Hello all fellow SWers,
I have a huge challenge...
I got a promotion at work - great :happy096: and I'll get to travel a lot (half the month, each month..!) :character00255:

But.. What can I eat on the road??!?! I've just managed to get myself into the routine, and have been going 1.5-2lb per week and now it will all be ruined! :sigh:

For example I will be off to Spain on Monday, will be meeting clients and taking (and being taken to) lunches and dinners and whatnot. I'm so scared that I will end up putting back on everything that I've managed to get off since May.

If you have some good ideas or have been in similar situation - please help!!

First of all, congratulations on the promotion. It sounds like a wonderful job.

You say "now it will all be ruined" - don't say that to yourself or it will become what they call a self-fulfilling prophecy! Instead, say to yourself that this might be a bit difficult, but it is a problem to be overcome. You didn't get promoted to this fantastic job by being the sort of person that gives in at the first sign of difficulty, did you?

Eating out is always difficult, and even more so when it is work, not pleasure. But you must get into the habit of asking for what you want - ask for the fish without the sauce, or the salad without the dressing. Restaurant staff will be happy to oblige if you ask quietly and nicely. Have one glass of wine to be sociable, but also have a large glass of water sitting next to it - that way you can make that one glass of wine last the whole meal (and possibly having a clearer head than everyone else might work to your advantage!).

The other thing is that if your meal arrives and there are things you shouldn't be eating - don't eat them! We are all conditioned from childhood to clear our plates, but it isn't compulsory. If something comes with a sauce anyway, push it to one side and avoid eating too much of it. If there are chips, don't eat them, or eat one or two.

OK, it will take some willpower, but you can do it if you tell yourself that you can.

Thanks guys, I was getting a bit panicy last night, but now I'm even more determined and have got a plan:

1. I will make sure that I will always have HiFi-bars or AlpenLights with me so I'll have something (relatively) healty snack if the meetings drag on.

2. Most all hotels (surely?) will have kettle in the room so I'll pack a few MugShots or CupASoups in my luggage and have it at the hotel before heading for the dinner (so I won't be starving and tempted at dinner!)

3. Practice saying "chicken breast with steamed vegetables and salad, no dressing, please" and "Can I have mineral water, please" so that they will come out naturally.... :)

4. Definitely go for the "one glass for show" on the wine!!!

I just hope that I will be able to keep myself away from all the gourmet food, and stick with the healthy choices.....
