Creme fraiche?

Not sure I'm spelling this right but what do you use crème fraiche for and does it taste better than quark or fromage frais? It's a mystery to me!!

Hun I found out the hard way that Creme frache has a high syn count so stick to the fromage frais....

Anything you would use cream in really and yes I think it tastes better than fromage frais. I use the WW creme fraiche which is only half a syn for a level tbsp :)

It does taste much nicer than fromage frais, it's creamier and smoother, and doesn't curdle even if you boil it in a sauce. I use it when I want to make a slightly more indlugent sauce, e.g. for mushroom sauce to go with a steak for a treat dinner, as a little goes a long way - I had a decent sized pot of mushroom sauce last week for just 4 syns worth of full fat creme fraiche x

Oh great, thanks! That doesn't sound as awful as I thought - will give it a go. :) Can't believe how many awards you've received! Totally inspirational! x

I use it to make a nice creamy sauce for steaks and like Patchwork Puss said the WW one isnt too bad syn wise x

Sounds gorgeous. Thanks! Will definitely be ditching the fromage frais and quark in most recipes, I think! :) x

Wow, that's amazing! I would have thought it would, at least, have been low calorie crème fraiche! That's really good and thanks for such an informative answer. I won't be panicking if I have to boil it now. Looks like you're doing brilliantly with your weight loss. Good luck. x

Bought some JS BGTY crème fraiche when out shopping yesterday. Was going to buy Weight Watchers, as recommended above, only they'd run out but checked before I went out on SW site and the one I bought is the same Syn value as the WW - half a Syn for a level tbsp. Probably try making a garlicky mushroom sauce to go with a baked potato or make another Half Syn Fruit Roulade and use it as a filling, after sweetening. : )

Ooh that's good for creme fraiche! Is it as thick as normal fat creme fraiche? x
