Sw-Friendly Shopping (Noob here!)

Hi Ladies & Gents :flirt2:

When I next go shopping I am looking for an easy way of picking Slimming World-friendly products. Is it just as simple as looking at the back of the pack and picking products that are low in kcals or is there more to it than that?

There's a bit more to it than that as some stuff will have a 'free food allowance'. Go for 'unadulterated' items where possible - plain veg/fruit/meat etc that you can spice up with non-sauces etc.
Dried plain rice & pasta (not fresh) is a big one if you like these.
What sort of thing do you normally buy - maybe we can suggest alternatives.
Take your book with you to check your Healthy Extra's - cheese, breads, cereals etc

To be honest- its going to be more about buying raw ingredients and cooking yourself. There are some convenience foods out there (mugshots, low fat supernoodles, etc) but you are going to have to raid the fruit, veg, meat and dried pasta/noodles/rice if you want to succeed.

You are going to discover cooking skills you never knew you had- lovely quick, easy tasty nutritious meals for all the family in the recipe section

HEXs are listed in your books, but most free food has to worked at a little (unless eaten raw!)
Good luck

Do you have any of the books?

Thanks for the responses :happy096:

The EE plan is really suited to me as some of my favourite foods are things like rice, noodles, pasta, potatoes, steaks, eggs...Still can't believe I can actually eat all this stuff and lose weight!! Seen it in action with a few friends, so I know it's possible

I don't have any of the books yet, but I will venture forth to purchase some next payday. I've been referring to the 3 lists religiously and I am actually quite a skilled cook, but I guess it's about learning the plan and being a bit creative with what you're allowed. I recently bought some reduced fat cheddar and, apart from the fact it makes lousy cheese on toast (!) it's actually really rather good. Amazing that I can have this as my Hex A or B!

I think I will miss butter. I know I can syn it, but I'm trying to keep my syns down a wee bit. Been aiming for about 8 - 10 a day. Is there a low-syn alternative? I like to melt some butter over pasta before serving it...yum!

Also I'm a fan of bread, so I've been reading the Hex lists to see what kind of bread I'm allowed. Thankfully I like brown bread, so that's a good start :D

Fallen Angel - I see you and I are in a similar position. Similar height, weight, target weight and goal date. We should share tips :)

If you're doing EE then you can't have cheese as a HEB - only a HEA. You can have it as a HEB only on the green day. It also goes further if it's grated ;)
try the Frylight Buttery spray - free for as many sprays as you need.
You can have wholemeal bread on SW but not much brown (except WW Danish I think) but it's good that you like it. I'm not keen (especially as toast) so I go for the Nimble White but all my local shops have stopped stocking it! :(
I'm always here to share tips with! :D

The EE plan documentation I downloaded doesn't mention original and green days? I don't quite know what all the original & green day stuff is about, except that it's something to do with meat on an O day and veg on a G day. Help! lol thought I had this sussed, too

(10 mins later) Ok I've just looked and it would appear they've changed the documentation from when I downloaded it last week? The Hex list I have mentions nothing about green or original, so I guess I'll just refer to the new list! (Grrrrr)

So do I need to have G and O days to make this work properly?

Fry light buttery sounds great - have put it on the shopping list.

Sorry, sound like such a nooooob :D

No, you don't have to do red/green aswell - you can do only one type of day or all mixed in - whatever takes your fancy!
I think it does help to know them though as they are the basis for EE but that's just my opinion!

Green and Original are just the other two major SW plan. You'll find some info on the thread for newbies at the top of the page. They have different free foods and you get two HEAs and HEBs instead of the one on Extra Easy. You can choose whichever plan you want - some people do all EE, others all green, and yet more do a mixture. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it.

Phew, ok. I like the idea of sticking to whatever I fancy - This can't be a diet! :D

Butter buds sound amazing, Circes. Great tip! We have a Lakeland here in Edinburgh so I will be visiting in the next few days once I'm back to work and I've shifted this bloomin' female-version-of-manflu! :sigh:

Ok, here's a question - If I were to have half of my HexA (say 175 ml skimmed milk) could I have half of another Hex A (say, 21g grated reduced fat cheddar)
?...or does it not work that way?
