Last weigh in at group tomorrow

Well tomorrow night's the night. I've decided it will be my last visit to group. I subscribed to six weeks in advance as incentive to go and I stuck to it. I'm happy with the plan and it seems to be working. Why am I leaving?

Well the group is new and so is the consultant. The group is massive, they can't or won't weigh you as you come in it has to be at 7.30pm precisely and so there's a stampede for the pay and weigh in once they get going. Therefore, the rest of the time is then spent clapping everyone for their losses or commiserating their gains - end of night. What have I learnt in six weeks? Sit nearest to the till :)

I've learnt more the in past six weeks on this site than I've ever learnt at group and I really don't want to be insulting about the consultant because she's not a bad person, I just wish it had been more informative and seemed like value for money.

So, I hope to continue on my journey at home along with the great support and advice you get here. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, this site is a real godsend. :)

It sounds more like a problem because its a large group rather then the consultant to be fair to her, all groups have to start on the time which they're meant to and not a minute before. But I can understand how if you feel your not getting anything from group why you would want to leave, is there a smaller group you could go to instead?

My consultant is supposed to start weighing at 9.30am but she often opens the scales at 8.30am for people to weigh before they go to work etc. We have quite a large class and it's not unusual to be there from 9-12.
Having said that, it's awesome that you feel so supported here on minimins and I wish you continued success here with us :D xx

I have followed SW from home & got to target thru my own will & determination but mainly with the invaluable support/advice/encouragement I've had from this site. Good luck, you can do it x

Wow! 9-12!!! I thought my class was long! Roughly how many people go to that group? Is it good fun?

Well possibly, but not locally. They've all migrated to this one because it's the nearest :)

Thank you hun :).

I agree if they could just get the pay and weigh up and running, those that wanted to, could leave straight away, avoid a massive rush/queue and leave more time to discuss things as we have to leave the building by a certain time, which gives us around an hour or even less to discuss anything. The 'applauding' on it's own takes that long. :(

Thanks Kim, you have done so well! It is people like you that make me believe I can do it too :)

I don't go to class either, and I never have. I don't see the point in spending money when I can follow the plan at home, weigh myself. If I can't encourage or motivate myself to lose weight then I will never leave a class and always be dependent on someone else to see me through. Not what I call a good strategy for life. I use this board like a class so all is good and it works.

I understand what you are saying and I am too quite a self-motivated person. However, I have heard numerous people say that they need that extra support from others or sometimes just knowing that they feel 'accountable' to someone by going and getting weighed is what spurs them on or they feel they will just give up. It really is personal choice.

If I'm totally honest I may not have signed up but I went with my daughter so we could encourage and support each other. As long as she felt she needed the group, I would have gone for her, but we both feel it's time to go it alone.

I totally get you! I'm thinking of doing the same. I used to go to a group that I loved- about 20 people absolute max and we did the clappy bit but also shared lots of recipes, got to know each other and supported each other. I've moved house and my local group must have about 50 people in it so it goes on forever and literally all we do is clap or commiserate then go home. It's crap! I really think there should be an upper limit to a group- which I know would cause outcry about being available to everyone but tw group should be split into more times.
I get absolutely nothing out of my group other than books and hifis so I'm seriously considering saving £20 a month and going it alone x

Thanks Amy, I appreciate that. I think maybe limiting group sizes would promote interaction and engagement. Lots of people don't want to sit in huge groups and find that in itself intimidating. I'm also keen on the idea that an early doors 'pay and weigh' would fast track those through who don't want to stay.

I've changed groups for the same reason my usual Monday group had 50+ it used to take almost an hour just to weigh everyone in! I currently go to a group where 20wi and about half stay! Much more manageable! Just wish they were a friendlier group lol! Xx

I think thats why I didn't stay to group, as wasn't keen on the 'clappy' bit of it all & I didn't really gain any knowledge from my group. Im a very self motivated person, or stubborn as some would say, so I found it rather satisfying doing it on my own & achieving what I set out to do.
If anyone wants any tips from a 'homey' please give me a shout as Im always happy to help & use the site a lot & wont be leaving because Im at target....this is where the fun starts lol!
I've started a diary in the food diary section if anyone's interested on my maintainance 'journey'!

I must admit I do get good tips at group and I enjoy listening to others recipe ideas and finding out what they did to do so well.

... What really irritates me is when I've been good and not lost and someone sits there telling me how utterly crap they've been and they've lost. I find this counterproductive and think consultants need to sort this out! X

Okay, groups have a set start time which must be adhered to, 30 mins for weigh in and up to an hour for image therapy, depending on group size.

Each to their own but I love group, I love the sharing of ideas and the support and inspiration you get from the group.

Good luck on your own. I am one of those who need to be accountable to someone else.

I agree entirely. I have attended SW group in the past and, even though it worked well, I also had to sit for ages, before standing in a queue for ages, then clapping and clapping ....... At the beginning of April this year I decided to sign up for SW on-line, which cost £60. Unfortunately, two days after I had parted with the cash I discovered this amazing site so, needless to say, when my three months is up I won't be renewing my membership with SW. I am totally addicted to minimins and just love all the support, friendship and imaginative recipe ideas. Thanks everyone and good luck Jeanne.

That is totally how I felt about my original group and I stuck to plan so much more as a result.
Unfortunately not every group is like that as I've learnt. There isn't much support to be had from a 15sec announcement of your loss/gain/STS before moving onto the next one.
