Just seen another post about 'superfree' foods and having a meal without some of these in is wrong?? Any advice on this? Yesterday the only superfree foods i had was a bit of salad with lunch. Today I've had much more. Tomatoes and mushrooms with breakfast, salad with lunch. Followed by a big bowl of mixed fruit - melon, raspberries, apricot kiwi. Planning to have some roasted veg with lamb steaks tonight But do I NEED to eat a 'minimum' of superfree foods?? or as long as I'm sticking to the free foods on the list, should I still get a healthy weight loss?? Sorry to ask what may be a simple question but only started yesterday??

Obviously I know the health benefits of eating as many of the superfree foods as possible and have ready that they do help to speed up weight loss. But my question is more on the do I NEED to in case I have a day where they just don't crop up in my meals too much lol.

Thanks in advance - trying to get to grips with this!! x

If you look in your book, it states that you should have 1/3 of your plate SuperFree. This is a recommendation of Slimming World, and not manditory. Although as you have already pointed out, it will help speed up your weight loss as well as other benefits. So it really is worthwhile sticking to it when you can.

The 3rd superfree helps you feel full - you wont have a healthy weight loss if you only eat free foods, a big dish of pasta at breakfast lunch and dinner would not be following the sw plan

ok thank you for your help. So fruit with our cereal / yoghurt in the morning, salad with our jacket spud at lunch and veg with our chicken stir fry at night (example meals to get the 'gist') - that sort of thing???, tryin to include some fruit and / or veg (sf foods) with every mealtime?? Is that what they're expecting???

I can do that, it's just that wasn't explained to me at start up and the meeting I went to was just a weigh in (no stay for group) :( !! I am going to try and go to another group so I can gain the benfits of staying to a meeting. For this first week I'm relying on extra help from here as I've tried texting the consultant but she's quite rude :( so thank you very much :) xx

Actually, you would be following the plan. Pasta is free food and the book says you can eat as much free food as you like without restriction. I bet you'd get bored of it very quickly if you did though! What SW does (again from the book) is fill you up on foods which are low in energy density. That is to say they are very bulky and filling for the calorie content. Therefore you get much more full up but aren't intaking the energy, fats and sugars that you would if you kept scoffing sandwiches and trifles. Pasta may be high in calories but it is syn-free on EE because it is extremely filling and essentially fat-free.

As Princess_Stevie says, the third-superfree is not mandatory but it is highly recommended. Fruit and veg are filling, healthy, tasty, and cheap. SW is also about changing eating habits for life, and plates of food with no veg is a bad habit which needs to be got rid of (we were all guilty of it before starting, I bet!).

Melmac - it sounds like you're doing very well so far. The things that helped me most in the first week was spending a whole day reading the books and getting to grips with it, then keeping a meticulous food diary (with menus etc) on the LifelineOnline website. Keep scoffing as much as you like within the plan and within your own appetite, and in this hot weather be sure to keep hydrated. Stick to those 15 syns and watch the weight fall off! :)

That is pretty bad, may be worth getting in touch with head office about it. Staying to group is very motivating, and it would definitely be worth researching other local groups; your consultant should be bending over backwards to help guide you through the first weeks!

Thanks Happyhippo. I love the way you explained that. I have already lost 4.5 stone with SW's main competitor, but ready to mix things up and was hoping to get a bit more flexibility with SW - no weighing and counting. So want to make sure I'm putting my 'all' into it, rather than slipping back to my old plan as if i'm doing a half-hearted mixture of the 2, then that will probably make things worse. You explained the whole superfree foods really well though so appreciate that thank you.

I planned this week as soon as I got my books/starter pack and I'm on day 3 and writing down as you say. Keeping track of everything (one thing WW did teach me was tracking). Enjoying not having to weigh foods though and I have the SW app for my syn values so hopefully I will show a lovely loss next week. I have about 1.5stone more to go. A change is as good as a rest :)

Fingers crossed :) x

4.5st is fantastic, well done! You don't need any help from us then I wouldn't think, just keep up what you're doing :)

Another tip, a few weeks into the plan, start on the body magic awards, and the body magic walking challenges online. That really gets the old metabolism going. And saves on petrol!

Thanks again Happyhippo. Not sure what the bodymagic awards are - yet to read through that bit - i'll get on it lol. Just having a Curly wurly 6 syns and a sit down for 5 mins before it's all go with the kids school summer fair this afternoon!!! If Body magic is exercise stuff then I walk a lot anyway. Usually about 10 miles give or take a couple on a Saturday morning! so hopefully that'll give my first weigh in a boost :)
Had salmon veg and noodles in a stir fry last night. Used some lime and chilli to give it flavour and 'quark' to make a sauce - man that stuff is rank!!!! Think I'll stick to the extra low fat fromage frais or natural yoghurt in future lol x
My consultant advised me to start with 10 syns, but I can have between 5 and 15. Going to be nearer the 15 today. it's friday and I fancy a glass of something alcoholic tonight, but been able to stick to closer to the 10 most other days, even a couple under one day. Think I'll average at about 11 syns per day by the end of the weigh in week.
I may not need help on loosing weight, but i know if you don't stick to a plan properly then it won't work and I'm a total fish out of water when it comes to SW, but keen to experience it to the full and see which of the 2 diets I prefer as had got a bit stuck on a plateau with WW :/
Day 4 now and I'm doing ok I think. Wish I could have a halfway week weigh in check up lol but we'll see on Tuesday :) x

I eat loads of superfree foods and find it much more filling. I can't think of meal I can't add salad or veg on the side, which makes me feel better about eating the free pasta. I also snack on fruit all day lol..I work in a sweet shop serving donuts, candyfloss etc which is torture! Especially when I'm not busy, so a lunch box filled with grapes, strawberry and other things I can snack on helps with a mugshot for something warm, syn free and filling :) lost 5 and half pound last week so feeling good :) I read somewhere the more super free you have the quicker you lose so I try and have half of my plate instead of a third.
Good luck :)

Its of course a best to have plenty of super free foods but I've not been the past three weeks due to tummy issues and stuck to free food. That has also worked

Ultimately its best to get the filling fibre of fruit/veg along with free foods

But the plan works if followed! !
