Struggling with evening snacking and tempting takeaways

Hi everyone,

I have been doing slimming world since the summer of last year and managed to lose 1 stone 8 lbs reaching my original target. I was really pleased and was finding it relatively easy to stick to. However in September I came back for my 2nd year Uni and gradually started to slip back into my old routine. I managed (luckily) to only gain 5lbs between then and now, however i am struggling. I rejoined Slimming world a couple of weeks ago and I have lost 4lbs in total. I know that the average weightloss is about 2lbs per week but i know i can do better as i frequently stray off the plan.
My difficulty is in the evening when my friends and boyfriend can all nip down the shop and buy chocolate, sweets and crisps and I feel deprived ( and very moody haha!) if i don't buy some too. Its usually a family size bag aswel! And then being a typical student i often get tempted into takeaways with friends whilst we watch a film. I also get the typical eye roll from the guys of 'oh god another girl on a diet'. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to curb this habit as I know it would make me really unhappy if i gained the weight i have worked hard to lose. I also want to reach my new target which means i have another stone and a half to go and i know i am shooting myself in the foot a bit by not having enough discipline.
Any support and advice would be very much appreciated.

If I were you Lizz I would be explaining to my boyfriend and friends that you are on a diet and need their support. I'm a bit of a ***** in this department- if anyone wants to eat crap on my time they can do it outside with the smokers!! It's a shame I can't enforce that rule in work, i'd be a size 8 if I banned my employees from eating near me!

I'd reccommend freezing leftover portions of free meals so when they are snacking you can eat too and i'd arm yourself with nommy low syn treats- hifi lights, fruit, low fat supernoodles etc.

I think SW is all down to preperation. Next time you are going out and suspect you might be dragged into a takeaway, look up what the lowest syn meal you can have is and stick to that. Take your own snacks to the cinema and don't let anyone bully you into eating! It's for the good of your health.

^^ THIS!

seriously- this was what I was gonna say...saves me a job ;) haha

Try telling yourself that takeaways are dreadful common things and that you are far too good for them. They are beneath you. (No, I don't suggest you say this to anyone else, that would make you really unpopular, this is just for your benefit!)

ahh but if she says it to her friends they might take their takeaways elsewhere, then she doesn't have to be around said bad food ;)

saying that...i heard that when you bite into chocolate and sweets, spiders and bugs crawl out :jelous:

Thank for all the replies. They are all very helpful, its true i think it is all down to preparation. I might have to try the not eating crap near me rule!
....and i wish spiders and bugs did crawl out of chocolate when u eat haha!! It would put me off for life!

no no- really- they do!

don't even eat any more- gross gross bugs!

my consultant told me this- and she wouldn't lie ;)

I'm a university student too, and I used to have this exact problem.

I was lucky, because within a few weeks, my friends started to see how much it meant to me, and were a lot more considerate. Have you considered saving a few syns a day, then picking something low syn up at the takeaway so you don't feel left out? For example, black been or oyster sauce dishes (with boiled rice if you fancy) at the Chinese and Lamb Rogan Josh or Chicken Dhansak at an Indian?

I know how difficult it is with the sweets/crisps, but I used to allow myself one sweet. That was, psychologically I'd had one, and therefore wasn't deprived, but at the end of the day, 2 haribo are only 1.5 syns, so it wasn't going to affect my losses.

Keep your chin up hon, you're doing really well :) Slimming is really difficult with the student lifestyle, but remember that if you can manage it there, you can do it anywhere!
