Any One had weight loss success with SW with Low Thyroid?

So next week will be my first class in SW. I've tried to do it alone at home but I'm just not getting it lol. I've over 3 stone to lose but suffer from Low Thyroid and weight loss takes forever, then I give up! But I've promised myself and my health no more giving up and to give it 100%.

Im looking for some motivation to kick start me... Is there any fellow thyroid sufferers who have successfully lost weight with SW? If so how much have you lost and how long has it taken you?

Ive been reading and reading Minimins for a few weeks now so hopefully it will all click into place for me soon when I start class. I'm such a plain eater so it makes it harder to get everything in each day. Any tips or tricks welcome. thanks :)

Hi Hun I'm restarting next week too. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid in November and have been a member of both SW and WW so often it's a standing joke in our house! I get the standard joke of 'why do you pay to get weighed? I'll weigh you for a fiver!' To be fair I did lose hf a stone at WW before crimbo but got sick of counting so it can be done! Good luck matey!

Hi Sal. Thanks for your reply. It makes it less daunting knowing there is others who are in the same boat. I'm the laughing stock in this house too lol. But, no more, by summer 2014 I WILL have shorts and a sleeveless top on, and I won't be hiding taking pictures. I will be in them. :)

keep in touch and let's spur each other on. X

Ok Hun no probs it'll be fun going to SW with a four year old in tow (that's why I left my previous group !) but it's only for 2 weeks til he goes back to nursery and it seems an ideal time to restart. Good luck Hun when's your class?

Tell me about it! I've a 1 year old screamer for class. :) class is not until the second week of January, but I'm clearing out the tempting food tomorrow and starting alone until then.

I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid over 20 years ago. Been on medication ever since. It may be harder to lose weight but it's not impossible. Exercise makes a significant difference for me but health problems make that very difficult. However, I have managed to lose almost a stone since November following the Extra Easy plan and am enjoying eating healthy food and not feeling hungry all the time. SW is doing the trick for me and I feel that at last I am re-educating myself to a new permanent healthy way to eat, rather than it being something temporary.

Hi LJ22, wow that is a fantastic weight loss in such a short time! Well done!
It's good to hear that you follow EE as I was concerned that maybe I should stick with red or green days. I hear you about the exercise, as much as I would have great intentions, most days I can barely sum up the energy to walk never mind exercise. :( I'm thinking of trying something like Zumba or dance to burn a few calories but not over do it too much. What exercise are you doing? Keep up the great work x

Hiya,

I have a low thyroid and take 100mg a day. I've found slimming world to work the best for me I lost 8 1/2 pounds the first week and consistently had between 1-3lb losses a week until I fell off the wagon a few months ago joining back in January now as I have I dun all the work at the very least and probably added some more too :(!

I read a news item a few months ago and read that bananas ain't all that great for thoses with thyroid and to avoid drinking coffee for upto an hour after taking meds. Can't really tell how much difference it's made to my weight loss doing this but is hasn't harmed me in any way so it's worth a try :)

Hi Apparently we aren't supposed to eat vegetables from the brassica family (ie cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli etc) 'cos they slow down thyroid function! Can't win can we ?Apparent cooking lessens the negative effects but we aren't supposed to eat these foods more than once every four days. No wonder the nurse said the worse thing you can do is google thyroid cos you get all sorts of random stuff like this! Anyway I figure that they,ve got to be better for you than the sausage rolls and crisps I've been stuffing down my neck this week lol!.Anyway good luck everyone we can do this!

hey!
i have an underactive thyroid and have done since i was 7, so ive always been chunky!
I joined slimming world in June 2012 and lost 2 and a half stone when i stuck to it. In my first week i lost 9pounds. I have, however managed to put that weight back on, purely from not following plan. Slimming World is an amazing diet, and i would suggest it to anyone! if you stick to plan you will lose, regardless of your thyroid. The only way my thyroid seems to affect me, is if I have a bad week, i will put alot more weight on than my boyfriend who has ate the same as me would. But then i will lose the weight faster than him too. I wish you loads of luck with your weight loss journey! it really will be worth it!!! x
