Hi all!
New to this... I started slimming world 14 weeks ago and in my first 11 weeks I lost one stone 8lbs!
I then joined a gym to help with weight loss and tone!
Now my weight loss has completely stopped!! I gained a pound one week and lost half a pound the week after! I feel like the gym is going to stop me losing weight and I have a stone to go to my target weight!
Help :( Do I stop going to the gym till I get to target and then tone???
Your help would be muchly appreciated :D

Your body may build fluid in your muscles for a little while, don't give up on the gym, I do gym and sw and have lost nearly 3st and I'm 6.5lb away from target so keep it up and you'll get there your body might just need some adjustment time :)

I just don't feel like it will. I've really stuck to SW this week so if I have gained or sts tonight when I get weighed then I don't know what to do :(

Once you start exercising it usually takes a couple of weeks for your body to adjust. Losses will normally slow down or disappear for a couple of weeks and then will start again. It's totally normal, no need to worry about it.

Thank you. I just feel like i'm getting muscley and not losing any fat any more. I guess I just need to stick it out!

Yeah don't give up, ask the instructor if your stuck I have a programme with cardio and light weights so it shouldn't effect weightloss too much. If your still struggling in a couple of weeks time you might want to look at other things like portions etc (obviously that's only if your still not losing) :)

Yeah I do 30 minutes on the cross trainer on hill, crunches and weights - I think I have been doing too much of the weights as my arms are quite big now lol I'm just blaming it on the gym as I was doing so well till I joined there! If I don't start to lose I guess i could speak to an instructor. :)

The most important thing to remember is you want to tone while you lose weight because it'll be harder once your at target (well it'll take longer). Measure yourself and don't just take the number on the scales (I know because I get disheartened and the number takes over my life haha!)

One of my days at the gym consists of:
Treadmill - 25mins (15 jogging)
Weights - light
Cross trainer - 10mins
Rower 10mins

But then it varies on other days and I go 3/4 times per week

Edit: apparently muscle weighs the same as fat it's just more dense so it should even out :)

I thought muscle weighed more and that was my excuse haha!
Yes I have thought about measuring once a week and trying to not let the scales control my life!!! If i lose inches off my belly then I will be happy no matter what weight I am! I will also be making my weights less as I have read online small weights and more reps is good for weight loss! :)

1lb of muscle is 1lb of muscle and 1lb of fat is 1lb of fat. You essentially want light weights to tone up the areas while the cardio will help get rid of fat. I don't know the science behind it but yeah there needs to be a balance. For me I'd rather be in a smaller clothes size and be toned than be lighter and still be 'wobbly' in areas :p

Well technically fat does weigh less, yes a lb of fat is a lb of fat and a lb of muscle weighs the same as a lb of fat but a lb of feathers weighs the same as a lb of bricks. The same area of muscle will weigh more then the same area of fat.... same as a shoe box full of bricks will weigh more then a shoe box full of feathers.... However, you won't be replacing the fat with that much muscle to make a difference, unless your doing serious body building.
It will show eventually, I know its disheartening, I'm sort of in the same place but like others have said, much better to weigh a bit more but look nicer then weigh less but have wobbly bits... people don't see you as a number on the scales

Yeah true, I guess as long as my belly is flat and toned and my legs are more trim it doesn't matter what the scales say! Thank you

Hi! Don't give up on the gym! At some point you will notice the difference it makes whether on the scales or in those jeans you want to get into. I joined the gym in october and although I only go twice a week and do zumba on a third day, I definitely think it's all helping! Let us know about weigh in. Hope you're lighter as it always makes us feel better!

Thank you. Yes I have tried really hard this week so if I put on tonight I will be devastated. I need a good loss to get me back into it :D I think i may change to doing two gym days and a class such as body combat as I have heard classes are a really good work out and probably more fun!

it's hard not to be frustrated and discouraged when you do a load of exercise and dont get the reward on the scales. i started running a few months ago and my losses stopped dead for about a month, and i let it throw me off track with the diet. i kept the running up but stopped bothering with the diet as it wasn't working anyway. daft! after several wasted months my theory is exercise is definitely not going to make me any fatter, its only making me look and feel better.the weight loss will come from what i'm eating. i've finally got back into the diet and hoping to see the benefits on the scales now.

Well done Thursday for getting back on track, as hard as it may be loosing the weight is difficult but worth it. I think most of us go through a time when we exercise but don't watch what we eat or the other way round! Doing both together shows results at some point and hopefully this time that point will arrive quicker hence keeping you motivated.

Well I lost 1.5lbs! So I guess it is working! I am going to cut my gym slightly and swap one of my sessions for a class instead! Very happy with that result :D Its given me more motivation!!
