopefully my method is working.

So anyway, i do have 2 old diarys on her but since i'm now gluten free i thought i'd start a new one, i have semi stuck to SW since cutting gluten/lactose, but only last few weeks i have done it properly as was struggling with all the changes.

Your story sounds so familiar to me, I am now gluten free (again). My pain started last July and I am still undiagnosed. I have had so many horrendous tests and drunk so much salt solution! At present i am gluten free again whilst waiting to see my consultant. So many timesIi have been ready to say stop, no more tests but I figure they wouldn't waste their time and money doing all theses tests if they didn't think they were necessary but its so hard to go back to eating gluten for each test to enable an accurate result. Hopefully I'm at the end of that particular journey with the result that I am NCGI non-coeliac gluten intolerance. Strange to develop such an intolerance at the age of 42.

After a year on and off the gluten I've put on a stone in the last year so decided its now or never to lose it once and for all.

Best of luck with your last few lbs.

Sam

The GP's have pretty much said to me that if not ezting gluten and dairy works than stay with it, and that it havent bothered testing further, I don't mind remaining undiagnosed though as long as it means the pains gone! I've been GF for four months and lactose free for the same and felt better after it but since going full dairy free a few weeks ago i feel even better, except for bouts of depression. Mine came on pretty suddenly too, until i realised stress can trigger it!
