Should I go to Slimming World. Please advise me!

OK, well as you can probably guess by the fact I am posting on here I need to lose some weight and am considering joining a slimming club
I have put on my usual several pounds over Christmas and now need to lose about three stone. I have tried both slimming world and weight watchers online, done OK for a while on both but had problems sticking to the diet. Whilst I was moaning to my (slim) sister about the problem she said "If you went to a slimming club then you would find it easier to stick to diets. You wouldn't be tempted to eat things you shouldn't if you knew you had to get on the scales every week"
I dare say this is true but the prospect of actually going to a slimming club is quite scary! There is a slimming world class near to be and I am half tempted to go but I am a bit nervous about the prospect. Should I give it a go or try and do it on my own again.

    Hiya Need To Lose

The great thing about slimming clubs is that you get a chance to meet up with other people in exactly the same position as you, share tips and advice, and get personal support. Yes, it can be daunting going the first few times, and getting on the scales can be kinda traumatic, but any worthy class teacher will do their best to make you feel comfortable, introduce you to a few other class members to help you settle in, etc.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. If you have managed to lose weight on your own previously, but keep putting it back on, then perhaps you need to change the way you do it?? And a slimming club may be just the thing you need.

Why don't you give it a try? The worst that can happen is you decide that it's not for you and you don't go back again.

    Hope that helps

    Hi

Yes it is so much better going to a club and it really isnt as scary as you think as everyone is in the same boat as you.

I have tried doing it on line myself but you really need the motivation of a weekly meet to keep you on track, Well I do. You can pick up lots of hints and ideas that you dont get on the pc. I find to that the diet makes more sense when it has been explained to me than trying to read it myself and of course you can ask questions.

You can also go and get weighed and leave again which I will probably be doing as I am not to keen on my group leader but I will still have a quick gossip with some of the ladies I know first.

I would give it a shot Im sure registration is half price at the moment so not the end of the world if you dont like it. I think there will be a lot of people starting groups after the hols so you wont be alone

I think the group support is invaluable and would say get yourself down there at the first opportunity. With 3st to lose you wont be the largest there and have nothing to feel shy about. Stay to class, youll be amazed at the tips and support you pick up. Just staying to get weighed defeats the purpose of the class and works out a blooming expensive weigh in. Good luck with it.

Hiya I go to class and it is the best choice I have ever made. I tried WW and SW online but failed both with in a month or so. But the support of a group is amazing. I have managed to lose 4St7Lbs since may 2007 and still have 5St7Lbs to go. Good luck in what ever you decide but the support you get on here is fantastic too.

I agree, go to a club! Every time I miss a class I fall off the wagon. I know that without the support of my class AND this forum Jerry Springer would be lifting me out of my living room by crane :/ Well...okay maybe it wouldn't be that bad, but I stick by my first statement!

Well. I bottled it! I was all set to go on Thursday but I just couldn't bring myself to walk through the door. I am going to give myself one more crack at losing the weight on my own by making a few lifestyle changes (more exercise, less alchohol and cutting out as many fattening foods as I can) If I can't lose a stone in the next three months, I will bite the bullet and go!

    Diet: just starting Cambridge

    going to slimming world class

Hi, i did exactly the same as you last week, was going to go on the Thursday and then chickened out, made all the excuses under the sun as to why i shouldnt go, however after being realistic realised i couldnt do it on my own, because if i could i would have done it by now!
I have tried all of he diets Lighter Life/Cambridge/Atkins, etc etc, i didnt need anyone to try and work out why i was overeating, it was simple, because i loved food, so for me i am definately going to start my local slimming world class Monday night, (on my own) as i do not live close to my friends or family.
So wish me luck, i would like to lose 4st which would mean i would be the same size as when i was 18.
will let you know how i go!

    I'm sure you'll do great.

To be honest, I prefer going to a club on my own as I don't feel under as much pressure to lose or fall in to the comparing weight loss trap.

I nearly chickened too but really glad i went, i dont always stay for class but it really helps having the incentive of going to get weighed. Good luck whatever you do
