What fat content in extra lean mince would be free on the original plan
I think as long as it says it's extra lean on the pack then it's free
I thought it had to be 5% fat or below to count as Free.
I am also under the impression that beef has to be under 5% fat for it to count as free too, but I cant remember where I saw it on the SW site so cant post for definite!
Wow I didn't know. I'm gonna check my packs in the morning. I just buy it if it says extra lean. How misleading :(
Some packs will say typically less than 5% fat, otherwise you have to check that the fat grams in 100g is less than 5. I'm not sure if it matters whether it's as sold or cooked though
All the extra lean minced beef I have ever bought says less than 5% fat on the packet. You just have o be careful with mince like pork, turkey or lamb as this can vary with fat content xx
Until recently Morrisons beef mince said extra lean but when you looked at the nutritional info it was 7% fat and so not syn free. I believe that is being changed to 5% just now though xx
And unfortunately not all turkey mince is free even if less than 5% fat - asda is only 3% but is still synned :(
Tesco do turkey mince and turkey breast mince there is great difference in the fat. They sit side by side on the shelf though so easy to pick up the wrong one.
Neigh neigh and thrice neigh lol
Glad I am vegetarian! But seriously there is no legislation that says extra lean has to be a certain % fat ;)
oooh how interesting, mine say typically less than 5%!! I'm still happy at the zero amount of fat drainage i get off nearly every single pack I cook compared to the fat ridden one I drain for my husband! YUCK! :)
I was just going to say about turkey. It was a tip picked up from biggest loser. Turkey mince is nasty stuff, it's essentially all the skin and fats that have come out of the rendering process mixed in with the off cuts etc and ground up together. Turkey breast mince however is probably the leanest mince you can find at less than 1% fat. Look out for turkey leg mince. Not as lean as turkey bast, but not as bad as 'turkey' mince. Turkey leg has a much stronger taste.
