    Confused already!

So, I have just returned from my local lidl to pick up a few store cupboard staples. Out of curiosity I entered the details of the baked beans and sweet corn I had purchased into the syns calculator . Now the sweet corn came up as 4 syns per serving on extra easy and the baked beans came in at 7 syns per serving- both I thought were free foods. Is this because I am using a cheaper brand? Should I stick to branded products ? I'm trying to keep this diet as low cost as I can.
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Amy

It's not the branding, food is often same in different packages, it often comes from same factory, for example kp crisps are identical to m&s crisps they just employ more pickers on the factory line to pull more odd looking crisps off line.

    Ok so:

    Campilargo baked beans

    Per 100g:

    77kcal
    4.5g protein
    11.6g carbs
    0.3g fat

I put all this info in the syns calculator on an EE day and it came up 7 syns for a 200g portion

May come from same factory but the amount of flavouring, fruit quantity etc is different to each company.

Compare the nut value to say a Heinz pack if there the same or less then surely they are free.
Sw are a corporate company they make alot of money from championing certain branded foods like muller. There's no reason why another label that equal or less in fat/cal etc can't be free to.

Are you using a syn calculator typing in the calories etc, or did you type the name of the food in?
If you are using syn calculator you need to incorporate a free food allowance - yes sweetcorn and baked beans are free (assuming the sweetcorn is not in sugary water and there's nothing bizarre about the baked beans!) If you don't tell the calculator you are including free food, it will just count it at 1 syn per 20calories.

Don't use the syn calculator. Sweet corn is free, faked beans are free, they are on the free food list!
Use the syns online part where you enter the brand but only use the calculator if ts not listed on there and then remember to enter the free food allowance.
There is no need to check syns on these foods.
