    I think its also partly to do with the time it takes to eat. You could easily sit and eat a full tin of this, whereas you are much less likely to eat an entire grapefruit in one sitting. They take into account the peeling, slicing any prepping required etc - because this affects how much of the food you are likely to eat. Plus the tinned is much more palatable and easier to eat.

    With regards cooked fruit, again its meant to be partly down to how quickly you can eat it. For example if you stewed 3 apples, you could easily spoon that into you in a few minutes with a dollop of yoghurt - yum! You are much less likely to sit and eat 3 apples in one go. One raw apple would satisfy you more than one stewed apple, it looks like more to the eye and takes longer to eat. So you eat less.
