Slimming world v weight watchers filling and healthy

I have done every diet going over the years and did weight watchers when u had little magnets for fats carbs and proteins. I have in the last couple of years done ww f@h and sw. I need to loose a few stone and cannot decide which way to go. Hate counting stuff so pro points is deffo not for me.
This is me, always have breakfast which is cereal or porridge due to time. Not a salad lover so prefer sandwiches and often travel for work so they are easier. Cook a meal every night so evenings are fine.

the way I see it, in the main the food lists are similar on both plans. The main differences which affect me from what i can see are sw if u want bread and cereals have to use one as syns, but you can have flavoured yogurts for free. On ww f@h I can have cereals and wraps/bread for sandwiches but cannot have flavoured yogurts. Also ww is brown rice and pasta but sw can use white, (I think).

Does anyone know of any other big differences and which have you found easier to maintain long term. (Have posted this on ww as well as didn't know if people went on both and would like advice from both camps).
Thanks
Jan

Hi housie, well most people now do the ee plan on S W BUT if you really want cereal and bread everyday you can have those without synning them if you use certain cereals and bread as your Healthy Extra b on red and green plans. You are allowed both on these. For instance you could make a sandwich of 400g wholemeal bread (2 slices) and have 35g of certain cereals. You can also have many flavoured yoghurts also free on all plans with S W so long as they are syn free. Mullerlights are mainly free with a few exceptions. Hope this helps :)

For the bread/cereals it depends which plan you follow. If you decide to follow Extra Easy (which is the main one they push) then you will have to syn the bread or the cereal (usually around 8 syns). However, if you go for red (meat) or green (veggie) then your allowed 2 of the healthy extra B a day. Personally I tend to follow green with the odd EE day because like you I often have cereal in the morning and a sandwich at lunch. However, I've also found it's been making me think of a larger variety of things I can have for lunch. I brought myself a food thermos so now if I'm out I can take soup or something with me and I don't have to follow green or syn for bread. I'm not a massive salad fan either in fairness so it works quite well for me.

Hi Housie,
I have done both ( quite a few times over the years!). I much prefer SW, and this is the longest I have stuck with something and the one I have had the best results. 6 months ago I never thought I could get by on just 2 slices of wholemeal bread a day! I often had 8 slices a day! Like cherry b I have a lot of soup at lunch time with a fruit salad and free yogurt. I actually feel better in the afternoon now without the sandwich. I tend to have my bread in the morning. When I did WW I felt hungry a lot of the time, but I haven't on SW ( although I still crave chocolate or crisps!). I think it is an individual choice and what suits you. I like salad and veg so I manage Ok on EE days. You can see from the boards people have great success on both plans. At the end of the day "dieting" can be hard whatever you do! What ever plan you use just don't give up! Good luck.

Very similar to my post. Singing from the same hymn sheet. S W rocks. Love the red and green plans :)

SW all the way for me. When I run out of points or calories I hate not being allowed anything an quite often go over my allowance and then fall off the wagon x

Weight Watchers or slimming world????

I've been offered 12 weeks free membership of a slimming group today and I'm not sure which one to do. Hoping someone can advise on which may suit my circumstances better.

I'm cooking for myself, hubby and three kids and my biggest worry is food spend in all honesty as I have a limited budget right now to get all of our shopping and I have to be able to cook for all of us in one go and not separate for myself. My other thing is I always struggle with is hunger and I wondered if one plan was better than the other for costs to stick to plan and also combating hunger? Any advice would be appreciated as I'm a total newbie to both plans, thanks :)

If you do SW you will not at any stage be hungry. With WW you are limited to a certain amount of points and when you reach that you are unable to eat any more. With SW a large number of foods are not restricted so to me there really is no contest.

I would say Slimming World is far more popular, if you look at this site currently there are 89 viewing the Weight Watchers forum and and 402 viewing Slimming World.

I think the second sentence should start SW and not WW???

Hi, can I ask you is it all cooking from scratch with slimming world? Like for example if I was doing a chicken curry would I be allowed to use a jar or would I have to do it entirely from scratch and are there plenty of cheap to make meals?

Everything has to be cooked yourself which is better anyway cos you jnow exactly what your eating. I Cook for a family of 4 and the only way is to.plan ahead.

Re: Weight Watchers or slimming world????

You could still use a jar of curry on slimming world but it would be a few syns. You are allowed 15syns per day and if you wanted, you can save them up for a few days.

Many in my slimming world group have come from weight watchers and have preffered it.
SW members can eat when they're hungry, you could have some yogurts at 9pm when hungry, or some chicken tills bits to snack on.
As far as I know, you stop eating at a certain time with WW.

Good luck in what you choose x

I did WW years ago and lost 3.5 stone in 3 months, which was fab, but it didnt teach me anything as i starved all day so i could use my points on chocolate!!!!!! I have only started SW 2 weeks ago but my weight loss is good AND i am learning t eat properly.

I have done both but I have to admit my Weightwatchers days were when they used the 'old' plan so I can't really comment on it today.

WW didn't work for me personally before because I found it too regimented. I had and continue to have great success with SW as I easily adapted to the plan and can follow it without thinking about it, and I don't get hungry.

SW is best when you cook from scratch as you know exactly what is going into the food, but it doesn't have to be like that, when you are a member you will have access to the website where you can find out the syn value for most anything, so for example if you want to make spag bol, but want to use a jar of Dolmio, it'll give you the syn value for it.

Sw its as close to "normal Eating" as you will ever get on a diet and its cheaper as there are no convinience foods to make life easier its pretty easy with sw extra easy :)

Got to agree with all the pro S W comments! Very little weighing and measuring, eat till youre full, snack on free food, and a little of what you fancy every day. Nothing is off limits, you can syn everything. Fits in with the family as they can eat exactly what you do, its just healthy eating in a stuctured way. No brainer, :) :)

To be honest it's so easy to cook stuff from scratch, i couldn't cook anything much pre slimming world now I'm doing spag Bol, curries, chicken chow mein! It will most likely be easier to cook for a family of four on sslimmingworld rather than weight watchers
