Ok so silly question, my friend has lost a lot of weight with slimming world.

She never set her self a target but her C did and that was to be at the heaviest end of her BMi so 25.

Now she has reached target, how would she maintain.

she doesnt want to go any slimmer but wants to keep eating well and essential doing Sw s its her routine but her C said is she loses more than 0.5lb a week she wont be at target and will have to pay!

is there like a scheme such as upping syns to maintain??

how do you maintain target with SW if you keep following plan because essentially she will continue to loose weight and she is happy the way she is??

anyone get my drift? lol

i think i just confused myself

I think consultants advise to increase HE's to maintain rather than syns.

Not sure on the official line though - i've still got a long way to go!!!

Firstly I don't think your friend's consultant should have set her target for her - that is supposed to be completely down to the inidividual as long as they remain within healthy limits.

However if your friend is happy with that target her consultant should be giving her advice on maintaining. And I don't know where this comment about not being a target member if she loses more than half a pound come from because that is just wrong.

When you set your target you no longer pay for classes as long as you remain within 3lbs of your target weight, either lower or heavier. To maintain your friend should start by introducing an additional HE and monitoring how that affects her weight. If she continues to lose that she should add another HE and carry on until her weight loss stops and she maintains. You should not routinely up the syn level but some people find it easier to follow the SW plan 100% during the week but allow themselves a day or two at the weekend when they can have whatever you want. To do this you need to be sure that you'll be able to get back on plan come Monday morning. It's a case of finding out what works for you and in some ways it's harder to maintain than to lose weight.

Hope this helps.

Can't you change your target once you think you've reached the 1st initial one? I think that is what one of the ladies in my class does every 4-6 weeks.

Yes you can change your target once you've reached it, but it must be changed by at least 7lbs.

You don't have to do the full 7 pounds any more. I e-mailed SW Head Office a couple of weeks ago and this is the reply they sent me:

Thank you for your email received at Head Office. If you are currently within our healthy BMI range and are wishing to tweak your Target then you can do this by less than 7lbs Sonia, but if you have taken Target outside of this healthy range than it must be amended by at least 7lbs.

My consultant said that people handle maintenance differently.
Some people up their HEXs until they find the level they wish to maintain.
Some people up their syns a little as well as their HEXs.
Others up their daily syns and some use the same syns, only upping their syns over weekends.
I don't always have my HEXbs so have upped my syns and occasionally added extra HEXbs and am currently 2.5 pounds below target. I STS at my last weigh in so it seems to be working for me. Time will tell.

Your consultant shouldn't have decided on a target for your friend, and should be advising your friend on how to maintain her target once reached! The official SW advice for maintaing at target is in the SW book, and is basically to increase your healthy extras and not syns to an amount that is right for the individual to maintain at. Your frined can attend class for free as a target member as long as she is within 3lbs either side of her target weight. If she leaves that boundary and can't get back to it by the next week, she will have to pay.

Oooh right! Good to know Sonia, thanks for the tip x

one of my friends is at target she tends to have an extra b choice every second day as she also uses 15 syns a day and this seems to work for her (she also dosnt go to class the weeks she goes over / under her 3lbs and pulls it back and goes the following week )

Someone help me got to target 10st7 then over the last 2 weeks i lost 4.5lb so now i am under if i dont put on 1.5lb i will have to pay!! Dont they give you a few weeks to adjust as i am now wondering and panicking about putting on and eating rubbish to do it etc.

I dont take my syns never have as i ended up everyday eating junk which i didnt need.. i use it for gravy, mayo and flora light so around 4syns lol or the odd baileys/vodka once a week lol

I tried to up my hexBs by eating 2 ww danish brown toast but not cause i wanted it cause i had too. just twice a week didnt help.

I would like extra breakfast cereal so my plan to put on this week is 3 weetabix in morning or 2 lots of those porridge sachets. see how i get on? any target member let me know your ideas!!

You won't have to pay if you quote what SW headquarters sent me:

Perhaps you can change your target to what you are now and start maintaining from there.
If I were you I would try and up they syns by adding foods (like perhaps avocado) if you are scared to eat junk food and adding more HEXs every day.

Great advice, as always! Now to get to my target weight!!!!
