Fruit as 1/3 and superfree question

Hi ya

I am currently really enjoying my porridge with loads of defrosted berries and pineapple for brekkie and also with yoghurt as a snack.

My friend who also does SW has said to lay off the fruit and try to do more veg as her doctor told her the natural sugars make it harder to lose weight. I'm steering clear if bananas (1 every other day or so) but what is your experiences with this?

Do I really have to cut back on this too?

Hey hun, you need to put your question under Exante diet, its currently down as Slimming World thread so you are less likely to get help as your fellow Exante slimmers probably won't read this. Hope that helps xx

This is a SW question....

Hun, you don't need to cut down on fruit. SW wouldn't let fruit be a superfree food if we needed to restrict it. Same goes for bananas. I'm a big fan of the humble banana and often have a couple a day, never did me any harm.

There is a lot of differing opinion on what is and isn't healthy, some people think it's unhealthy to eat so much pasta and potatoes, some think it's unhealthy not to have good fats like avocado and olive oil, some think it's wrong to eat late.....

We choose to follow SW and it's rules so we shouldn't really listen to any other advice. My opinion of course.

WELL SAID JAYLOU (i do seem to be following you around agreeing with you today)

Sounds like a perfect breakfast to me. Variety is good in any healthy eating plan but really are you going to substitute your berries for carrots? Plenty of different frutis and veggies that you love all work as superfrees.

If it's not broke don't fix it......
STILL, for me I find I do need to go easy on bananas and grapes.
I'm think (and I could be wrong) but the guidelines (not sw mind you) are that out of your 5 a day only 2 portions should be fruit and 3 should be veg.

I've always eaten loads of 'watery' fruit though and have only ever kept an eyes on bananas and grapes.

Grapes and banana's aren't superfree, so yes maybe cut back on those, but the berries (excluding blueberries) and other fruit that IS classed as superfree then there's no limit. I have a HUGE bowl of fruit every day, and sometimes snack on extra fruit throughout the day, and it hasn't hindered my weight losses at all. But everyone is different, if you find your losses are dwindling, then maybe it's time to try some variations, or eliminating certain things until you find out what is hindering things. But if your losses are still good then I see nothing wrong with that breakfast at all

Grapes and bananas ARE superfree. They are not speed or superspeed. I think you are getting confused!

There is no limit on bananas and grapes. Nowhere does it say you can only have one banana a day, for example!

I do agree though, that if your losses are slow then changes bananas or grapes for apples or oranges or berries but other than that, they are fine!

I just commented on another thread where someone has confused superfree with superspeed. You would think someone at SW would have had the intelligence to realise that it is confusing!

I always have fruit & cereal for breakfast followed by a least 3 pieces of fruit during the day for snacks; sometimes more.

It's not made a difference to my weight loss. As Jaylou said 'We choose to follow SW and it's rules so we shouldn't really listen to any other advice'.

If you stopped eating fruit you wouldn't be eating a healthy diet & that is what SW is about.

slightly off topic but my dad has type 2 diabetes and cant eat grapes or bananas at all because they make his sugar levels go sky high he is fine with all other fruits though.

I think that my weight loss is effected because i eat 2 bananas a day (loooove them lol) but i dont like much other fruits except raspberries and strawberrie but they are too expensive to be buying them 2-3 times a week.

I don't think she does - she said "my friend who also does SW".....

I think her info just says exante - I doubt very much on exante she'd be eating porridge with berries and pineapple and having yoghurt as a snack as exante is shakes and soups and bars and a very low cal diet!

yeh maybe that's it then. Unless is it with exante that you start to add food to diet to maintain?

Yes, you're right, that is what I meant... I had two kids running round screaming as I wrote that...

Hi guys. Sorry for the confusion!! I have done so many diets that I forgot to change my diet info lol

I am following slimming world now. Thanks for the info, it's been really helpful. I think I will keep bananas and grapes to a minimum ( not a problem) and carry on with my yummy berries and pineapple

thanks again - u guys are great support and knowledge!!!

and carry on with my yummy berries and pineapple

Is it tinned pineapple Mel or fresh?

100g of canned in juice is 1.5 syns and 1 ring is 1 syn. They are both higher if canned in syrup. I made this mistake last week when I put tinned pineapple in a curry. I just assumed if it was canned in juice it would be free.
