Green Days Newbie Questions

Hi everyone,

I went to my first SW group last night, I'm so excited to start my slimming journey!

I think I made a mistake starting this week though - I'm going out on Thursday to a local American diner, and it's my Mum's 50th birthday party this weekend (which means a buffet and booze!)

Any tips on what I can do to limit the damage?

TIA x

I use my syns weekly so I would keep to no syns or very little syns the rest of the days and enjoy ur mams party just don't go too wild with the buffet lol and try not to make the worst decisions when going out for food...if you feel that you cant cut back on syns maybe just use a flexi syn day for ur mams party and keep within daily syns as normal but that cant guarantee you a loss :) xx

I think that's what I'm gonna do, it's my first day today and I'm keeping my syns to a minimum (my consultant told me to aim for 10, but could go under or over!) I'm just a bit worried about this night out on Thursday, I don't even know if they have veggie options! Hey well, a little bit of what you fancy does you good! Thanks for the advice :) xx

For the diner, I would either pop in or call them today and ask what's on the menu. You can then have a think ahead what's going to be the safest option without feeling under pressure on the night.

Enjoy :eat:

The diner might have a website with a menu. Lots of places do this now - makes it much easier to plan ahead.

I find buffets easier as you can choose exactly what you want and if you don't fancy anything it is easy to hide the fact that you aren't eating.

They don't have a menu, they're a new place! It was the first thing I checked :) I'm pretty much ok for the buffet, Mum always makes lots of carrot sticks and pepper slices so I can fill up on those! I'll syn the bread (she's not learnt about wholemeal yet..) and the spread for sandwiches, and use the cheese as a HExA (just need to remember not to eat too many!) Thanks for the advice :) x

Good plan, I think I might give them a ring tomorrow! I know they do lots of meat stuff like pulled pork sandwiches (and I'm presuming chips..) but hopefully I'll be able to make the right choices :) Thanks for the advice! x

Don't be afraid to change the menu to suit you, if pulled pork comes with chips but they do jackets or new pots or salad elsewhere, ask for it to be swapped. I do it all the time and I have never had a problem apart I from the fact my husband won't order for me as its too complicated and he doesn't want to get it wrong! Lol?

Haha, my H2B always gets my order wrong, so I've just started doing it myself to save the hassle! I'm pretty sure they do salad and stuff (the pulled pork isn't an option for me, I'm veggie! But people apparently rave about it..) I know they do nachos, which will take A LOT of willpower to avoid...
